FAMILY FAITH MOMENTS
In this first full week of Lent, we look at the Lenten tradition of prayer. For many of us, we have special times of
prayer. But the Bible calls us to “never cease praying” (1Thes 5:17). Prayer is an expression of our relationship with
God and the world around us. It might be praying the rosary, quiet meditation, reading scripture, but it might also
be appreciating a work of art, watching a sunrise, feeding birds in winter, or enjoying our children at play. When
we see all of life as a prayer, then prayer will be as much a part of our life as breathing. Lent offers us a special
time to reexamine our prayer life.
Passing along the traditions of the Church to the next generation. This Sunday’s Gospel tells us that Jesus went to
the desert where he prayed and fasted for 40 days. Develop a “desert place” in your home. Choose a place
where the family or individuals can go to pray, think, or read in total quiet and privacy. On a small table, place a
Bible (and a children’s Bible) on a purple cloth. Add a candle, and cross and whatever makes the space more
conducive to prayerfulness for your family. Perhaps a resolution for this week could be that each family member
spends at least ten minutes a day alone in the prayer space.
FAITH FORMATION
Come and learn the stories and details behind the Biblical stories which you have heard all
your lives. We will be examining the Acts of the Apostles, which is filled with many stories
that we are all familiar with. BUT, each of those stories has details and “stories behind the
stories.” These sessions will add to your love and understanding of Scripture.
We all remember the story of Saul’s (St. Paul) conversion as he was on his way to
Damascus to arrest and persecute the Christians living there. We should all recall how Saul
was blinded and knocked to the ground and how Jesus spoke to him: “Saul, Saul, why are
you persecuting me?” The temporarily-blinded Saul was led into Damascus and in a few days he regained his
sight. He converted to Christianity and eventually became the greatest missionary in Church history. There is much
more about that story…
Why would Saul travel 150 miles from Jerusalem to Damascus to arrest Christians? There were thousands of
Christians much closer to Jerusalem.
How did the Dead Sea Scrolls relate to Saul’s conversion?
What was our religion called before it was called Christianity?
Why did Paul spend two years in Arabia after his conversion?
Sessions are held on Wednesday at 10:00 am (beginning February 28) or on Thursday at 7:00 pm (beginning on
March 1). All sessions will be held in the Ries Center at St. Peter and last 75 minutes. There is no cost, no registration.
Simply show up. Better yet, bring a friend! This is a wonderful opportunity to evangelize by inviting someone to
come to these sessions. If you have any questions, please call Joe Hand at 329-0912.
STATIONS of the CROSS
In February and March during Lent, Stations of the Cross will be held on Tuesdays at 9:00 am at St. Peter Church
and at 7:00 pm at Holy Cross Church. And Stations of the Cross will also be held on Fridays at 7:00 pm at St. Peter
Church.
ST. PETER RINGERS
The St. Peter’s Ringers are looking for additional hand bell players to provide music
for Easter Sunday. The ability to read music is not required but preferred. Previous

233-1503 or through email at [email protected] for more information.

First rehearsal is February 28.

LENTEN DINNER and MOVIE SERIES
This Lent we will be hosting three
installments of DINNER (6:00 pm)
and a MOVIE (beginning at 7:00
pm). The first night will be on
Sunday, February 18, in the Ries
Center; no RSVP required. The
movie, “Little Boy”, is the story of
an eight-year-old boy willing to do whatever it takes to
end World War II so he can bring his father home. The
story reveals the indescribable love a father has for his
little boy and the love a son has for his father.
The second dinner and movie night is
Sunday, March 11. The featured movie
will be “The Human Experience”, the
story of a band of brothers who travel
the world in search of the answers to the
burning questions: Who am I? Who is
Man? Why do we search for meaning?
Their journey brings them into the middle of the lives of
the homeless on the streets of New York City, the
orphans and disabled children of Peru, and the
abandoned lepers in the forests of Ghana, Africa. What
the young men discover changes them forever.
The third movie is on Wednesday, March 21, and will be
held at the KROC Center in Dayton.
Lent is a time of encounter. It is a season to reflect on our
relationship with ourselves, our neighbors, and our God. It is a
time of preparation and transformation, not only providing us
with an opportunity to deepen and enrich our faith as a family
and Catholic community, but also to support our brothers and
sisters most in need around the world. Join our faith community-
and nearly 14,000 Catholic communities across the United States
in a life-changing Lenten journey of encounter with CRS Rice
Bowl. The Rice Bowl boxes will be distributed at Masses this
weekend in all churches in Region XII.
THE LIGHT is on FOR YOU
This Lent, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati
will once again engage in the initiative,
The Light Is On For You: Encounter the
Peace of Christ During the Season of Lent.
On Tuesday, February 27 from 7:00 to 9:00
pm, St. Peter along with other Catholic
Parishes and Pastoral Regions will open their doors and
provide the opportunity for private confession. If you
have been reluctant to participate in the Sacrament
of Reconciliation, have been away from the Church
for some time, or just find it difficult to get to a regularly
scheduled confession time or communal penance
service, this is a your chance to experience the
reconciling peace of Christ through the grace of the
Sacrament. No stress, just peace! Learn more at the
website encounterpeace.org. Donations will be taken for the ST. PETER FOOD PANTRY AND
ST. VINCENT DEPAUL SOCIETY.

CATECHISM CORNER Ad Jesum per Marian
by Josh Miller
“What the Catholic faith
believes about Mary is
based on what it believes
about Christ, and what it
teaches about Mary
illumines in turn its faith in
Christ” (CCC 487).
Have you ever had the experience where
you are getting to know a new friend, and
you start to notice unusual mannerisms or
quirks? Or perhaps, you are on a first date
and you wonder, “Why does he eat pizza
with a fork and knife?” or “Why does she
talk so quickly?” Then, you meet the
person's parents, and it all makes sense.
It is no secret that we bear the marks of our
parents, whether it be in appearance,
actions, or beliefs. For many people,
hearing a friend say he likes your mom’s
cooking or that she is really smart brings a
smile and joy that your friend appreciates
the woman who raised you.
Catholic’s have often been accused of
focusing on Mary to the point of forgetting
about Christ, but this couldn’t be farther
from the truth. We don't get to know Mary
because we are tired of Jesus; we get to
know Mary because we love Jesus, and
she is his mom. The more we know Mary,
the more we can know Christ.
Mary’s heroic virtue, perfect motherhood,
devout prayer, selfless sacrifices, pure
heart, and unfailing patience in the face of
depthless sorrow formed Jesus’ home life.
In his humanity, Christ needed to learn
virtue. Mary provided those lessons. Mary is
the perfect model of what it means to be
like Christ, in part, because she was Christ’s
first model of what it meant to be human.
A mother has a deep and lasting impact
on her children. Because of this close
motherly bond, God could only have had
a saint as a mother. Therefore, our Church
pours praise and petition into Mary’s lap. In
her humility, any of our time and attention
that we spend with her, Mary uses to share
with us the child whom she most loves:
Christ, the source of all holiness and joy.
Let us never forget to pray Ad Jesum per
Mariam, To Jesus through Mary.

raffle (specialty cocktail and craft beer), silent
auction baskets, photo booth, DJ and dancing, drop

Formerly known as the St. Peter Annual Spring Gala and Silent
Auction, it is one of the largest fundraisers for our school of
approximately 500 students. Last year, with the help of many
generous businesses, teachers, parents, and attendees, we raised
over $14,000! The classrooms received adaptive equipment for
students and teachers as well as STEM (Science, Technology,
Engineering, Mathematics) equipment for use this school year. This
year the money raised will again be used to enhance our STEM
Program and provide additional classroom adaptive equipment for
students and teachers to augment the learning and teaching
environment in the classroom.
Tickets are $20 a person; please contact Kathy Moorman in the
School Office 233-8710 to order your tickets. For details on the gala,
