The Caritas Corner

We want to provide an update on our previous assistance to a family of seven including five children ages 5 to17 who were burned out of their modest home earlier in the year and had insufficient insurance to cover their belongings and reconstruction. In May, we contributed $2,000 to help ease the family’s burden, help replace their personal necessities and assist in the rebuilding effort. Efforts by us to secure them a larger mobile home failed and they were unable to purchase one either. Thus, the family is still living in a very small second-hand RV on the property. Our contribution helped them pour a new slab and the husband began framing the walls of a new home. Unfortunately, it is very difficult for them to earn enough money to pay the bills, rebuild their home and purchase clothing and school supplies for the kids.

In order to continue to ease their burden, the Caritas Fund has contributed an additional $2,000 to help the family with the cost of framing a roof on their small home and/or a gift card for much needed school clothes and supplies. On receipt of this additional donation the family was “extremely grateful and expressed their feelings of being so blessed with the caring and heartfelt generosity” of our parish. Fr. Victor personally presented the distribution and was very pleased with the efforts of our community.

This Caritas – or “Charity” -- Fund is administered by the San Francescani Society and funded through the second collection normally on the third Sunday of each month. Its purpose is to assist recipients – who through no fault of their own have fallen on hard times and have recog-nizable needs to help get back on their feet.

In addition to the once a month second collection, the Caritas Fund accepts individual as well as business donations. Donations can be mailed to: Henry Garcia, Treasurer, San Francescani Society, P.O. Box 782474, San Antonio, TX 78278-2474.

We are continually looking for additional brothers and sisters in need. Referrals can be made to Ron Bucchi, Society President, by leaving a message at the SFdP office at 210-227-0548.
