Birthright of Keokuk, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization serving the tri-state area since 1976. Since that time, hundreds of mothers have been helped. Their mission is to provide nonjudgmental, loving, and practical encouragement and support to women who are facing a crisis pregnancy, for whatever reason. Birthright is not involved in any way in politics or in political campaigns. They listen, guide, and try to help in a caring way. In addition, they provide free pregnancy testing and distribute layettes for new mothers and their babies. Birthright is staffed completely by volunteers and receive no outside resources, depending solely on the generous donations of the people in this area. St. Mary’s second collection for Birthright will be the weekend of September 23rd & 24th or you may mail your donation directly to their office at 22 North 5th Street in Keokuk. Donations can also be made in the name of a loved one and Birthright will send a gift acknowledgement to that person. The campaign will run until October 1st.

EMERGENCY COLLECTION FOR THOSE IMPACTED BY HURRICANE IRMA: In light of the devastating news of

Hurricane Irma, The President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has invited his brother bishops to take up an emergency collection on behalf of those devastated in parts of the southeastern United States and the Caribbean. We will be taking up a special collection September 30th and October 1st. Challenging Young Catholics to Love Christ and Embrace the Life of the Church

The National Evangelization Team (NET) will be doing a retreat for our Holy Trinity Catholic School Junior High students on Friday, October 6th. This day long retreat allows our 6 - 8th grade students to experience their faith through prayer, skits and personal witness from college age adults. I believe this opportunity to get out of the classroom and share a day with youth from around the world is a valuable experience that they will never forget. The NET team is comprised of young Catholic Evangelist' that are on fire for the Lord. They travel in a group of 6 men and 6 women for the school year spreading and defending the Word of Jesus across the United States. Their year is spent giving back to the church that has given them so much by coming to our school to help in faith formation in our area. The retreat will be held at McAleer Hall in Ft. Madison during the school hours. If you would like to host two NET youth for Friday night or help with food or ice cream for the day, please call Mike at 316-2115. ~Mike Linnenbrink

Strong Catholic Families Update: You are invited on a Hayride, Saturday, October 14th immediately after 5:30pm Mass. Hayracks will be taken to Maureen Keilers farm where we will have a Wienie Roast, hot cider and hot cocoa. There is no cost to attend but we do request you bring a donation of a Hat, gloves or

mittens for those in need in our area. Children who are not accompanied by their parents will need to complete a permission form that can be found in the breezeway at the back of church.

We would like to thank all the kids and parents who joined us for the scavenger hunt

last Friday. Also, thank you to all of the generous donors who donated items for the

food pantry when our teams came knocking on the door! The kids had a wonderful time,

helped those in need in our community and learned a little about the seven sacraments!
