Priest Meetings/Vacations

Friday will be observed as a holiday for the priests of the St. John Paul II Area Faith Community. Since they are working a substantial part of the day on Christmas, this day off gives them an opportunity to gather with their family and friends on this joyous feast.

2015 HOLY TRINITY RAFFLE CALENDARS: We are currently selling calendars for 2015, there are more than 300 chances to win and the cost of the calendar is only $20. Calendars will be sold in the back of church all the weekends in December and the first weekend in January. There are also available from all three parish offices and Keaveny Drug in Winsted. If you have questions, please call Margie Heimerl at 320-238-0181.

FAMILY FUN FEST: There will be a Family Fun Fest meeting on Monday, January 5, 2015 in the school cafeteria, starting 7:00 p.m. Booster Club #2 will be in charge of this event, so please plan on attending. Questions, please contact Elaine Kahle at 320-485-5625.

THE HOLY TRINITY CHOIR will begin singing at 11:30pm on Christmas Eve, ½ hour before Midnight Mass. Come and enjoy the songs of the season.

NEW ENTRY UPDATE: As you can see the project is moving towards completion. We are waiting for the delivery of our elevator, and finishing work continues. Some questions have been raised about the ramp’s future and about handicapped parking after the new entry is completed. Our liability insurance company has asked us to remove the ramp after the new entry is in use. They believe that while the ramp served us well, that it is not within the building code with the new addition, and that especially in winter it is not particularly safe to use. We will work with the City of Winsted in creating new handicapped parking zones close to the new entry.

DIOCESAN MINISTRY APPEAL PROGRESS: We thank all of you who have made a commitment to the Diocesan Ministries Appeal. As of this week 97 families or individuals have committed $26,094.00 of our $23,314.72 goal. Having surpassed our goal, every dollar donated now comes back to our parish to support the completion of our new entry.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION There will be no Religious Education Classes on Wednesday, December 24, December 31 or January 7. Regular Religious Education classes will resume on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. Parent/Catechist Conferences will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 for parents with students in grades 3, 4, 6, 8, and 10 from 6:30-8:00pm in the Elementary School. We invite and encourage parents to take this opportunity to speak to Catechists about the progress of your child(ren). Sign-up sheets are available in the back of church until December 28, 2014. If you have students in Grades 1, 2, 5, 7, 9 and 11 alternate arrangements to provide progress or speak to your child’s Catechist will be made. Please contact Lori Penas at 320-485-5633 if you have questions. DECORATING THE CHURCH FOR CHRISTMAS SUNDAY AFTERNOON: Today at 3:00 p.m. we will be decorating the church for Christmas. We can use many hands to accomplish our task. Due to our Communal celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation today at 2:00 p.m., we will begin decorating at 3:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity for Confirmation candidates to get service hours, and we also appreciate our junior and senior high school volunteers coming to help. We hope to see you all there.

THANK YOU: We thank Denise Johnson and Rite Way for their donation of the memorial plaque on the statue of the Blessed Mother on the pro-life monument in front of church.

SERVER PRACTICE ON WEDNESDAY MORNING: Servers for the 4:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass will have a practice at 8:00 a.m. on Christmas Eve. It is important that you are present.

GOOD NEWS FROM THE DIOCESAN MINISTRIES APPEAL: We thank all of you who have made a commitment to the Diocesan Ministries Appeal. As of this week 117 families or individuals have committed $23,932.00 surpassing our quota of $13,699.34 and beginning to build funds for needed repairs to the retaining wall and rectory. If you would still like to make a commitment to the DMA and contribute to needed repairs in the rectory and to the parking lot retaining wall, there is still time. Get a DMA commitment envelope in the kiosk in the gathering area. Complete it and drop it at the parish office or mail it in yourself. Together we can accomplish the tasks before us.

THE RE CONNECTION: ‘Twas the night before Christmas in the ‘ol Hallowed Halls Not a phone there was stirring with absentee calls The Wednesday Nighters were hangin’ at home with great care Not to yearn for a moment or wish they were there The kiddos in bed with their heads full of dreaming Their visions with Hep-Kats and RE were teeming But I better digress for this rip-off is poor And a slap in the face to Clement C. Moore But hear me exclaim as I sign off for the year Merry Christmas to all from all of us here!

GLENCOE BOY SCOUT TROOP 352 is sponsoring a complimentary breakfast Saturday, January 3, 2015 from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m.at First Lutheran Church Fellowship Center to thank the Friends of Scouting who supported them by purchasing a wreath this year.

Area Faith Community News

COMMUNAL RECONCILIATION SERVICES TODAY: We are all getting our homes ready to receive the Lord at Christmas, and now it is time to ready our hearts and lives to receive him through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The St. John Paul II Area Faith Community is offering 3 communal celebrations of the Sacrament of Reconciliation today. We will begin at St. Pius X at 2:00 p.m. We will celebrate at Holy Trinity at 4:00 p.m. and conclude at Holy Family at 4:00 p.m.

Extra Reconciliation Times this Week: To assist you in getting ready for Christmas each of our parishes has scheduled extra times for the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation this week.

Church of the Holy Family: 5:00 p.m. on Monday

Church of the Holy Trinity: 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday

Church of St. Pius X: 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday

HOLY FAMILY ST. PIUS X YOUTH GROUP NEWS: Bible Study Saturday: Youth group members will gather at 10:00 a.m. in the parish library at St. Pius X for a study of the stories of the birth of Jesus in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. We hope to see you there. Tie Blanket Winners Announced: Joe Mallak and Val Shamla, both from Holy Family, won the tie blankets in the annual tie blanket drawing last week. We thank all of you for participating so generously.

AFC DIRECTORY UPDATE: After some struggles with layout corrections and listings, Lifetouch has informed us that our pictorial directories will be shipped on December 29. We hope to distribute them quickly after we receive them.

THE AFC PRAYER CHALLENGE CONTINUES: We have tried to make praying for the faithful departed and giving thanks to God at meal time a part of our prayer lives and have gathered our families to pray the Joyful Mysteries of the rosary. As we approach the celebration of Christmas and are encouraged and invited to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, our next task would be to review the process of celebrating the sacrament and the Act of Contrition. We invite you to pray the Act of Contrition as part of your prayers before you go to bed.

CHRISTMAS MASS SCHEDULE: We hope to see all of you at one of our 10 Masses in celebration of the Nativity of the Lord. We hope that your families will join with our parish families in celebration of this great feast.

Christmas Eve 4:00 p.m. Mass at all three parishes 6:00 p.m. Mass at Holy Trinity 6:00 p.m. Mass in Spanish at St. Pius X Midnight Mass at Holy Family and at Holy Trinity Christmas Day 8:00 a.m. Mass at Holy Family 10:00 a.m. Mass at Holy Trinity 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Pius X

PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR PARISH AT CHRISTMAS: As you make your plans we ask you to remember the ministries and programs in your Christmas giving plans. The Christmas gift you give to your parish helps us to announce the Good News of Jesus Christ throughout the whole year. God has been generous to us in his gift of salvation; let us be generous in return to the Lord.
