Sacred Heart School Newsletter December 20,2019 Dear Sacred Heart Families, What a wonderful evening at Candles and Carols last night. Every year I look forward to hearing our students sing and present the Christmas story in such a moving way. All of the songs were just beautiful; our youngest Vikings were adorable! I am so grateful for this school community all the time, but especially at this time of the year, I am reminded how lucky we all are to be part of a close knit Catholic community.

Sacred Heart School Newsletter December 20,2019

Dear Sacred Heart Families,

What a wonderful evening at Candles and Carols last night.

Our Prayer Families met last Thursday and learned about St. Nicholas and Our Lady of Guadalupe, then each group made different Christmas ornaments for our lobby tree. We are very proud of our 8th graders who plan and lead these special gatherings each month!

Last weekend our 8th grade Confirmation students participated in a retreat led by NET Ministries. Students took part in small group discussion, heard witness talks from the young missionaries, had quiet prayer and reflection time and then celebrated mass together. Our Sacred Heart 8th graders are a thoughtful and respectful class--we are very proud of them. They will be Confirmed in April. Please continue to pray for them during the second half of the school year.

Last Thursday after our 1:20 dismissal, several 8th graders helped decorate our lobby tree with the ornaments our Prayer Families made earlier in the day. I love how festive our lobby looks with all the child-made ornaments! Special thank you to William, Nick, Andrew, Charlie and Emmett for helping decorate! Also thank you to Mrs. Skelly who supervised the decorating!

Last Wednesday our 7th graders participated in an afternoon of team building, reflection, small group work and individual journaling led by Dr. Christine Porter. Dr. Porter has been to Sacred Heart several times over the years and has led team building workshops for both students and staff. She has over 25 years of experience working with young people and teachers as a school counselor and clinical practitioner. It was a good opportunity for our future school leaders to think about how they want to be seen by the younger students, to pause and consider how to put our Sacred Heart values into practice, and to come together to work as a cohesive group.

Ms. Kristen Fink Principal

Seventh grade enjoyed an off-campus lunch last week. Students walked to McDonald’s and were able to visit with each other and appreciate the relaxed time together. Each junior high class had the opportunity to go with their class to McDonald’s on different days that week. It was a nice treat for everyone!

As part of their unit on viruses, the 7th grade students simulated how viruses spread through the community. Their goal was to determine who was patient zero.

Once again, as we close out 2019, I am thankful for all of the support from our parent community-we couldn’t do what we do without you! We look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday January 6, rested and refreshed.

I wish you all a blessed Christmas and a joyous New Year!
