about me. My name is sam hopperstad. i am a graphic designer and visual artist. this portfolio includes samples of my work relating to logo design, print and web layout, and photography.

in today’s digital universe it has become easier than ever for people to communicate with one another. revolutions in how we think and relate to a changing world, cultural and scientific innovations, as well as expanded elements of international trade have all resulted from the evolution of communication. therefore, it is crucial that people convey their ideas through clean, concise, and modern design. i specialize in brand conceptualization, development, and sustainability.

Brand and logo design. Good branding is crucial in today’s visually oriented world. the boundaries of logo design are being pushed – the client demands a more original and international design. a brand no longer establishes equity in just one region, but the entire world.

this part of the portfolio contains brand identities and logo designs for a select group of clients.

approach the client wanted a “strong,

simple look” that strayed away from the “typical” law firm identity – the firm’s initials. the logo is built by six squares – positioned in a gradual manner with the highest square colored yellow. the design conceptualizes the gradual process towards finding a solution

approach “the K-project” requested

that a logo be created to act as a banner for its spring 2013 campaign. the type is distorted, colored orange, and stylized with a textural effect to pop-out to the viewer. Yet the logo is simple so its brand can quickly be recognized

Maintain Relationships with Family and Friends

Connecting, Following, Friending, Oh My!How do you leverage social media to benefit your business, while at the same time ensuring that employees’ use of social media at work does not become a source of “cyber-loafing”? Oh, and at the same time, you’ll want to make sure that your employees’ use of social media doesn’t increase your liability or risk to the business. The potential dangers can be overwhelming.

HR traditionally owns the issues involved in social media use – from privacy and confidentiality to ensuring appropriate behavior are used and that productivity and time management are monitored.

IT, risk management specialists, and marketing personnel can help HR to structure policies that will minimize risk to both the employer’s security and its reputation. At the same time, HR must help the employer leverage the use of social media for the organization’s benefit.

”“Policies to guide appropriate use of social media are typically HR’s responsibility to develop and enforce, but implementation and management of these policies and plans must be coordinated across the organizational

leadership team.

Social MediaNavigating Social Connections in the Workplace

OverviewThe landscape of social media has changed substantially over the last couple of years. New social networks are being created as fast as people can find new channels to interact with them. According to a 2013 report by The Nielson Company, The Mobile Consumer, A Global Snapshot, smartphones account for over 50% of mobile phones used in the U.S. The technology to wear devices, such as glasses, that allow instant access to the web and operate on voice commands will soon be available and priced within reach of consumers. Successfully navigating this landscape is something all employers must do. To accomplish this goal, you need digital connections to keep tabs on this ever-changing environment.

Are you on top of the latest blog, RSS, or newsfeed? Are you notified by your own social pages about how social media is becoming a flaming hot HR topic? You aren’t the only one. Most likely your employees are engaged in social networking. They value it and they also likely view social media activity as a part of their daily routine. It is both possible and neces-sary to achieve a comfort level with social networking in the workplace, as well as nurture what your employees value along the way.

Why pay attention? It’s impossible to ignore. Social media is pervasive in everyday life for millions of people in the U.S. and around the world. The most popular use for social media is keeping in touch with friends. In 2012, NM Incite, a Nielsen McKinsey Company, included 1,998 social-media-using adults in a “Social Media User” survey. They reported that respondents used a variety of online platforms, including “Internet forums, blogs, Facebook, Twitter, video sharing, consumer rating, and other social networking websites.”Amazingly, Nielsen’s 2012 State of the Media Report found that Americans spend more time on Facebook than on any other website. Social networking can be a powerful tool for personal connections and connections to brands. It can also blur the lines between personal and professional activity if you aren’t clear about how it fits into your company.

photographyphotography. the preservation of a moment in time and of color, light, and emotion. today, photography and graphic design go hand-in-hand and complement each other to convey an idea or an emotion. Editing software (like adobe photoshop) allow photographers and designers to add natural and artificial elements to an image. however, it is crucial, for both the photographer and the designer, to remember the key factors of great photography: composition, lighting, and subject.

this part of the portfolio contains photos i shot with my Nikon D3000 as well as images and graphics enhanced and created in photoshop.
