I am writing this message on Thursday, November 16. Because of the Thanksgiving holiday the deadline for today’s bulletin is tomorrow, and I am trying to get as much as I can done, so as not to work on the last weekend of my vacation. I have been putting bulletin announcements together, working on weekend Mass plans and Thanksgiving Mass plans, and because I am looking so far out I have to be careful not to mix things up, put things on the wrong date or forget important announcements. I find myself in high gear and wondering what is next in line. It seems that at times we occupy ourselves so much with what is coming next that the present moment loses some of its meaning and importnce. I have often used an exercise for meetings and retreats in which I ask people to think first of what they have already done today, then what they still have to do and finally to think of what they would rather be doing. After giving people time to think of each of these things, I then remind them that none of what they were just thinking will be of much use at this present moment in time. I invite them to set aside their busy lives and rushing thoughts to be present to the work at hand. The Solemnity of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe is a more solemn reminder of that exercise. As we gather to celebrate the end of all things, Jesus reminds us that our present lives are building an eternal future. As St. Paul reminds us all things will be gathered into Christ and that Christ will present himself to God the Father so that all things may be one in him. Our goal in each moment of our lives is to cooperate with Christ in bringing his Kingdom of mercy, justice and life into being. Everything that we do can be a step towards eternity in Christ. The message of this feast is that Christ will emerge triumphant in all things, and that we can follow him into eternity. The vision of the great separation of the sheep and the goats is not meant to frighten us, but to remind us that every act of love, and gesture of kindness and generosity, every struggle for justice, reconciliation, mercy and goodness binds us closer to Christ. We are drawn into the mystery of salvation by lives lived in generous service. Our service is a proclamation of faith and a ministry in Christ’s name. The opportunity of showing God’s love to the world proves the truth of the hymn we have often sung: “Where charity and love prevail, there God is ever found; Brought here together by Christ’s love, by love are we thus bound.” May the coming of the Lord find us ready to receive him and celebrate the bond of love our lives have maintained with him. What’s Next? I am writing this message on Thursday, November 16. Because of the Thanksgiving holiday the deadline for today’s bulletin is tomorrow, and I am trying to get as much as I can done, so as not

to work on the last weekend of my vacation. After giving people time to think of each of these things, I then

remind them that none of what they were just thinking will be of much use at this present moment in time.

Please contact Celia Knoll at 327-2356.

Thank you for considering this important ministry.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS POSTER CONTEST: At religious education classes this week students in grades K-8 received an invitation to participate in the Knights of Columbus Poster Contest. We hope that parents will encourage their students to participate, familiarize themselves with the rules and help their son or daughter to enter the contest. Posters are due on Wednesday, December 6.

DMA PARISH PROJECT: Thank you to your generosity towards the Diocesan Ministries Campaign. 20% of your donation will be returned to the parish. We have designated our portion of this year’s DMA to capital improvement projects for the church and rectory. If you have not already pledged for the year we invite you to pick up an envelope from the kiosk in the gathering area and join us in meeting our goals.

CHRISTMAS TREE SALE: A Parish-wide Fundraiser: This year’s Christmas tree sale project is a parish-wide fundraiser. The Knights of Columbus will coordinate the project for us and we thank them for their willingness to help, but the success of the project will depend on each of us. On the bulletin board in the gathering area there is a sign-up sheet for shifts in selling trees. We ask that you and your family sign-up for one or more shifts to help us to continue to provide this service to the community and raise money for the needs of our parish. Check your calendars and sign up for a shift today.

TIME TO CHANGE OUR MISSALS: Beginning on Monday, November 26, we will need help in placing the missals in the plastic covers. Volunteers can come to the parish office anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to help. On Friday, December 1, we will need help in removing the old missals from church and putting the new ones out. Please make plans to help us complete this project.

COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC WOMEN: if you are planning on attending the CCW Advent Gathering we ask you to please sign up by November 30.

ALL CATHOLIC UNITED FINANCIAL MEMBERS and their families are invited to a Christmas party on Saturday, December 2 at 1:30 p.m. in the Sarto Room. Please bring an hors d’oeuvre to pass. Beverages will be furnished. Contact Joanne at 320-510-1551.

THE RE CONNECTION: Back in 1925, when Pope Pius XI instituted this weekend’s Feast of Christ the King with his encyclical, “Quas Primas”, he had high hopes for a world still recovering from the Great War to return their obedience to that of the true King of the Universe, our Blessed Lord, whose Kingdom has no physical boundaries, only those barriers which people build upon their hardness of heart. It is such human inclinations that our catechists give their all to help our kiddos steer away from. And speaking of steering, we are in dire need of a Catechist to drive half of our Fifth Grade class through the last half of the year. Any interested party would receive all the support in lesson planning they desire, and these kiddos can’t wait to meet you and learn all about the Faith through your special experiences. Please contact Mr. Simons at your convenience, and we’ll get you on the road to spiritual fulfillment! The happiness of the Hallowed Halls awaits…

SINGING FRIENDS CHORUS PRESENTS: a free Christmas Concert, Saturday, December 2, at Church of St. Pius X, at 2:00 p.m. and on Sunday, December 3, at Church of Peace, Norwood/Young America, at 2:00 p.m. The concerts feature an array of sacred, traditional, spiritual and contemporary Christmas music. HOLY TRINITY HONOR SOCIETY is once again having their “Give a Toy to a Girl or Boy” toy drive. Items will be collected until December 8th. Students are encouraged to bring in new toys or items that can be given to children of their own age. The entire school will be involved in this drive and our goal is to bring in at least 150 items so that 150 children can have a Merry Christmas. Toys can be dropped off under the Christmas tree in the high school lobby or delivered to the elementary office. All items collected will be given to the McLeod Social Service Center for the 2017 McLeod County Christmas Project. The items will then be distributed to families who do not have the opportunity to buy or receive gifts during the holiday season. Remember, Jesus gave His life for all of us. Can we give some Christmas joy to others? Holy Trinity Sacramental Brothers and Sisters participate in Operation Christmas Child. Each year, our junior and second grade classes are matched up for our Sacramental Brothers and Sisters program. This program serves as a way for both students to prepare for the sacraments they will receive that year; the juniors for their Confirmation and the second grade for their First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. This gives each class a unique opportunity to support one another in this very important time in both of their faith lives. The juniors serve as mentors and show the second graders how much their faith means to them and it gives the second graders an opportunity to remind the juniors how exciting it can be to learn more about their faith.

For several years, the Sacramental Brothers and Sisters have packed shoeboxes with toys, school supplies, and hygiene products for children in need throughout the world. This program is called Operation Christmas Child. This ministry has really flourished here at Holy Trinity and it is a wonderful opportunity for students to engage in a hands-on mission and experience the joy of shopping for and filling shoeboxes for children who are victims of war, earthquakes, floods, famines, poverty, jobless parents, or other life devastations. We are grateful to all who help us make this project possible each year, and we are very proud of our students for reaching out a helping hand to those in need this Thanksgiving season.

If you haven’t made your pledge or given a gift, please consider making your contribution now. Remember that your gift also supports our parishes’ projects. Be assured that your gift will only be used to support those ministries designated in the DMA brochure and no other.
