50. Please feel free to list anything you feel we are doing especially well.

• New report cards, BBMM, having Dean of Students, technology

• Putting boys fi rst. We measure most of what we do against what we know to be best for boys. Secondly, we continue to grow as a school by implementing new programs and reaching out to the larger Memphis community.

• Communication between Head of School, faculty, staff, maintenance, housekeeping, security is excellent.

• Technology–web 2.0 • Lee Burns is a forward thinker and learner and excellent leading the school in the appropriate direction with he help of a great board of directors.

• I feel like we are trying to incorporate 21st century skills using new techniques and technology for our students. I feel like the BBMM virtues and classes are benefi cial.

• I feel administration does a fantastic job mediating between the teacher and parent. I consistently feel backed by my team and my administration.

• Professional Development, Project Zero, EC curriculum, parent communication, teacher and student resources • Professional Development, I think that we are doing an excellent job of preparing our boys for the future that awaits them and for the world of the 21st century. I also think we excel at allowing teachers to grow professionally, as well as encouragement and personal relationships among faculty and staff and parents. • PDS is the best place to work! I have worked other schools and they don’t hold a candle to PDS. I fell happy as soon as I walk through the doors. I couldn’t ask for a better job!

• Empower teachers, not micro-manage!

Page 30: SACS/SAIS Survey Results

30

* PDS is constantly evaluating where we are and looking at research and trends for the future. I sincerely believe that there is not a better school than PDS anywhere. I believe our administrative team is the best example of servant leadership I have ever seen. I am so proud to be a part of such a high quality institution.

• We do an amazing job at professional development, creating a boy friendly environment, and incorporating web 2.0 tools into our classrooms.

• Technology

• Creating an atmosphere of trust, relationships with boys, building boys/making men, fostering a good teaching/learning environment for both teachers and students, using and helping teachers with technolgy

• Character education is incredible at PDS. I also feel there are so many opportunities for boys to have deep thinking and to be challenged. There are so many talented teachers.

• There is a remarkable culture of professional growth and learning that runs throughout the whole school. We are hard working, ambitious (yet not arrogant), and nimble as an organization. There is an incredible team of people here who are dedicated to the Lord, these boys, and to giving the boys a wonderful education. Building Boys, Making Men is fabulous. From 21st century skills to technology integration to BBMM to teacher training, we are on the leading edge of what great schools in our country are doing.

• Becoming well prepared to prepare our boys well for the future as leaders and thinkers

• PDS always does the right thing, not necessarily the easiest thing. By doing this I think we are showing others what it means to be Christ like.

• Parent communication, public relations within the Memphis community, 21st century learning, developing intellectual and Christian character of boys

• Professional Development opportunities--exceptional, Meeting the needs of boys, Communicating with parents

• Communication with students and parents, providing extra activities for students

•We especially attend to each child in educating and addressing any needs he may have. • Technology - sometimes to the detriment of basics, Knowledge of how boys work and learn

• Continue to grow the BBMM program • Hiring responsible, creative, and diverse employees.

• Opportunites for professional development, Serving the boys • Moving forward with 21st century thinking. Redoing our report cards for the 21st century, creative and critical thinking routines in all grades.

• encouraging spiritual growth in our boys teaching them to think

• Making our educational philosophy as a school well known in the parent community

• Professional Development opportunities, Supporting us to try our ideas out in the classroom • Boys are actively engaged in their learning. Teachers integrate technology well. Information is given to parents in appropriate ways. PDS is true to its mission in helping boys become Godly men. Teachers, all departments, and those who lead them work incredibly hard all the time to make PDS a world-class school. I could go on and on......

Page 31: SACS/SAIS Survey Results

31

51. Please feel free to list anything you feel needs attention or improvement.

• At times, we are trying to do more than we can pull off with our current staffi ng. Would be nice for our division to have an assistant. It’s diffi cult to work on big picture items because of all the small things that are constantly cropping up.

• I think that a spiritual renewal day each semester is imperative to my overall spiritual and mental well being.

• Library

• Pace. We need to always be aware of the pace with which we implement new programs.

• I feel like sometimes students are rewarded or chosen for various things that don’t have behavior that is up to PDS standards. This is sending our students (as well as parents) a mixed message. • The lower school needs a leader that is more in touch with her faculty, one that responds to the needs of her faculty in a timely manner.

• Bridging the gap between EC and Elementary Division

• Insurance

• We need to stop scheduling every single second of the day for the boys, and allow them more time to be creative and dig deeper into areas in which they are interested.

• The evaluation process is helpful in many ways, but the form is VERY time consuming and stressful. I would like to suggest that after 3 positive evaluations, the “long form” is only done every 3 years. A shorter, less intensive (one page) evaluation would be done in the other years. This would free up Susan and Debbie to do other things and would immensely relieve pressure on teachers.

• I feel that we need to dedicate time for faculty fellowship. With the new early childhood building, I feel there has become a great divide amongst the faculty.

• Keeping children with learning differences and not having the staff to handle the demand.

• Library

• Need to enhance the facilities for music, art, media, science, learning, dining.

• I sometimes feel that we move from one trend or buzz word to the next too quickly without being given time to fully explore the benefi ts and to have an opportunity to fi ne tune what we have just learned. I would love more time to utilize and feel confi dent. Many times, the “new” things have new vocabulary for the teachers and students to use that are simply renamed, reworded, or changed just a little anyway. We need to continue to “remind” our parents and students who we are as a community verses who they think we are.

• Level of effi ciency, lack of support for teaching and learning, and overall atmosphere in PDS Library- we have experienced confusion, ineffi ciency, and disorganization most of the year- teachers and parents have begun to call other libraries in town to get help with books. The present library status does not refl ect well upon PDS nor does it support teaching and learning.

• Very intense environment---little time for refl ection or daily discussion with peers due to the intensity of the overall school. Little time to devote to developing an idea we are already using due to the fast pace. This has intensifi ed over the past few years. At times the boys lose the opportunity to have my time. This is frustrating. Little time for processing new ideas or new strategies.

• Working on basics, especially in lower grades. Teachers to be treated as professionals, not just employees in a business. Be able to evaluate administrators as we use to do.

• Validating everyone’s ideas and spreading out the duties/responsibilities more evenly.

• Communication still is something to always work on and improve upon, but I think it has improved over the last couple of years.

• Discipline plan needs to be revised

•While we realize that it takes very hard work and long hours to make PDS world class, we need to make sure that we are not always in a frantic pace. It’s OK to be at a frantic pace some of the time, but we need to make sure that we are not at that pace all of the time.

52. Please indicate any needs you have as a PDS employee that are not being met.

• More sleep, but that’s my problem to fi x • Support help • Weekly planning time needs to be addressed. • Insurance

• None

• My needs are being meet, but I would like for PDS to consider reevaluating our insurance plan. Having to fi ll out forms, print out EOB’s, and fax them in every time you visit a doctor is a big hassle.

• Wow...none that I can think of:) This is a great place to work and grow spiritually.

• I have insuffi cient planning time for adequate preparation of lessons. This is decreasing yearly.

• An understandable, client-friendly insurance program

• Means to be heard without being a threat to our job, like the suggestion box we use to have.

• Support with differentiated learning styles and capabilities.

• I can’t think of one thing.

• I’d like to have more planning time, but with our schedules, it’s not possible.

• Need an assistant or apprentice for second grade staff

• Insurance is too expensive
