PARISH PROJECTS COMPLETED!

Dear Parishioners,

With the fall well under way I wanted to update you on all that was accomplished this summer at St. Francis Xavier Parish. With the funds raised last fall through #iGiveCatholic we were able to complete the renovation of the belfry of the church. Utilizing a 135' lift, Loken Historical Restoration was able to strip the old and peeling paint, replace broken or missing boards, fill gaps with epoxy, and then fully repaint the entire area that surrounds the bell. Additionally, the four dormer windows along the roof and both the east and west roof crosses were restored and painted. The only item not completed was the restoration and painting of the steeple cross. This cross is so high that no lift exists in Missoula to reach it. Stay tuned as we make arrangements to bring in equipment that will tackle this job for us in the near future.

The brick walls that extend up above the roof of the Loyola Center were made weather-tight in September thanks to the efforts of Metalworks of Montana. Roofing material was added or extended from the existing roof membrane to complete encapsulate the brickwork. Additionally, the old chimney had five courses of bricks removed and then was fitted with a permanent steel cap. Metalworks of Montana then moved over to the church where they were able to correct the drainage problem we were having with the exterior drain on the landing above the front stairs.

With the help of a $4,000 grant from the Foundation for the Diocese of Helena and a generous donor, the St. Francis Xavier Facilities Commission was able to tackle the renovation of yet another classroom in the Loyola Center. This room had been the former chemistry lab when the building was used as Loyola High School. It will now become the parish "art and project" room and sits next to the Youth Group and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd classrooms on the second floor. The room now has a completely refinished floor, a new dry-wall ceiling, brand new lighting fixtures, and a fresh coat of paint. It is equipped with kitchen cabinets and a brand new sink. We're excited to be opening this room, especially to our youth groups, within another week.

Lastly, thanks to Doug Dahlberg and WGM group, we were able to complete a landscaping plan for the entire parish campus. This past summer the plan was used to create the new flower beds on either side of the main church steps. In the ensuing years, we will continue to add more and more landscaping as we continue to beautify our parish home.

I wish to thank all of our contractors, Facilities Commission volunteers, donors, and especially all of you who continue to support the maintenance and restoration needs of our historic parish. Without you, none of our restoration work would be possible and my job as parish administrator would be all the more challenging. I cannot thank you all enough.

Sincerely,

Colin McCormackParish Administrator

On behalf of the whole parish community I want to thank her for her very hard work this past year. We owe her many thanks, and we all wish her the very best in her future. After careful consideration, it has been decided to split the full time position into two part time positions: 1) Choir Director; and 2) Music Director. Altar Server Training Join long-time server Whitney Bloomdahl and Blakely for a hands-on altar server training Sunday, October 27th after the 10am mass. If you aren’t sure if you’re ready for this ministry yet or if you just need a refresher, come experience this intimate view of Mass. Parents, this is a wonderful opportunity to attend with your child(ren), please plan on staying with them. As the training will take place during coffee and doughnuts, we will provide goodies afterward! Come join us!

Planning a Baptism? We are thrilled to be blessed with so many families wishing to have their young ones brought into the church through the Sacrament of Baptism. Please note that the Diocese of Helena requires that those wishing to have infants receive the Sacrament must first attend one of our baptism classes. Additionally, as it is appropriate to welcome your child in to our community during mass, St. Francis Xavier designates certain weekends each month in which to do so, with the exception of the seasons of Advent and Lent when no baptisms are scheduled. We strongly encourage you to consult with Autumn Schwenk, our parish secretary, at 542.0321 as to which dates are available prior to inviting out of town guests to share this special event with you. Thank you for adherence to this policy and for planning your child’s baptism with us!
