Pope and Patriarch Call For Defense of the Unborn Pope Francis and Rus-sian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia met in Havana, Cuba on Friday, Febru-

ary 12, 2016, and signed an historic joint declaration. In that dec-laration they stated the

following about the un-born: "We call on all to respect the inalienable right to life. Millions are denied the very right to be born into the world. The blood of the unborn cries out to God (cf. Gen 4:10). (n. 21)”

“Whoever is in Christ is a new creation: the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come. And all this is from God, who has recon-ciled us to himself through Christ and given us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, God was rec-onciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting their tres-passes against them and entrusting to us the message of recon-ciliation.” We look at a broken, suffering world, blanket-ed with poverty, war, hate and division. We

may question, is there any way such hardship and division can change? As Paul wrote the Corin-thians, we can find a so-lution, if we recognize that Christ came to rec-oncile us to the Father and to one another. But Paul also adds that we have been given the great responsibility to be ministers of reconcilia-tion. That ministry is ours, all who are united to Christ. What is hold-ing me back from work-ing to ease tension, eradicate hate, and bring the peace of Christ to others? That was in-cluded in the beautiful prayer of St. Oscar Romero, reminding us that we are to be Christ’s ministers, am-bassadors of reconcilia-tion, prophets of a future that is not our own.

First Reading: Joshua 5:9a, 10-12 Joshua and the Israelites celebrated Passover in Jericho. This was the first time they had eaten the produce of the promised land. After this, there was no more bread sent from heaven because they were able to eat the yield of the land. Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 Paul tells us that anyone living in Je-sus is a new creation because God has reconciled with us through Christ. As an ambassador for Jesus, Paul implores that the Corinthians be rec-onciled to God through Jesus. Gospel: Luke 15:1-3, 11-32 The Pharisees grew disgusted with Jesus because of his compassion to-ward sinners. So Jesus told them a story of a son who squandered his in-heritance. When a famine broke out, he returned home and asked his fa-ther to become a hired hand. His fa-ther instead welcomed him with a joy-ful celebration, just as God is over-joyed when a sinner returns to him.

“Pivotal Players” Bishop Barron

WEDNESDAY 7PM in the Parish Center

Join us as we continue to hear from Bishop Barron about the next two “Pivotal Players”: those saints, artists, mystics, and scholars who not only shaped the life of the Church but changed the course of western civilization. This new program will feature St. Augustine, the Teacher, and St. Benedict, the Monk.

St. Augustine is arguably the best example of how faith in Christ can change a person. And without St. Benedict, the Christian culture of the west might have perished after the fall of the Roman Empire. So, please register for this study program and walk with Bishop Barron as he traces the lives and contributions of these two pivotal saints. For more information, please con-tact Manny Fernandes at [email protected] or stop by the parish office.
