ADORATION OF THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT When He returned, He found them

asleep. He said to Peter, "Simon, are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one

hour?" Mark 14:37

Come and spend the most peaceful hour (or part of an hour) of your week with Jesus. Each Friday after the 9 AM Mass the Blessed Sacrament is exposed upon the altar (Lower Church). The recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will take place at 3:00pm, followed by reposition. Please join us. We are committed to having at least two persons present at all times of Adoration. There is a sign-in book in the Gathering Room near the entrance to the Mary Chapel. If you can commit just one hour or more, please call Ursula Koslowski at 781-729-6170 or email [email protected]

Mission Statement St. Mary’s Catholic Community

strives to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ, “love one another.” Jesus is the heart of our community and Sunday Liturgy is the center of our worship. With Mary as our patroness and model, we open our hearts and community to all. As we journey in faith, we grow through our sacramental life, Christian education, and opportunities for spiritual enrichment. Our vision is expressed in a commitment to peace and justice, respect for all life, appreciation for the unique gifts of every person, and outreach to those in need. Our parish family affirms all members in their search for truth as they meet the challenge of being Catholics in this modern world.

Notes from the pastor

The election of 2016 has shown us how very divided we are as a nation. Some journalists compare the present time to how divided we were in the early 1970s over the war in Viet Nam. Others have said that we are as divided as the country was just prior to the Civil War. As Christians, we are called to be people of love and faith. We are called to participate in the national political discussion. We are called to be informed about issues of justice. Let’s pray for and work for an end to this division. And never forget, writing to and telephoning our representatives in Congress is a powerful way to participate in this discussion. I encourage you to let our representatives know how you feel about issues of policy and social justice.

Today, Sunday January 29, we celebrate and thank the many members of our parish who volunteer their time in one of our fifty ministries. This includes visiting the sick, assisting in our liturgies, teaching our children, making the baptismal robes for our newly baptized, singing in the choir, sending cards to those who have recently lost a loved one, assisting Sal in the youth ministry, and so on and so on!!! Our parish is so vibrant because of the hands of so many helping out!

One of our long time volunteers, Charlie Kelly who was an usher at the 11:30 Mass was buried last Thursday. Charlie loved our parish and always had a well thought out comment for me at the end of Mass about my homily! Often he would back up what he said with a quote from the philosopher, William James. Charlie was here every Sunday for scores of years. Requiescat In Pace.

Next Friday at the 0900 Mass and at all weekend Masses we will celebrate the Feast of St. Blase and the blessing of throats will be available.

We will also be celebrating Catholic Schools Week (January 29—February 3) at the 9am Mass on Friday. February 3rd..

SAINT BLAISE FEAST DAY—FEBRUARY 3

This bishop and martyr lived in the fourth century in Turkey and Armenia. For a time, Blaise lived in a cave to escape persecution. On his feast day, the Church celebrates the blessing of the throats, recalling a miraculous cure associated with him: Blaise is remembered for saving the life of a boy who was choking on a fish bone. He was later arrested and imprisoned for being a Christian; in gratitude for a woman who brought him a candle to light his prison cell, the saint said that anyone who lit a candle in his memory would be free of infection. Thus, (unlit) candles are used in the traditional throat blessing in his honor. Blaise is listed among the “Fourteen Holy Helpers,” saints revered as healers.

In honor of the feast of Saint Blaise, blessing of the throats will take place on Friday, February 3 and at all Masses on the weekend.

As we gather at God’s invitation, we continue our Ordinary Time reflections on discipleship today with Jesus’ teaching of the Beatitudes. How blessed we are to know that God loves even the least of us and wants all of us to live by the law of love. May our prayer today be for the grace to live the Beatitudes as Christ desires that we do.
