1. Precautions
1-1 Safety Precautions
1. Be sure that all of the built-in protectivedevices are replaced. Restore any missingprotective shields.
2. When reinstalling the chassis and itsassemblies, be sure to restore all protectivedevices, including: nonmetallic control knobsand compartment covers.
3. Make sure that there are no cabinet openingsthrough which peopleparticularlychildrenmight insert fingers and contactdangerous voltages. Such openings includethe spacing between the picture tube and thecabinet mask, excessively wide cabinetventilation slots, and improperly fitted back
covers.
If the measured resistance is less than 1.0megohm or greater than 5.2 megohms, anabnormality exists that must be corrected
before the unit is returned to the customer.
4. Leakage Current Hot Check (Figure 1-1):Warning: Do not use an isolationtransformer during this test. Use a leakage-current tester or a metering system thatcomplies with American National StandardsInstitute (ANIS C101.1, Leakage Current forAppliances), and Underwriters Laboratories(UL Publication UL1410, 59.7).

1-1 Safety Precautions (Continued)
9. High voltage is maintained within specifiedlimits by close-tolerance, safety-relatedcomponents and adjustments. If the highvoltage exceeds the specified limits, checkeach of the special components.
10. Design Alteration Warning:Never alter or add to the mechanical or
electrical design of this unit. Example: Do notadd auxiliary audio or video connectors. Suchalterations might create a safety hazard. Also, any design changes or additions will void themanufacturers warranty.
11. Hot Chassis Warning:Some TV receiver chassis are electricallyconnected directly to one conductor of the AC
power cord. If an isolation transformer is notused, these units may be safely serviced onlyif the AC power plug is inserted so that thechassis is connected to the ground side of theAC source.
To confirm that the AC power plug is insertedcorrectly, do the following: Using an ACvoltmeter, measure the voltage between thechassis and a known earth ground. If thereading is greater than 1.0V, remove the ACpower plug, reverse its polarity and reinsert.Re-measure the voltage between the chassisand ground.
12. Some TV chassis are designed to operate with85 volts AC between chassis and ground,
regardless of the AC plug polarity. These unitscan be safely serviced only if an isolationtransformer inserted between the receiver andthe power source.
13. Some TV chassis have a secondary groundsystem in addition to the main chassis ground.
15. Observe the original lenear the following aresharp edges, and espevoltage power suppliepinched, out-of-place,not change the spacinand the printed circuipower cord for damag

1-2 Servicing Precautions
1. Servicing precautions are printed on thecabinet. Follow them.
2. Always unplug the units AC power cord fromthe AC power source before attempting to: (a)Remove or reinstall any component orassembly, (b) Disconnect an electrical plug orconnector, (c) Connect a test component inparallel with an electrolytic capacitor.
3. Some components are raised above the printedcircuit board for safety. An insulation tube ortape is sometimes used. The internal wiring issometimes clamped to prevent contact withthermally hot components. Reinstall all suchelements to their original position.
4. After servicing, always check that the screws, components and wiring have been correctly
reinstalled. Make sure that the portion aroundthe serviced part has not been damaged.
5. Check the insulation bAC plug and accessibl
(examples: metal panearphone jacks).
6. Insulation Checking Ppower cord from the Apower switch ON. Coresistance meter (500Vplug.

1-3 Precautions for Electrostatically Sensitive Devices (ESDs)
1. Some semiconductor (solid state) devicesare easily damaged by static electricity. Suchcomponents are called ElectrostaticallySensitive Devices (ESDs); examples includeintegrated circuits and some field-effecttransistors. The following techniques willreduce the occurrence of component damage
caused by static electricity.
2. Immediately before handling any semiconductor components or assemblies, drain theelectrostatic charge from your body bytouching a known earth ground. Alternatively, wear a discharging wrist-strap device. (Besure to remove it prior to applying powerthis is an electric shock precaution.)
3. After removing an ESD-equipped assembly, place it on a conductive surface such asaluminum foil to prevent accumulation ofelectrostatic charge.
4. Do not use freon-propelled chemicals. Thesecan generate electrical charges that damage
ESDs.
5. Use only a grounded-soldering or unsolderi
6. Use only an anti-staticMany solder removal anti-static; these caelectrical charge to da

Alignment and Adjustments
3-3-2 Automatic Degaussing
A degaussing coil is mounted around thepicture tube, so external degaussing aftermoving the TV should be unnecessary. However, the receiver must be properlydegaussed upon installation.
The degaussing coil operates for about 1second after the power is switched ON. If the
set has been moved or turned in a differentdirection, disconnect its AC power for at least10 Minutes.
If the chassis or parts of the cabinet becomemagnetized, poor color purity will result. Ifthis happens, use an external degaussing coil.Slowly move the degaussing coil around thefaceplate of the picture tube and the sides andfront of the receiver. Slowly withdraw the coilto a distance of about 6 feet before removingpower.
3-3-3 High Voltage Check
CAUTION : There is no high voltageadjustment on this chassis. The B+ power
supply must be set to either +135V or +125V(for 20 screen). Conditions : Full color barinput and normal picture level.
1. Connect a digital voltmeter to the secondanode of the picture tube.
2. Turn on the TV. Set the Brightness andContrast controls to minimum (zero beamcurrent).
3. The high voltage must not exceed 29.5KV.
4. Adjust the Brightness and Contrast controls toboth extremes Ensure that the high voltage

For the power system of K51A chassis, alloutput voltages remain the same duringstand-by. So, to reduce power consumption, itis necessary to cut the leakage current flowingthrough FBT B+ (130V) and tuner port VT (33V)
during stand-by (Picture OFF).
The power consumption reduction circuit cutsleakage current. A P-channel MOSFET is usedas a switching element. The operating principles are as follows:
1. In stand-by, the voltage of the power controlport (micom IC) becomes low (0V). Duringpower ON, however, it becomes high (over4V).
2. The voltage between S-G (Q801 P-channelMOSFET) should be over 3.5V, so that the S-Dcurrent (Q801) can keep flowing.
3. When the voltage of the power control portbecomes low, the current flowing throughQ ( )
