SACRED HEART CHURCH TROY, NEW YORK

NEW TO THE PARISH – WELCOME! We are happy to have you in our community and hope that you will enjoy a truly Christian experience with us. Please call or stop by the rectory to register (518) 274-1363. This helps us for sacraments, sick calls or any other assistance you may need. Thank you!

SCRIPTURE READING REFLECTION

In listening to today’s first reading, which is a

non- continuous selection from the Proverbs of

the Old Testament, one might be tempted to

think: This is about another world! What

relevance is it for me in the 21st century? Well,

not many of us are world renowned celebrities.

Rather most of us live somewhat humdrum

everyday lives. We never make the headlines.

In doing do, do we adequately appreciate the

every-day simple virtues needed for such an

ordinary earthly existence? That is what Proverbs

is trying to bring to our attention. We are getting

toward the end of the Liturgical year, and

likewise toward the end of St. Matthew’s Gospel,

before he launches into the Passion narratives. It

is hardly surprising, therefore, that we can detect

a Scriptural focus on end times, and thus on our

individual end time. Notice the atmosphere of

repeated warnings both in the second reading

from St. Paul, and in the Gospel parable: don’t

get caught unprepared! Stay alert, stay

sober. While you may not be a celebrity in the

eyes of the world, make your life profitable in the

eyes of the Lord. What may seem humdrum to

you may well be a treasure to God, “beyond

pearls”

THANKSGIVING - We are in the process of establishing our lists for holiday assistance. If any of our parishioners are in need of a Thanksgiving dinner, please call Barbara at the rectory at 518-274-1363. Please be assured requests are completely confidential.

News from the Liturgy Committee - Things to Watch For!

We were pleased to welcome our new Music Minister, Eve Steier, at our recent meeting! The Committee members along with Father Yanas and Mark Trudeau, have set dates and times for upcoming Masses and events beginning with the a 9:00 a.m. Mass, as usual, on Thanksgiving Day, November 26th. The first Sunday of Advent is November 29th. The Christkindl Market will be held on December 5th. There will be an evening Advent Program with Father Yanas and Father Ken Doyle on December 10th. As of right now, the Advent Penance Service is set for Thursday, December 17th at 7:00 p.m. The Parish has received a donation of a nice projector that will be used with our screen and the Pro-Presenter software program to project lyrics, and prayers from the Mass proper since we cannot use our hymnals at this time. However, we do not have a laptop that we need to complete this effort. We have since received a donation of a laptop. Thank you!
