    INTRODUCTION

    Considering the escalating costs to upgrade the state-of-the-art R&D

    activities, the Institute has laid strong emphasis towards generation of

    resources and active collaboration with national / international industries

    and R&D organizations. Indian Institute of echnolog! recognizes the

    s!nerg! of education with "ponsored Research #"R$ and Industrial

    Consultanc! #IC$.

    "ponsored Research & Industrial Consultanc! #"RIC$, a special R&D Cell,

    was set up in %'( as an interface between funding agencies and the

    Institute to handle sponsored research pro)ects and industrial consultanc!

    assignments. he primar! reason for commencing a pro)ect is to fulfil some

    specific goals. *ro)ect +dministration assists in realising those goals. o

    maimize returns in the current cut throat competitive environment, it is

    vital to manage the pro)ects effectivel!. *ro)ect management is vital for the

    success of a pro)ect. ithout proper pro)ect administration, there arechances that the teams ma! pursue the wrong goals, activities ma! prolong,

    actual ependiture ma! eceed budget, and resources ma! be under

    allocated or over allocated.

    OBJECTIVES

    he ob)ectives of the pro)ect can be summarized as follows

    i. he first ob)ective is to access the Indian academic sector, its current

    status & structure, its appellate authorit!, its mission and vision, service

    offerings, research & development wors, etc.

    ii. he second ob)ective is to find out the socio-economic impact of

    investment in R&D funds and the effect of such sponsored research.

    iii. he third ob)ective is to find out different financing strategies and

    financial wa!s to finance a sponsored and consultanc! pro)ect in the

    academic sector.

    iv.he fourth ob)ective is to establish the relation between the pro)ects

    undertaen and its effect on the commercial scenario.

    v. he fifth ob)ective is to tae the case of II 0haragpur, to access its

    current structure, service offerings, current growth in terms of research

    potentials, service epansions, and social commitment.

    vi. he sith ob)ective is to see the picture of pro)ect management and

    administration being in current academic sector through case stud! of a

    pro)ect.

    management in the countr! to meet global challenges to our societ! and

    industr!. he stud! probes into the pioneer institute4s policies to promote

    sponsored research and collaborative pro)ects with industries R & D

    organizations and academic institutions in India and abroad so as provide

    intellectuall! stimulating environment for development of human potential

    with emphasis on self-reliance and service to the nation.

    RESEARCH METHODOLOGIES

    o fulfill the ob)ective of the pro)ect, different research methodologies

    have been used to come on the conclusions. 6ainl! descriptive stud! has

    been made to eep the research simple and narrative. 6ainl! secondar!

    data which have been collected from different websites, research papers,

    interactions and boos, have been used for anal!sis purpose. Institute

    details available in public domains have been compared and papers

    available on websites various academic institutes have been looed up.

    4n the basis of above stated methodologies and the mentioned

    objectives, I will draw a project and then come to a conclusion followed

    by suggestions and recommendations5
