Christian Initiation of Adults (Catechumenate) For those inquiring about Initiation and Communion with the Catholic Church, please contact the Parish Office, 714-893-2766.

Christian Initiation of Infants (Baptisms) Infant baptisms are celebrated monthly following catechesis for pa ren t s and godparen t s o f candidates. Please contact the Parish Office at least one month in advance of enrollment.

Celebration of Christian Marriage Registered parishioners should contact the Parish Office for an appointment with one of the priests at least six months prior to marriage and also attend one Marriage Orientation class.

Anointing of the Sick In the event of a serious illness or a medical emergency, the Parish Office should be contacted immediately so that the sacrament of the sick may be conferred by a priest.

Celebration of Christian Funerals At the death of a loved one, kindly notify the Parish Office at your earliest convenience so that the dates and times for the Funeral Liturgy may be arranged.

Eucharistic Adoration On the 22nd of each month we gather in prayer and praise before the Blessed Sacrament praying for an increase in vocations. If the 22nd of the month falls on Saturday or Sunday, Adoration will be held on the following Monday. Adoration is also every Saturday, 3:30pm to 5:00pm.

PSA 2017 UPDATE CONGRATULATIONS!

You have met our Diocesan goal much earlier in the year than last year for the 2016 PSA.

Now all funds collected will return to our parish as rebate checks, which we will use to FINALLY pay off our parking lot debt.

Wouldn’t it be GREAT to pay off the balance of the parking lot debt this year???

We as a parish could then move on to accomplish more improvements for our corner of God’s kingdom.

Casino trips are Family Support Center's only fundraisers. These funds, and donations from the community, are our only source of income. FSC distributes food to those in need every Monday and Wednesday. We also help with financial aid, on a limited basis, for those who need emergency assistance. We need your help to continue in this ministry: Last year we distributed food to over 16,000 individuals!

Please, if you are able, consider joining us on a trip. You will have a good time and, at the same time, be performing a Corporal work of Mercy. We appreciate your consideration!

Tuesday, August 1 – Harrah’s Casino – 8:45 Boarding: Join us for a FUN day! Cost is $15.00. $10.00 back at the Casino. Boarding time is 8:45am. Coffee and Donuts served prior to departure. Return approximately 6:00 pm. $15 reserves your seat! Reservations should be made at least 1 week prior to the Casino date to guarantee seating. We must advise Casino a week prior to trip as to the number of participants. If insufficient number, we must cancel. So, early reservations are appreciated. *NOTE: Please note correct boarding time is 8:45am.

FSC is a satellite office of the Santa Ana Life Center. FSC provides information, and referrals for assistance. Life Center is always in need of regular size towels and face cloths. Used maternity clothes, baby clothes, and other baby items such as diapers are also needed. Please consider donating any extras you may have. We are not able to accept food donations. All donations are Tax Deductible. FSC delivers all donations to the Life Center.

When we evangelize, we do not seek to single out those who would destroy God’s kingdom. It is written: “…if you pull up the weeds you might uproot wheat along with them” [Mt.13: 26] Our task is to constantly remind God’s children, the wheat among the weeds, by our actions, that God permits repentance for our sins. We do that by first, acknowledging that we are sinners and repenting of our sins and second, by living lives worthy of the kingdom for all to see.

There are several restoration projects needed for our parish. These various upgrades are needed for safety and

beautification. These project requests have come from our many councils who assist me with parish operations.

Following is a list of upgrades for your consideration:

>> New sound system for parish hall $5,000.00 >> New flooring RCIA room 14 $ 2,400.00 >> Altar Banners (4sets of 2 banners) $2,900.00 per set: one set on either side of the tabernacle and corresponding to the liturgical seasons.

More Notes from Wine & Cheese Gathering June 27, 2017

The Hispanic Community has begun a program encouraged by Pope Francis entitled: ‘V Encuentro’. Parishioners receive training and go in pairs to homes of those who have left the church. They discuss reasons for their departure and look to what could be done to encourage their return. Some individuals asked if we have young leaders coming up in our church to carry on our mission? What is the level of involvement and leadership in our young members? A concern was expressed about the demands now on parents who have to work and raise their children as practicing Catholics. What kind of support do they need? We need to encourage parents to send their children to St. Polycarp School where they will receive a quality education as well as excellent spiritual formation. If they cannot afford to send their child to Catholic School, what other support should the parish provide? A concern was raised about the lack of programs for our youth after completing the Confirmation program. They need ongoing education and opportunities to be involved in parish life. Can we do anything to enhance our worship space? Some would like to see religious images in the church windows. Is this possible? The reality at St. Polycarp is the fact that we are still paying for the parking lot. When that debt is paid, we can look to such additions. We could pay off our debt this year if parishioners responded generously to this campaign. The question was asked about retreats at St. Polycarp. Could there be a children’s page in the bulletin? A request was made for more time of Eucharistic Adoration. There was interest in having more teaching on the Eucharist, its meaning, and place of importance in the Christian life. Also, there could be a review of the posture and responses when receiving the Eucharist. There was a request that we receive instruction on the parts of the Mass that prepare one to receive the Eucharist.

VIETNAMESE COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING UPDATE

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who volunteered and put forth extraordinary effort to work our five annual fundraising events, especially the New Year Rice Cake project for 2016/2017 fiscal year. Throughout the year, we have finalized four Food Sale weekend events and the New Year Rice Cake project and have donated a total of $18,724.71 to the parish. With this miraculous amount for the 2016/2017 fiscal year, the Vietnamese Community has exceeded every other year’s response to the request of the Finance Council to support our parish needs.

Every dollar earned is because of the hard work that each and every one of the Vietnamese Community parishioners at St. Polycarp has put in throughout each event from sunrise until sunset to make it possible. The commitment to pull this together is well recognized and appreciated by our Pastor, Father Michael St. Paul, who has expressed his deepest, sincere appreciation to all the group leaders in the Vietnamese Community, and to each and every one of you and your families in the community for making this happen. We are all part of the family of St. Polycarp and we must join together to bring faith, love and trust among our parishioners.

Bless you and all your families with prayers to our heavenly Father in return for your kindness and love to support our parish. We will continue to strive to fulfill the parish needs that are still waiting for helping hands. BAUTISMOS PASOS :

Papás y padrinos, deberan asistír el primer Domingo del mes a las 10:00 am para registrar a su hijo(a) y al mísmo tiempo para tomar la clase requerida. Padres: Traer una copia del certificado de nacimiento de su hijo(a). No traiga el original. Padrinos: Traer una copia del acta de matrimonio de la Iglesia donde se casaron. El Segundo Domingo de Cada mes es la Ceremonia del Bautísmo a las 2:00 pm. Habra una segunda platica el Viernes despues del Bautizo a las 7:00pm. Costo $50 por niño; $25 si solamente toma la plática

DONACIONES DE SANGRE HOY

Los Caballeros de Colon patrocinan donaciones de sangre el domingo, 23 de julio de 8:00AM a 2:00PM en la sala de la parroquia. Las donaciones de sangre son necesarias urgentemente como suministros están muy bajos. Si usted tiene al menos de 17 anos, o 16 con permiso firmado, por favor considere donar sangre a la Cruz Roja Americana.

Cuando evangelizamos, no buscamos identificar a aquellos que destruirían el reino de Dios. Está escrito: "... si arrancas las malas hierbas, podrías desarraigar el trigo junto con ellas" [Mt.13: 26]. Nuestra tarea es recordar constantemente a los hijos de Dios, el trigo entre las malas hierbas, por nuestras acciones, que Dios permite el arrepentimiento Por nuestros pecados. Hacemos eso primero, reconociendo que somos pecadores y arrepentimos de nuestros pecados y segundo, viviendo vidas dignas del reino para que todos las vean.

Se ha observado que las familias (o individuos) están usando el estacionamiento de la parroquia para las lecciones sobre

cómo conducir un coche. Por favor, no use el estacionamiento de la parroquia para practicar la conducción. La seguridad y el bienestar de otros conductores y de los peatones son de gran importancia; Por lo tanto, su comprensión y cooperación de no utilizar el estacionamiento

de la iglesia (s) para practicar habilidades de conducción son muy apreciados. También existe la cuestión de la responsabilidad en caso de que haya un accidente. ¡Gracias!

SỨ MẠNG CỦA GIÁO XỨ.

Giáo xứ Thánh Polycarp may mắn có nhiều nền văn hóa và sự sống động của các chương trình mục vụ khác nhau của các cộng đồng giáo dân, điều này đem đến một làn gió thánh thiện chào đón mọi người, đặc biệt là giới trẻ, là những người mong muốn có một đời sống đạo sâu xa hơn với Chúa Giêsu Kitô. Như là những môn đệ của Chúa, chúng ta giúp cho những người nghèo đói, đây là cuộc hành trình đức tin dành cho các anh chị em chúng ta trên con đường sống đạo mới với niềm hy vọng và lòng can đảm, trong một công việc bác ái an toàn và vui vẻ.

8- Giáo xứ phát động chương trình Quĩ Mục Vụ Giáo Phận năm 2017.- Giáo xứ đã phát động đợt 2 cho chương trình đóng góp cho Quĩ Mục Vụ của Giáo Phận (PSA) năm 2017. Chương trình kêu gọi mọi Giáo dân trong Giáo phận đóng góp tài chánh cho Giáo phận để có nguồn tài chánh sinh hoạt cho Giáo phận đồng thời cũng đóng góp tài chánh cho các sinh hoạt của Giáo hội trung ương tại Rôma. Đây là nghĩa vụ và bổn phận của mọi Kitô hữu cần thực hiện giúp cho việc truyền giáo tại địa phương cũng như trên thế giới được tiến triển đều hòa. Ngoài ra theo dự trù, trong năm 2017, Giáo xứ phải đóng góp cho Giáo phận hơn 92,000 Dollars US. Ngoài số tiền dự trù phải đóng góp, Giáo phận sẽ hoàn trả lại cho Giáo xứ do đóng phụ trội để Giáo xứ trả nợ cho Giáo phận số tiền mà Giáo xứ mượn để sửa chữa bải đậu xe trong khuôn viên Thánh đường. Xin Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa nhiệt liệt hưởng ứng và tích cực tham gia tùy khả năng tài chánh của mỗi người cho chương trình này. Xin theo dõi tiến trình đóng góp của Giáo xứ qua các bảng có đặt tại nhiều nơi xung quanh Thánh đường. 9- Hội chợ Fiesta của Giáo xứ.- Giáo xứ sẽ tổ chức Hội chợ Fiesta năm 2017 cho Giáo xứ vào các ngày 22, 23 và 24 tháng 9 năm 2017 (Thứ Sáu, Thứ Bảy và Chúa Nhật tuần thứ tư của tháng 9). Cũng như các năm trước, Cộng đoàn Việt nam sẽ có một gian hàng thực phẩm bán các món ăn Việt nam trong suốt ba ngày. Đây là một sinh hoạt đặc biệt để xây dựng và tạo tình huynh đệ giữa các sắc dân trong Giáo xứ, xin các Hội đoàn – Đoàn thể và toàn thể Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa tích cực hưởng ứng và tham gia, đóng góp công sức cho Hội chợ dạt được kết qủa tốt đẹp. Xin các cơ sở thương mại tích cực bảo trợ cho Hội chợ của Giáo xứ. Cũng xin giới thiệu cho các cơ sở thương mại quen biết để xin bảo trợ cho Hội trợ.

Mọi hình thức cần được trưng bày phải có sự chấp thuận của cha Chánh Xứ. Giáo xứ sẽ đem bỏ tất cả những đồ vật này nếu không có xin phép. THÔNG BÁO CỘNG ĐOÀN. 1- Giờ chầu Thánh Thể thinh lặng.- Xin Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa lưu ý: Giáo xứ có giờ chầu Thánh Thể thinh lặng từ 3giờ30 đến 5giờ vào mỗi chiều Thứ Bảy hằng tuần. Xin kính mời Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa cùng đến tham dự giờ chầu Thánh Thể nêu trên. 2- Giờ lần chuỗi Lòng Chúa Thương Xót của Giáo xứ.- Sau Thánh lễ 8giờ30 sáng từ Thứ Hai đến Thứ Bảy trong tuần, Giáo xứ có lần chuỗi Lòng Chúa Thương Xót bằng tiếng Anh, và vào lúc 3giờ chiều mỗi ngày, Cộng đoàn có lần chuỗi Lòng Chúa Thương Xót bằng tiếng Việt tại Thánh đường (hoặc tại Đài Đức Mẹ). Kính mời Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa cùng tham dự. 3- Ngày Giáo Xứ chầu Thánh Thể.- Giáo xứ chầu Thánh Thể vào Thứ Hai ngày 24 tháng 7 năm 2017 (thay cho ngày Thứ Bảy, 22 tháng 7). Cộng đoàn sẽ có 2 giờ chầu: lúc 3giờ chiều do Hội Cầu Nguyện phụ trách và 8giờ tối do Ca Đoàn Dũng Lạc hai nhóm thứ Bảy và Chủ Nhật của Cộng đoàn phụ trách. Kính mời Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa sốt sắng tham dự. 4- Buổi họp hai ngành của Legio Mariae.- Hội Legio-Mariae của Cộng đoàn sẽ có một buổi sinh hoạt cho cả hai ngành Hoạt động và Tán trợ vào lúc 5giờ chiều Thứ Bảy ngày 29 tháng 7 năm 2017 tại phòng họp thường lệ. Lớp hướng dẫn cho Cha Mẹ và người Đỡ Đầu từ 7 đến 9giờ tối Thứ Ba ngày 18 tháng 7 năm 2017 tại phòng sinh hoạt trước đài Đức Mẹ. Xin quí cha mẹ và người đỡ đầu có mặt đầy đủ và đúng giờ. 6- Xin ghi nhớ ngày Cộng đoàn Picnic.- Năm nay, Cộng đoàn sẽ tổ chức ngày họp mặt ngoài trời (Picnic) vào Chúa Nhật ngày 20 tháng 8 năm 2017 tại địa điểm cũ (Modjeska Park). Xin Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa ghi nhớ ngày Cộng đoàn Picnic và ghi vào lịch sinh hoạt của gia đình để cùng đến tham dự. 7- Lãnh nhận Bí tích Xức Dầu Bệnh Nhân.- Xin Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa lưu ý: mỗi khi có trường hợp cần mời Linh mục trong Giáo xứ đến ban Bí Tích Xức Dầu Bệnh Nhân cho một người, xin liên lạc trực tiếp hay qua điện thoại với Văn Phòng Giáo xứ để được hướng dẫn; và xin nói tiếng Anh, vì Văn phòng Giáo xứ không có người Việt Nam.

Khi chúng ta loan truyền Tin Mừng, chúng ta không tìm cách để loại bỏ những người phá hủy vương quốc của Thiên Chúa. Thánh kinh viết rằng: "... Khi lúa mọc lên và trổ bông, thì cỏ lùng cũng xuất hiện" [Mt.13: 26] Nhiệm vụ của chúng ta là liên tục nhắc nhở con cái Thiên Chúa, lúa mì giữa cỏ dại, bằng hành động của chúng ta, Thiên Chúa tha thứ qua sự ăn năn vì tội lỗi của chúng ta. Trước tiên chúng ta làm điều đó, thừa nhận rằng chúng ta là người tội lỗi và sám hối ăn năn và sau đó, thay đổi bằng cách sống đời sống xứng đáng với vương quốc Thiên Chúa để mọi người cùng nhìn thấy.
