AUTHOR NOTES
Respected Readers, thanks for buying my book in this
vast colosseum of books. This book, I want to dedicate
to my mother and father as well as my grandparents.
This wouldn‟t have been possible without the stern
support of my teachers and all my dear friends whose
unflinching motivation always propelled my spirit to
greater heights and inspired me to end this book with
ease, so thanks to them. My special reverence goes to
EDUCREATION publishing company, who helped me
to bring forth my work in the vast arena of creativity and
had been a herculean support behind my efforts. I would
like to appreciate their work and support they are
providing to young emerging writers.
Readers, always remember that the nation always
comes first, don‟t do anything that can hurt the sentiment
of people of India. India is known for her unity in
diversity and solidarity. Our culture demonstrates the
theme – “Live and let live”, so we all should follow the
same. We the Indians have a secular outlook, and I
believe that the number of people responsible for
creating divisions and contradictions is lesser than we
think.
Finally, I will say that if DREAMS are yours, so all
the pain and difficulties inflicting from it must be faced
by you only. Don‟t depend on other illusive factors like
LUCK. People are there to distract you, so don‟t listen to
them and focus on your dreams to achieve them. The
people of our society are such imposters who never put
faith on our dreams initially rather cause the hindrances
but will grab the credit and want to be a part of our
celebration after the achievement over the same goal. So,

It was 6 o‟ clock in the morning, when my mother
entered in the room. Pulling me, she said, “Wake up,
Aahil! It‟s already 7 o‟clock and you should remember
that today is 10
April”. I suddenly woke up and
exclaimed in surprise, “Ammi! Is it really 10th of
April”.
My mother put her hand on my head and said, “Don‟t
worry Aahil, everything will be fine, believe in Allah”. I
simply smiled and said, “Amen!”. I got up from my bed
and went to washroom. I took bath and was getting
ready. While dressing, I opened my window. I saw
something different in nature, like it was saying, “Today
is the turning point of your life. Today, you will meet
someone”. I ignored all those disturbing thoughts in my
mind and went for the prayer. I prayed to Allah, “Today
is the reopening of my school and reopening of my life
also. Please Allah, give your blessings and show me the
right direction”. My mother called me for the breakfast. I
replied, “Coming ammi”, getting down for the breakfast.
I saw my father and brother ready on the table. They saw

me and asked few questions. They asked me “Are you
alright? Do you want to go to school?” The question
puzzled me, but I replied, “Yes Abbu, I am alright and
willing to go to school”. But the truth was I was not fine
and was unwilling to go to school but due to the fear of
my father‟s slap, I had to lie”.
My mother said, “Sit down Aahil, the breakfast is
coming”. She brought the breakfast. I had it but not fully
as my heart was weeping inside, and in my mind, the
storm was raging hard. After the breakfast, my brother
asked me, “Do you want to come with us?” I simply
replied, “No bhaiya, I want to go alone”. When I toward
the main gate of my school, I saw on the board written
“ST. JOHN‟S SCHOOL, Welcome!” But I didn‟t want
to be welcomed rather wanted to run away. Suddenly,
the security guard of my school called me, “Aahil, come
in, the school gate is going to be closed”. I went in but
didn‟t go for prayer. I directly went to the office and
asked which section I have got. They said class VIII „B‟.
I went into the class and chose the last bench. I kept my
bag and sat down. I put my head on the desk and went
off to sleep.
After the prayer, other children came into the class.
I heard their footsteps but didn‟t wake up. Then, I heard
something which forced me to wake up. They were
telling to each other, “This is Aahil who failed in class
VIII, and this is his 2nd year in this class for him”. I kept
my head up, opened my eyes and saw 10–15 children
had surrounded me, who were talking all this. Suddenly,
a girl came. I think she was the monitor of the class. She
shouted, “All of you go back to your own seats” and
asked me, “Aren‟t you feeling well?” I didn‟t reply
anything as if I was in different world. I saw her for the
first time. As the teacher entered the class, she went
away. All the boys stood up and wished our class teacher
“good morning miss”. When the teacher was taking

attendance, I was noticing carefully when her turn
comes. Suddenly, she responded, “Present miss!”. I
came to know her name was Aahilya. After the
attendance, our class teacher called me and explained,
“Aahil, you will not do any mistake this year and you
will study hard … etc. etc.” Then, she gave me the place
in the 2nd bench, beside the 2 boys whose names were
Gourab and Kamran. I don‟t know why suddenly
Gourab started shouting and beating the boy, Rahul, who
was a small tiny boy. By the tiffin bell, the fellow named
Gourab got fully mad and started shouting loudly in the
class. At this, I lost my control. I got up, caught him by
his collar and was about to beat him. But the moment,
Aahilya came in front of me, I again went to another
world. I left his collar. Gourab pasted 2–3 punches on
my face; but still I was in different world. Suddenly, a
boy came and started beating Gourab. After their fight,
he came to me and asked, “Are you alright, Aahil”. I
simply replied, “Yes brother!” and asked his name. He
answered, “Veer”. We were now best friend. Next
period, I asked the teacher to change my place. Teacher
changed my place, and luckily I got place beside my 2
best friends – Veer and Ayan.
After the school got over, we came down in line. I
quietly went out of the school. I saw one man came on
bike. Aahilya sat on his bike behind him and went out of
the sight. I asked Veer about that man. He said, “That
man is Aahilya‟s father”. Suddenly, I saw Gourab. I
remembered what he did to me. I had pain that made me
angrier. I asked Veer to hold my bag. I went straight to
Gourab and said, “Now, beat me”. Even he threw his
bag, and as soon as he caught my collar, I had already
honored him with 5–6 punches. His nose started
bleeding. All the children of my class as well as section
„A‟ beheld this. Now, they all got afraid of me. Since the
first day only, I became the king of my class, but our

principal addressed with an awful look at me and said,
“Again started, Aahil!” I replied, “Sorry father”.
As soon as I reached home, my mother asked me,
“How was the first day of your school?”. I just smiled
and answered, “It was good, ammi”. I went upstairs in
my room, changed my dress and came down for the
lunch. Then, I went to sleep. In the evening at 6 o‟clock,
I and Ayan went to gole bazaar for some work. On
returning from gole bazaar, I saw Aahilya and Tanu.
Aahilya came to us and asked, “Hey Aahil, what are you
doing here?” Ayan replied, “We are here to buy chart
paper and copy”. Tanu said that they are going to have
pani puri, and offered to join them. I answered, “Why
not?”. The 4 of us went to have pani puri. It was the first
time, I talked to Aahilya. She asked me my full name. I
said, “Aahil Khan”, and then, I asked for the same, and
she replied, “Aahilya Singh”. After sometime, Aahilya
and Tanu left. I and Ayan also came home. The next
day, I got up early in the morning at 7 o‟clock. I went to
school, but not inside the school, one of my friends,
Dany, came on bike. I sat on his bike and went away.
Even Dany was the student of St. John school but
from class VIII A. That day, he didn‟t go to school. He
came to pick me up for cricket match which was held out
of town. The next day, when I went to school, the class
teacher called me and asked, “Where did you go
yesterday …?”. The teacher gave me the last warning
and told me, “If you do it again, then your parents will
be surely called”. Silently, I came and slept on my
bench. Veer told, “It was Aahilya who informed Miss
about you”. I got surprised how it can be possible. Then,
as soon as I sat on Dany‟s bike, Aahilya reached school.
She saw me, and I saw her angrily. In the next period,
our biology teacher Miss Sangeeta came, announced
about the surprise test and instructed everyone to take
out paper and get ready. I didn‟t have any page. I asked

my friend but even they had not any loose sheet.
Suddenly, Tanu came and gave a page and said,
“Aahilya has given you”. The test got over. Then, the
teacher announced that the boy and girl will exchange
their copy with each other. Luckily, my copy went to
Aahilya. After the correction was over, our teacher told
that those who got below 8 out of 20 must stand up and
go outside. I got up with my test paper in my hand. I
didn‟t see the marks because I knew that I would get 0 or
1, so I was ready to go outside but suddenly Aahilya
told, “Aahil, see your paper, you‟ve got 10”. I was
extremely shocked and looked at the paper. It was really
10, but it was Aahilya who has written my answer while
correcting the test paper, and in the last page, it was
written – “SORRY AAHIL”. As soon as our teacher
went out of the class, I tore the paper and threw it into
the dustbin. The next day, we came from prayer; the
class teacher entered and took our attendance. After that,
Aahilya went to the teacher and told, “Miss, I don‟t want
to be the monitor of the class”. The class teacher asked
for the reason but she didn‟t tell anything. Then, our new
monitor was Tanu. In games period, we went down and
started playing cricket. The team was decided in the
class only. There was a rule in St. John school that the
team should be decided in the class only as the game
period is of only 45 minutes, and hardly we get 30
minutes to play. So to save our time, we made this rule
among ourselves. In my team, the players were I, Veer,
Karan and Raj; and in opponent team, there was Ayan,
Anu, Bittu, Kamran, Gourab and Vinay. We had 4
members only, because we were better players. The
match started. They won the toss and chose to bat first.
They scored 40 runs in 4 overs. When our turn came, I
and Veer went to bat first. We scored 35 runs in 3 overs
only. We needed 6 more runs to win, and in strike, it was
me. I hit the ball. It went back side of the church flying

where girls were playing. It hit Aahilya. When Anu went
back to bring the ball, Aahilya threw the ball outside the
campus. Anu told her that the ball was hit by Aahil.
When I went there to know the situation from Anu that
Aahilya has thrown the ball outside the school, my anger
burst up. I shouted at Aahilya that why she had thrown
the ball, but she didn‟t reply and looked at me with
surprise. I stopped when I saw her eyes full of tears and
immediately went away from there. The bell rang and
the school was over. I went to apologize to Aahilya but
her father had already come and she departed with her
father. I went home. I was upset. My mother asked me
for lunch, I replied, “No, ammi! I don‟t want to eat”. My
mother felt weird but didn‟t force me to eat. I straight
went up to my room and changed my dresses. Then, I
went off to sleep. In the evening, I used to go to play, but
today I didn‟t. I just sat on the ground; my friends were
shouting “Aahil, want to play!” I just shook my hand
“No!”. Ayan and Dany came and asked me, “Why Aahil,
you don‟t want to play!” Once again, I simply said, “No,
my mood is off”. I went for the tuition reluctantly due to
the fear of father‟s slap. I was unable to concentrate on
my studies. I was just thinking about Aahilya‟s tearful
eyes. I was regretful. I spent sleepless night just waiting
for the morning to go to school and say sorry to Aahilya.
But at 4 o‟clock, I fell asleep and was woken at 6:30 am
by my mother, but I didn‟t wake up. At last, at 7:20 I
woke up hurriedly and got ready. I skipped my
breakfast, took the keys of my father‟s bike and went for
school. In the background, I heard my father shouting,
“Aahil stop … stop Aahil!”. I just ignored. Though I
knew what will happen after returning home, but I was
least bothered about that. The moment I reached school,
the gatekeeper Mr. Venkat was shocked to see me in
such a horrible condition, where my tie was loosely
hanging, upper 2 buttons of my shirt were not closed, the
