Each fall and spring, SAGE provides eight exceptional Tuesday-morning lectures. This year, due to Covid-19, all lectures will be provided online in a webinar format. When you register for a lecture or to subscribe to the series, we will send you a link to access the webinar. And we have a special “bonus” for our subscribers: a ninth presentation by Opera Maine! You must be a member to purchase a nine-lecture subscription for $50. The cost for each individual lecture is $10; membership is not required for individual lectures but you must register four days in advance to receive an access link. September 15 – Jeanne Hulit, CEO, Maine Community Bancorp Banks: The Economy’s First Responders Jeanne, who has had both public and private sector leadership responsibilities, will discuss the role of banks in these turbulent times in Maine and beyond. September 22 – Donna Anderson, Director, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at USM Steps on the Journey of Lifelong Learning: From Academia to Museums and Back Again Donna will share what her lifelong learning experiences might suggest for the future of OLLI. September 29 – Sarah Hansen, Executive Director & Julie Larry, Director of Advocacy, Portland Landmarks Preserving & Revitalizing Greater Portland’s Remarkable Legacy of Historic Buildings, Neighborhoods, & Landscapes Sarah and Julie will discuss how Landmarks enhances our historic character through promoting preservation, adaptive reuse, and creative architecture. October 6 – Judith Shaw, Administrator of the Maine Office of Securities & Michael Desrosiers, U.S. Postal Inspector (retired), (AARP Sponsored) Points for the Good Guys: Catching and Prosecuting Maine Fraudsters While scam artists (and fraudsters) are creative, relentless, and notoriously hard to catch, sometimes the good guys really do win. October 13 – Paul Hunt, District Environmental Manager for the Portland Water District Trees, Not Treatment Paul will explain how the district supports land conservation around Sebago Lake because forested land is a natural, inexpensive form of water treatment. October 20 – Leigh Saufley, Dean, University of Maine School of Law & Harold Pachios, founding partner of the distinguished law firm of Preti Flaherty; Mr. Pachios will conduct an interview with Dean Saufley. Building on the Past to Improve our Future: Maine Law’s Plans and Aspirations October 27 – Tom Meuser, Ph.D., Director, Center for Excellence in Aging & Health, University of New England From Grandma’s Bible to the Barrel of a Gun: Life’s Objects Tell the Story Lessons from a career in teaching and practice of narrative interviewing with older adults. November 3 – Jacqueline Murray Loring, author of “Vietnam Veterans Unbroken: Conversations on Trauma and Resiliency” & Preston Hood, Vietnam veteran and poet War and Resiliency: Inspiring Accounts of Real Life Journeys Following a viewing of Federico Muchkin’s documentary film, “Hunter in the Blackness: Veteran’s Hope and Recovery,” we will hear the true stories of several Vietnam War veterans, including their tragedies and successes, their struggles and resiliency, which offer a compelling message of courage and hope to newer veterans, and to all of us. *November 10 – A Special Presentation from Maine Opera Sage Schedule Fall 2020
