Christian Initiation of Adults (Catechumenate) For those inquiring about Initiation and Communion with the Catholic Church, please contact the Parish Office, 714-893-2766.

Christian Initiation of Infants (Baptisms) Infant baptisms are celebrated monthly following catechesis for pa ren t s and godparen t s o f candidates. Please contact the Parish Office at least one month in advance of enrollment.

Celebration of Christian Marriage Registered parishioners should contact the Parish Office for an appointment with one of the priests at least six months prior to marriage and also attend one Marriage Orientation class.

Anointing of the Sick In the event of a serious illness or a medical emergency, the Parish Office should be contacted immediately so that the sacrament of the sick may be conferred by a priest.

Celebration of Christian Funerals At the death of a loved one, kindly notify the Parish Office at your earliest convenience so that the dates and times for the Funeral Liturgy may be arranged.

Eucharistic Adoration On the 22nd of each month we gather in prayer and praise before the Blessed Sacrament praying for an increase in vocations. If the 22nd of the month falls on Saturday or Sunday, Adoration will be held on the following Monday. Adoration is also every Saturday, 3:30pm to 5:00pm.

ST. POLYCARP OF SMYRNA

As we prepare to celebrate the feast of our parish patron, St. Polycarp, let's take time to review what we know about this Father of the Church.

St. Polycarp was one of the immediate disciples of the

Apostles, in particular St. John the Evangelist. He embraced Christianity very young and was named bishop of Smyrna. He was greatly respected by the faithful, wrote many letters and formed many holy disciples. His epistle to the Philippians - the only one to be preserved - demonstrates his apostolic spirit, his profound humility and meekness, and his great charity. To be continued next week......

Our "Celebrating Catholic School Week" begins this weekend, Sunday, January 29, 2017. We want to personally invite you, our church family, to come to our Open House TODAY; drop by anytime from 10:00am-2:30pm for a personal tour of the campus.

We will have actual classes in session from 12:00-1:00pm TODAY where you can witness the one-on-one learning experience, grades TK through 8th, that each student receives.

FAITH FORMATION UPDATES

We Need Volunteers! The Faith Formation program is always looking for volunteers to help with classes, prayers, testing, office help and more. If you have about an hour or so to donate a week, please call us at 714/892-3158.

Casino trips are Family Support Center's only fundraisers. These funds, and donations from the community, are our only source of income. FSC distributes food to those in need every Monday and Wednesday. We also help with financial aid, on a limited basis, for those who need emergency assistance. We need your help to continue in this ministry: Last year we distributed food to over 16,000 individuals!

Please, if you are able, consider joining us on a trip. You will have a good time and, at the same time, be performing a Corporal work of Mercy. We appreciate your consideration!

Family Support Center is a self-sustaining ministry. Your support is needed to keep our programs going! FSC is a satellite office of the Santa Ana Life Center. FSC provides information, and referrals for assistance. Life Center is always in need of regular size towels and face cloths. Used maternity clothes, baby clothes, and other baby items such as diapers are also needed. Please consider donating any extras you may have. We are not able to accept food donations. All donations are Tax Deductible. FSC delivers all donations to the Life Center.

READINGS FOR THE WEEK

Dear Friends in Christ,

One of the most exceptional parts of belonging to St. Polycarp is the feeling of belonging; we are part of something much greater than any one person. Our Church connects us all- as neighbors, as a community, as children of God and followers of Christ.

I am heartened by all the good work I see accomplished through our parishioners’ dedication of their gifts of time, talent and treasure. From faith formation, to outreach in the community activities, our parish is alive in the Spirit.

For 2017, our PSA goal is $95,000. I am confident that together we can reach this extraordinary goal. Think how much of an impact these funds can make, not only in our parish, but in the greater Catholic community as well. Last year, our rebate of approximately $37,000 was used to pay a portion of the balance of our parking lot loan. This year, our parish rebate will be used to finish paying off our parking lot loan balance of $225,000.

It is especially important that we have full participation this year in order to pay off this loan. As you know we cannot move forward with other projects as long as the loan is outstanding.

It is important that you prayerfully discern and listen to your heart when making your decision for your pledge.

Your response to God’s generosity is of great consolation to me as your pastor, and I hope that I can count on your participation this year. I am inviting you to join me and your parish family in making your pledge on our commitment weekend of January 29. Your continued support is a great encouragement to me in my ministry here at St. Polycarp as we continue our work of Christ.

Estimados Amigos en Cristo,

Una de las cosas más excepcionales de ser parte de San Policarpo es el sentimiento de pertenencia: somos parte de algo mucho más grande que una persona. Nuestra Iglesia nos conecta como vecinos, como comunidad, como hijos e hijas de Dios y seguidores de Cristo.

Estoy muy satisfecho de ver todas las buenas obras que han llevado a cabo gracias al tiempo, dedicación y dones de nuestros feligreses. Desde ministerios para la formación de la fe, hasta programas de alcance a la comunidad, y actividades sociales y comunitarias; nuestra parroquia está viva en el Espíritu.

Para el 2017, nuestra meta para la PSA es de $95,000. Tengo la confianza de que juntos podremos alcanzar esta meta extraordinaria. Piensen en el gran impacto que estos fondos pueden hacer, no solo en nuestra parroquia sino también en la gran comunidad católica. El año pasado aproximadamente $37,000 fue usado para pagar una parte de del balance del préstamo de nuestro estacionamiento. Este año, el reembolso de nuestra parroquia será usado para terminar de pagar el balance de nuestro préstamo de estacionamiento que es $225,000.

Es muy importante que tengamos completa participación este año para poder pagar este préstamo. Mientras tengamos esta deuda tan grande no podemos iniciar nuevos proyectos.

Es importante que en oración discierna y escuche a su corazón al momento de decidir la cantidad de su promesa.

Su respuesta a la generosidad de Dios es un gran consuelo para mí como su párroco y espero poder contar con su participación este año. Lo invito a que se una a mí y a nuestra familia parroquial para hacer su promesa durante nuestra semana de compromiso que será el enero 29. Su constante apoyo es un gran aliciente para mí en mi ministerio aquí en San Policarpo, a medida que continuamos trabajando en las obras de Cristo.

Ya comenzamos a prepararnos para la celebración de nuestro santo patrono, San Policarpo; hagamos un tiempecito para ver que es lo que sabemos acerca de este padre de la Iglesia.

San Policarpo fue uno de los discípulos inmediatos de los apóstoles, en particular del evangelista San Juan. El adopta el Cristianismo cuando era muy joven y fue nombrado Obispo de Smyrna.

SỨ MẠNG CỦA GIÁO XỨ.

Giáo xứ Thánh Polycarp may mắn có nhiều nền văn hóa và sự sống động của các chương trình mục vụ khác nhau của các cộng đồng giáo dân, điều này đem đến một làn gió thánh thiện chào đón mọi người, đặc biệt là giới trẻ, là những người mong muốn có một đời sống đạo sâu xa hơn với Chúa Giêsu Kitô. Như là những môn đệ của Chúa, chúng ta giúp cho những người nghèo đói, đây là cuộc hành trình đức tin dành cho các anh chị em chúng ta trên con đường sống đạo mới với niềm hy vọng và lòng can đảm, trong một công việc bác ái an toàn và vui vẻ.

thực hiện lúc 7giờ tối Thứ Hai ngày 13 tháng 2 năm 2017 do Hội Các Bà Mẹ Công Giáo của Cộng đoàn phụ trách. Chương trình được rút gọn trong 30 phút. Qua ba buổi lần chuỗi Mân Côi vừa qua, số người tham dự rất đông và sốt sắng. Ban Thường Vụ tha thiết kính mời toàn thể Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa xa gần, sắp xếp thời gian, cùng đến tham dự. 8- Giáo xứ mừng bổn mạng, Thánh Polycarp.- Theo lịch phụng vụ, Lễ Thánh Polycarp, Giám Mục Tử Đạo, bổn mạng của Giáo xứ được kính vào 23 tháng 2 hằng năm. Giáo xứ sẽ cử hành Thánh lễ tạ ơn và mừng kính Thánh bổn mạng của Giáo xứ vào lúc 10giờ sáng Thứ Bảy ngày 25 tháng 2 năm 2017 với ba ngôn ngữ Mỹ, Mễ và Việt. Sau Thánh lễ, Giáo xứ sẽ tổ chức tiệc mừng gây quĩ yểm trợ Giáo xứ tại Hội trường với các món ăn Mỹ, Mễ, Phi và Việt. Vé vào cửa là $15. Cho người lớn và $12. Cho các em nhỏ dưới 12 tuổi. Ngoài ra, Giáo xứ còn tổ chức thi viết văn bằng Anh ngữ cho các em viết về cảm tưởng lễ bổn mạng Thánh Polycarp với bốn giải thưởng trao tặng cho bốn em thuộc bốn sắc dân Mỹ, Mễ, Việt và Phi. Xin các em và Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa nhiệt liệt hưởng ứng và tham gia. Xin lưu ý, Giáo xứ muốn giới thiệu các nét văn hóa riêng của mỗi sắc dân trong Giáo xứ, nên khuyến khích mỗi sắc dân tham dự nên mặc y phục theo truyền thống của sắc dân mình. Do đó Cộng đoàn kêu gọi quí ông và quí bà nên mặc áo dài tham dự lễ và tiệc mừng. 9- Thông báo về việc ghi ý lễ hằng tuần.- Cộng đoàn vẫn có thông lệ ghi ý lễ trước một tuần từ khi Cha Chu Vinh quang về làm Chánh xứ. Theo ý Cha, vì để cho giáo dân sửa soạn tâm hồn trước khi đến tham dự Thánh lễ, trong đó có những ý cầu nguyện hiệp với Cha Chù Tế và Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa, người xin lễ nên ghi trước ý lễ một tuần; ngoại trừ người xin lễ cần cầu nguyện cho người mới qua đời trong tuần. Ngoài ra, để sửa soạn cho một Thánh lễ được diễn ra một cách trang nghiêm, sốt sắng, mọi thành phần phục vụ trong Thánh lễ cần phải sửa soạn và sẵn sàng trước để Thánh lễ được diễn ra không trễ giờ. Thời gian gần đây, có nhiều người đến trước lễ xin lễ và yêu cầu được rao ý lễ ngay, gây trở ngại cho những người phục vụ trong thánh lễ. Vậy từ nay, xin Cộng đoàn lưu ý: Việc xin lễ có thể gọi điện thoại trực tiếp đến người phụ trách qua số (714) 317-3589 mọi ngày trong tuần, trễ nhất là hai giờ trước giờ lễ. Bổng lễ xin đem đến người phụ trách tại bàn ghi lễ và nói rõ ý lễ đã ghi trước qua điện thoại. Hoặc nếu trực tiếp xin tại bàn ghi lễ, xin đến ghi trước 30 phút, khi Thánh lễ bắt đầu. Mọi ý lễ nếu ghi sau giờ đó, sẽ được rao trong Thánh lễ tuần sau.

THÔNG BÁO CỘNG ĐOÀN.

1- Giờ chầu Thánh Thể thinh lặng.- Xin Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa lưu ý: Giáo xứ có giờ chầu Thánh Thể thinh lặng từ 3giờ30 đến 5giờ vào mỗi chiều Thứ Bảy trong tuần. Xin kính mời Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa cùng đến tham dự giờ chầu Thánh Thể nêu trên. 2- Giờ lần chuỗi Lòng Chúa Thương Xót của Giáo xứ.- Sau Thánh lễ 8giờ30 sáng từ Thứ Hai đến Thứ Bảy trong tuần, Giáo xứ có lần chuỗi Lòng Chúa Thương Xót bằng tiếnh Mỹ, và vào lúc 3giờ chiều mỗi ngày, Cộng đoàn có lần chuỗi Lòng Chúa Thương Xót bằng tiếng Việt tại Thánh đường. Kính mời Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa cùng tham dự. 3- Buổi họp của Ban Giúp lễ của Giáo xứ.- Giáo xứ sẽ có buổi họp đặc biệt dành cho các em Giúp lễ và phụ huynh vào lúc 6giờ30 tối Thứ Ba ngày 31 tháng 1 năm 2017 tại Thánh đường. Xin Quí phụ huynh và các em giúp lễ lưu ý và cùng đến tham dự. 4- Đoàn Liên Minh Thánh Tâm và Hội Các Bà Mẹ Công Giáo sinh hoạt.- Đoàn Liên Minh Thánh Tâm và Hội Các Bà Mẹ Công Giáo của Cộng đoàn sẽ có buổi sinh hoạt hằng tháng vào lúc 2giờ chiều Chúa Nhật ngày 5 tháng 2 năm 2017 tại phòng họp thường lệ. Kính mời quí Đoàn viên và Hội viên đến tham dự đông đủ. 5- Giờ chầu Thánh Thể Thứ Sáu đầu tháng.- Thứ Sáu ngày 3 tháng 2 năm 2017 là ngày Thứ Sáu đầu tháng. Cộng đoàn có mở cửa Nhà Tạm và chầu Thánh Thể lúc 3giờ chiều, cùng với giờ lần chuỗi Lòng Chúa Thương Xót. Sau đó lúc 6giờ chiều có chầu Thánh Thể và đền tạ Thánh Tâm Chúa, 6giờ30 Thánh lễ. Kính mời Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa sắp xếp thời gian tham dự. 6- Buổi sinh hoạt của Liên Nhóm Cursillo.- Liên Nhóm Cursillo của Cộng đoàn có buổi sinh hoạt hằng tháng vào lúc 2giờ30 chiều Chúa Nhật ngày 12 tháng 2 năm 2017 tại phòng họp thường lệ. Kính mời quí anh chị Cursillistas tham dự. 7- Giờ lần chuỗi Mân Côi kỷ niệm 100 năm Đức Mẹ hiện ra tại Fatima.- Để hòa nhập với Giáo hội hoàn vũ cùng tổ chức mừng kỳ niệm 100 năm Đức Mẹ hiện ra tại Fatima, nước Bồ Đào Nha năm 1917, Cộng đoàn sẽ tổ chức lần chuỗi Mân Côi vào các ngày 13 trong tháng, kể từ tháng 11 năm 2016 đến tháng 10 năm 2017. Giờ lần chuỗi được thực hiện tại Đài Đức Me vào lúc 7giờ tối, nếu là ngày thường; và sau Thánh lễ, nếu vào ngày Thứ Sáu, Thứ Bảy hoặc Chúa Nhật. Giờ lần chuỗi lần thứ tư được

Bây giờ chúng ta hãy dành thời gian để tìm hiểu về ngài, vị Mục tử của Giáo Hội. Thánh Polycarp là một trong những đệ tử trực tiếp của các Thánh Tông Đồ, đặc biệt là Thánh Gioan, Tông Đồ Thánh Sử. Ngài là một vị Giám Mục trẻ của Giáo phận Smyrna (nay là Izmir, Thổ Nhĩ Kỳ). Ngài rất được kính trọng bởi các tín hữu, đã viết nhiều thư và đào tạo ra nhiều thánh đệ tử. Trong đó có thư ngài viết cho giáo đoàn Philipphê, Maxêđônia - lá thư duy nhất được bảo tồn - đã thể hiện đời sống tông đồ của Ngài, với sự khiêm nhường sâu sắc và hiền lành, và với lòng bác ái tuyệt vời của ngài.
