A word from Jamie Bennett, VP Academic Quality Academic societies are the best way for you to be a part of a group of likeminded students on your course and help each other to become experts in your academic field. LiverpoolSU exists to help all students love student life. We do this through providing and supporting course reps, sports teams, societies and events; campaigning with and on behalf of students; and offering support, employability skills, advice and information. We want our students to have the best academic, social and cultural experience Liverpool can offer. Setting up a society for your course can allow you to gain experience in the world of work alongside your peers. You can do this by organising trips to talk to professionals in your chosen subject, gaining an insight into what they do on a day- to-day basis. By doing this you can pick up some useful contacts from local businesses and organisations around the city. Organising these events will give you skills in leadership, organisation and teamwork which will benefit one another as well as yourself. This also would ensure that you support each other in assignments on you course if you’re not quite understanding something, building that relationship with your course mates could help you better your understanding of your work. This also helps you guys working together when group assignments come as you will already know how to work with each other in your society. In 2014-2015 the first Midwifery society was created at LJMU, by students for students. They have had such an impact on their members providing advice, support and even CPD accredited training days to their members and the wider student community. It was no wonder that they then went on to win academic society of the year at LiverpoolSU loves you awards. Its amazing what a few people and a lot of passion can achieve, so why not be that person on your course who inspires other to learn and develop as part of your very own academic society. Societies are also just a fun way of people getting to know one another on your course, it’s always great to have a team of people to go into a lecture together, sometimes it might become hard to be motivated to come into university and even more

Academic societies are the best way for you to be a part of a group of likeminded students on your course and help each other to become experts in your academic field.

LiverpoolSU exists to help all students love student life. We do this through providing and supporting course reps, sports teams, societies and events; campaigning with and on behalf of students; and offering support, employability skills, advice and information. We want our students to have the best academic, social and cultural experience Liverpool can offer.

Societies are also just a fun way of people getting to know one another on your course, it’s always great to have a team of people to go into a lecture together, sometimes it might become hard to be motivated to come into university and even more daunting if you’re alone so having friends by your side to motivate you is fantastic support.

Don’t forget that this needs to be student led so you decide what you meet and talk about and how to drive your future careers together.
