INTRODUCTIONINTRODUCTIONProject Title:
Lake Lanao: Our Past, Our Present, Our Future
Problem Statement:
Previous monitoring of Lake Lanao undertaken by the MSU-College of Fisheries on fish volume estimates showed that less than 5% of fishery yield is caught from the lake while 95% comes from the nearby cities such as Pagadian, Cagayan de Oro and Iligan. The fish catch decline was mainly due to human activities
Community Needs:
Livelihood, Sustainability of fish catch and Youth Activism
Objectives: 1. To stock Lake Lanao with 30, 000 hatchery-produced tilapia and cap fibgerlins2. To undertake Information-Education-Communication(IEC) campaign on the conservation
and management of the Lake’s Fisheries resources through the use of the tri-media
Solution Statement:
Fish Stock EnhancementIEC Campaign with youth leaders
Outputs: Youth leaders of Lanao getting involved in environmental awareness, specifically on the field of fisheries and volunteering for fish stock enhancement for 3 months
Outcomes: Heightened awareness on Lake Lanao; increase of fish reproduction to stabilize the ecosystem

HOW DO YOU ENSURE SUSTAINABILITY?Exotic fish introduction and wanton lake exploitation are the main
causes of fish decline. The scenario greatly affects the meranao fisgherfolks, the native dwellers around the lake and the nearby localities. Fish stock enhancement is a sustainable activity because fish reproduce a minimum of 30,000 eggs and the proponent will be able to collaborate with the MSU-College of Fisheries to monitor the lake due to the very close distance of the institute and the residence of the proponent.
The Lanao Youth through batang Transformers on the other hand is an organization of leaders of different schools all over Lanao who are capable of recruiting new members every year. Since one of the objectives of LYBT is to promote environmental aweness, there is a possible chance of sustainability on youth empowerment and environmental awareness at the same time.
