This weekend at the 11:00 Mass, one of our
parishioners, Mrs. Gloria Perez will be given the
Archbishop’s St. Francis Award for 2019. This
award has been granted to Gloria this year for the
MANY years of selfless service to the church and
very specifically to San Felipe.
In years past, the Archbishop himself
bestowed this award at the annual St. Francis feast
day celebration for the Archdiocese at the Cathedral
of St. Francis in Santa Fe. With the Chapter 11
proceedings happening, the Archbishop chose to for-
go that celebration and asked all the pastors to have a
special recognition of the recipients for this year.
We congratulate Gloria for her many years of
service and thank God for her and her witness to
service in this community. We further congratulate
all the previous recipients. You can find all their
names on the plaque in the entrance to The
Guadalupe Room (old sacristy). We pray God’s
continued blessings to all the previous awardees and
to Gloria this year.
Sincerely,
Rev. Andrew J. Pavlak, Pastor

Annual Roman Catholic Youth Conference
I would like recognize Alyssa Tapia, Sophia Escalante,
Victoria Sanchez, Andrea Loya, Sariah Montoya,
Anthony Sanchez, Antonio Sanchez, Jake Flores and
Nathaniel Smith for doing a very job at our recent
Roman Catholic Youth Conference. They’re intelligent
and well behaved young adults. The Confirmation
students who did not attend the Youth Conference will
have to attend a Confirmation retreat in the spring to
receive their Confirmation.
Quinceanera Family Retreat
The Office of Youth, Young Adults & Campus
Ministries of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe will host a
Quinceanera Family Retreat for youth and their
parents preparing for their Fifteen Year Celebration.
Attendance at a Quinceanera Retreat is required to
have a Quinceanera. It will take place on Saturday,
December 7th from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Catholic
Center. The cost is $35.00. The registration deadline is
Wednesday, November 27th. For more information
contact Della Montano at (505) 831-8142 or
From the desk of your pastor, Fr. Andy
As I mentioned at the Masses recently, we
have had some unexpected, (some planned), expenses
for our physical plant. First off, the boiler for the
furnace in the rectory, that is the offices and
residence for the priest, went out and to repair that
was approximately $4,000.00. To completely replace
that would be in excess of $15,000.00 and most
likely more for additional electric and cement and
other issues that were not previously planned.
Secondly, the sewer pipes at the San Jose Mission
Church in Duranes got clogged with roots from the
trees. Replacing those sewer pipes was also just
around $4,000.00. Thirdly, something we have been
working on diligently for the last months is the audio/
visual system for the main San Felipe Church. That
update including new television monitors for The
Guadalupe (overflow) Room, Gaspari (adoration)
Chapel and confessional, speaker for the back of the
main church, speaker for the front courtyard and all
the related issues was just over $22,000.00.
All these expenses are being covered by the
most generous donations of YOU, our parishioners.
Yes, anyone who owns any sort of property knows
that these sorts of things happen. Most often, they
happen when you least expect it to occur. I just
wanted to let you know of these AND SINCERELY
THANK YOU, for all of your continual donations to
the Building Fund that are able to address these as
they occur.
May God continue to bless you and your
families during this time of repairs to our holy,
historic and venerable church and always.
Sincerely,
Rev. Andrew J. Pavlak, Pastor

LIFE IS HARD, BUT HAVE NO FEAR Today’s readings take a fearless look at reality and
reach a conclusion that we all know: life is hard. The
prophet Malachi preaches fire and brimstone, warning us that evildoers will perish in flames. Saint
Paul offers his own warning to the Thessalonians:
keep busy, but never become a busybody. He reminds Christians that the apostles themselves
worked in “toil and drudgery” as a model for how we
ought to contribute to our community. The Gospel
returns to the apocalyptic tone of Malachi, describing
the utter chaos of the end-times. We will know the
end is near when violence, catastrophe, and hatred
dominate the earth. But we must not fear! God’s saving plan brings peace to our hearts. Malachi
speaks of the sun’s “healing rays,” and Jesus himself
promises to protect every hair on our heads.
