Saint Charles Parish San Diego / Imperial Beach Page Two

Our Mission St. Charles is a Christ focused, diverse, family centered, Catholic community serving Imperial Beach and the South Bay. We believe in the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and His saving grace received through the Sacraments. We believe in the Holy Catholic Church instituted by Jesus, the sanctity of life, the value of family, and lifelong Catholic education for all ages. We live to deepen our love of God, spread His Gospel and bring others to Christ. We are committed to a life of prayer, sacrifice, and service to those in need. With love, humility, and joyful obedience, we strive to be transformed and guided by the Holy Spirit until we are transformed in the eternal life of Heaven.

Daily Prayer For Priests O Jesus, I pray for your faithful and fervent priests; For your unfaithful and tepid priests; For your priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields. For your tempted priests; For your lonely and desolate priests; For your young priests; For your dying priests; For the souls of your priests in Purgatory. But above all, I recommend to you the priests dearest to me: The priest who baptized me; The priests who absolved me from my sins; The priests at whose Masses I assisted and who gave me Your Body and Blood in Holy Communion; The priests who taught and instructed me; All the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way (especially_________). O Jesus, keep them all close to your heart, And bless them abundantly in time and in Eternity. Amen By St. Therese of Lisieux

From the Desk of Fr. Emilio Re-Opening of the Church

WEARING MASKS Parishioners must wear masks before entering the church and throughout Mass. Children under the age of 2 are not re-quired to wear masks. The only time you will take your mask off is when you receive Communion. SANITIZING YOUR HANDS Hand sanitizer will be available at the doors of the church. ENTERING AND LEAVING CHURCH We will NOT be entering from the side doors. We will be entering from the main front doors Also, please do not arrive too early or plan to stay long after Mass because we will need to allow enough time to sanitize between Masses. MASS Communion will now be under one species. Communion will be solely on the hand. Missals & songbooks will no longer be used. Computer monitors will be used. Mass will now be with ONE cantor & ONE musician. Ushers will not come around to take up the collection. Rather, a box will be placed at in front of the first pew at every station where you can place your envelope or cash contribution when you come up for communion. I’d strongly encour-age you to sign up for online-giving through our website Saintcharles.org if you haven’t done so. It is safe and secure and you can set it up to make your weekly contribution recurring. You can call the parish office for more information on how to sign up for online giving. DECALS FOR PHYSICAL DISTANCING AND MARKING OF PEWS Decals will be placed on the church floor in order to help us maintain the proper physical distance as we enter and exit church as well as to properly space us out as we receive Holy Communion. Pews will be marked to show where parish-ioners are able to be seated. We will also have to tape off pews throughout the church. An important note: It will not be necessary for families who live in the same household to physically distance. PHYSICAL DISTANCING AND HOLY COMMUNION We will need to maintain physical distance not only when seated but also when coming up for Communion. We’ll also need to maintain physical distance when entering and exiting the church. Decals will be on the floor indicating how peo-ple should be spaced. For the time being, we need to change our Communion lines. There will not be enough physical space to have two lines coming up the center aisle. Therefore, we will have only three Communion stations: one station for each aisle (Center, East & West wing). Maintaining physical distance, you will come up the aisle to receive Com-munion, and the ministers of Holy Communion will sanitize their hands before distributing Communion and will wear a mask while distributing Communion. The ministers of Holy Communion are not allowed to wear gloves to distribute Communion, nor are you allowed to wear gloves when receiving Communion. If the minister of Holy Communion acci-dentally makes contact with someone while giving out Communion, they will place the ciborium on the table next to them, sanitize their hands, and then continue to distribute Holy Communion. After you have received Communion you may exit the church. (Final blessing will be given before Communion) DISINFECTING THE CHURCH: We will wipe down the pews, railings, door knobs, and bathroom after each Mass, but we will be using fewer pews since we will have to maintain physical distance during Mass. THOSE WHO SHOULD STAY HOME The first thing I’d like to emphasize is that I am strongly encouraging the elderly and other people who are at risk to please refrain from attending Mass when we return. I know this is a sacrifice for you, but I want you to stay healthy and safe. We will coordinate a way to safely bring you Holy Communion. Also, when we return to Mass, if you have any symptoms of any type of illness, you absolutely must stay home. Please keep in mind that we must care for one another during this time.
