Mission Life
Native American’s life• The Natives had a busy
schedule/ life.• Their meals and wake up
times are at a strict hour.• Attended mass every single
day.• Mastered the Spanish
language.• Raised cattle for food, did
leather work, made adobe bricks, sewed, made candles, and made soap from tallow.
Missionary Life• A missionaries life is
usually filled with religious activities and helping the Natives.
• They did activities such as giving mass, baptizing the Natives, running the mission along with building it, made sure everyone has something to feast on, and made sure the mission had all the supplies it needed.
Mission Life TodayMission San Antonio de Padua was restored in 1948 through 1952.It is now used as a home ,to three people, and a museum. The mission holds masses for all visitors.People who visit this mission are aloud to touch most of the very old plants. This mission still has a olive tree that was grown in1830, and still produces olives. The valley grows wildflowers, poppies, lupines, and Golden Blazing Stars.
Take A Stand• The mission system started in 1769 to protect/claim California’s coast from
being invaded by Russian hunters, and to convert Native Americans to Christianity.
• Mission system was complicated because The Indians were forced to try new things and the Indians were not allowed to do things there way.
• The mission system was not helpful because the Indians had to give up their culture and learn the Spaniards way of life and when the mission system ended it caused them to forget Their survival skills and had a hard time keeping their families going.
• Mission system was unfair because they had to learn to wear new clothes, new dances, and new songs, and they never got to see their families.
