Diocesan Ministries Fund

Our commitment to DMF this year is low. This is not connected with the poor economy. However, we still plead with those who have not made any pledge to do something no matter how small. Many little drops fill a bucket so little drops from all of us will be helpful in reducing the shortfall.

We enter the last week of Advent and if we have prepared well, things should be gearing towards making a home for God not only in our houses but also in our hearts. David in our first reading saw through the need to build a house for God after evaluating the magnificence of his own dwelling and that of the Most High, God. Though the prophet later forbade him from the project but his intention was pleasing to God and won him the blessing of his progeny being on the throne for years to come. The reading equally made us understand that God will build himself a house. That house one could say, is captured in the story of the incarnation where God chose to build for himself a home in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary. However, the joy we are preparing to celebrate this season is not just that Mary received this gift which God makes through her. It is that she really gave the world her King and Messiah. In our age and time we hear the message of the angel, we hear of God’s intention but we do not experience that incarnation; maybe because we have no thought of building a house for God, nor offering Him ourselves that His message may take flesh in us. Many of us are very comfortable in our skins and in our spaces. There are many people who don’t come to Church because they can-not endure the hard pew, those who cannot endure the intense heat or cold of the church, and those who cannot endure the sometimes poor reading, poor homily or choral rendition. You can make a differ-ence by doing something for God as David did. When Mary said yes to God you can be sure that she did not know in detail the emotional stress ahead. She only believed knowing that nothing is impossible for God? If you know of the goodness of God, don’t be afraid to build for God because He will guarantee your blessing. If you believe, don’t be afraid to say Yes to God because He waits for those who will give the Spirit of Christ to the world.

Please keep in your prayers the families of Pablo Antonio Gonzales and Ida Garcia who were buried this past week.
