The New Testament not only advises but also demands the collegial exercis-ing of the Petrine ministry even though Peter remains the head. It is to beconsidered that the leading of the universal church by Peter is testified in the

Gospel of St. John, the Gospel which emphasises the Spirit of God strength-ening every Christian.

e ministry of Peter has to present the unity of the church, a unity to beunderstood as the unity under the Gospel.
