I am humbled by the notes and prayers received after one week on the job at St. Francis Xavier. This is truly a wonderful community. As I start anew in Missoula, and continue on in St. Ignatius, I realize it is only because of the strong ministry teams in place at both parishes that I am able to serve the parishes and two mission stations. The collaboration between the myself and the ministry teams, in many ways are highlighted by today’s gospel.

When Jesus wanted to teach his disciples about the power of the word of God, which every Jesuit par-ish proclaims, he began: “Listen! Imagine a sower going out to sow” He explained how some seed falls upon rocky ground, some among the weeds, and other upon fertile soil where it yields a rich harvest.” Pope Emeritus Benedict, in an allocution to a gathering of Jesuits stressed the importance of mission, he gave the Jesuits the task to “make the face of the Lord known to so many for whom it remains hidden or unrecognizable”.

My vision for is to partner with all members of the parish in an effort to create relationships which help the movement through the sometimes-rocky soil of life to the fertile ground of joy and faith. For some, this movement will be learning how to move from poor choices to good choices, from good choices to still better, and from personal choices to those directed toward the community. These movements re-quire addressing all in honesty and humility, while practicing consistent and fair concern in order to grow as a parish. During these COVID times, it will also require the development of new and positive programming. I believe this development can be designed in such a way to practice our shared faith and in the belief that our community success is interdependent on our individual success. Ideally, this will allow for the face of the Lord to become recognizable in our parish.

C Hightower, S.J.

Filled with peace and calm.Eucharistic Adoration

On the First Friday of the month 9:00 am until Noon and on Wednesdays 9:00 am until 3:00 pm you are invited to pray before the Blessed Sacra-ment.If you can devote an hour or have questions please contact our facilitator Kathy 406.251.3704

The following is an excerpt from a thoughtful email we received a few years ago from a man expressing what Eucharistic Adoration meant to him.

‘I felt compelled to write out of gratitude. I choose to volunteer to be with Jesus from noon on each week. I find it hard to put to words what has been taking place there. It is very subtile, but profound. Even on the weeks I resist coming, I find that I am filled with this peace and calm. For me as a man, this is quite extraordinary, as I am fairly conflicted by my na-ture. I know that the love of Christ is slowly speak-ing to me, and I am trying so hard to listen.’

Join the Retreat! St. Francis Xavier Parish invites you to join us for the full Spiritual Exercises retreat from September to May.
