“Rejoice always, pray continually and give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” As most of you know Bishop Daniel Thomas has asked me to lead 2 parishes with 2 schools. I will be living in Crestline at St. Joseph’s parish and will be commuting to Bethlehem/ Shelby Sacred Heart parish beginning July 1st, 2020. I feel prepared for this new mission and I am thankful to God for this opportunity to serve his people and for the opportunity he has given me to serve all of you. I have felt at home here as I grew in holiness with all of you! My words really are limited and anything I write can’t express my gratitude to Fr. Michael and all the staff I have worked with from the parishes and school. My memories of Fremont will make me forever grateful to the Lord and inspire me in my future ministry. Ever since I can remember, goodbyes have always been tough. They have always been tough for me, because as Christians do we ever really say goodbye? Is it not our hope that we will spend eternity with one another in heaven? Yet I will be moving away from you for some time … so it is appropriate that I say “Goodbye for now!” I have learned so much in my short stay in Fremont. Though I haven’t even been assigned at St. Ann, St. Joseph and BHCS for 2 years it feels as though I have been with you for a lifetime. I say this not because my time here has dragged on (in fact, it has flown by), but I have learned a lifetime of lessons from you in such little time. I have also made a lifetime of friendships in less than 2 years here in Fremont. The life of a priest never ceases to amaze me! As I move to a new place... I can’t stress vocations to the priesthood enough. If you are thinking of the priesthood LOOK INTO THIS WONDERFUL VOCATION and please continue to pray for all priests as the demands increase due to a skeletal priesthood in our Diocese. Regardless of the challenges, we will all be victorious if we follow the divine master… Jesus Christ! May our Lord protect us and continue to bless each of us. “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!” Thank you, Fr. Jeff Smith

Our next Rosary Walk will be on Saturday, July 4th. We will begin/meet at the Celtic Cross in the St. Ann section of cemetery at 7:30 a.m. All are welcome! Both Parishes have openings for Mass Intentions and Sanctuary Candle Donations. If you would like to remember a loved one, celebrate a special occasion, or lift a specific intention, these are great ways. Please call either Parish Office for more information. During the Coronavirus shutdown, Masses were said for the intentions given and sanctuary candles were still lit for the given intention. Bishop Thomas has asked all parishes in the diocese to remind the faithful that due to the COVID pandemic, we are not to be taking Communion to the homebound. Please respect the safety and wellbeing of all. St. Ann and St. Joseph Catholic Parishes are grateful for everyone’s continued generosity. We continue to accept collection envelopes at Masses and in the Parish Offices, we have the ability for automatic (at no cost) electronic giving (ACH), and we accept donations on our website. Thanks for your support!

Our feature this week is a younger member of St. Joseph, Ethan Grahl! He is 12 yrs old and going into 7th grade. You probably recognize him from seeing him serve often at weekend and funeral Masses and occasionally lecturing with his dad, Paul. Ethan is the 3rd of the 5 Grahl kids (Morgan, Brandon, Logan, and

Owen) and is a great big brother to the youngest two boys. He enjoys playing basketball, Xbox, fishing with his Grandpa Grahl, and spending time with his family. Ethan is well known for being very caring, thoughtful and always willing to help out at any time. During his summer break he has been helping his dad do renovations around the house and has been learning a lot. His favorite subjects in school are Math and Science. The Grahl Family often calls him “Father Ethan” because he loves his faith so much and really knows his Religion so well that his older siblings ask him for answers to things! Thank you, Ethan, for your awesome witness to Jesus’ love and for being such a joyful part of our church family! Keep up the inspiring work!

Don’t fear the cross. God is our Father and He always matchers it to our strength; from it oozes the divine Blood which regenerates us and is the fount of all the joys reserved for us above. Ah, do you see that it’s true that misfortunes and crosses bring us ever closer to God? Pain draws us to Him in such a way that compared to divine consolation, the comfort and help of creatures is eclipsed and all their wounds, as good, charitable, and kind as they are, are almost useless and cold to us and leave an emptiness in our soul. We need God alone, He alone knows the secret for comforting our battered heart, and in Him alone will we always find the true comfort for our ills. Sometimes prayer will seem difficult to you; but now that your heart is wounded, you feel the need for this gentle balm which alone can stop the blood that flows from it; isn’t it really like this? Then abandon yourself trustingly to Jesus; suffering, bathed with tears, has great power over that tender and most living Heart…. The Heart of Jesus will be with you, no doubt, and someday He will repay a hundredfold what you have suffered for Him. Be cheerful then and know that every new opportunity to suffer is money with which you can buy a little peace and comfort and special graces for your own soul, in the trials and struggles which will accompany you until death.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM: Forever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.

1. Church of God, elect and glorious, holy nation, chosen race;

called as God’s own special people, royal priests and heirs of grace:

know that purpose of your calling, show to all God’s mighty deeds;

tell of love which knows no limits, grace which meets all human needs.

2. God has called you out of darkness

into his most marv’lous light, brought his truth to life within you, turned your blindness into sight.

Let your light so shine around you that God’s name is glorified;

and all find fresh hope and purpose in Christ Jesus crucified.

4. Church of God, elect and holy, be the people he intends;

strong in faith and swift to answer each command your master sends:

royal priests, fulfill your calling through your sacrifice and prayer;

give your lives in joyful service, sing his praise, his love declare.

Sent Forth By God’s Blessing

1. Send forth by God’s blessing, our true faith confessing, The people of God from his dwelling take leave.

God’s sacrifice ended, O now be extended The fruits of this Mass in al hearts who believe.

The seed of Christ’s teaching, our inner souls reaching, Shall blossom in action for God and for all.

His grace shall incite us, his love shall unite us To further God’s kingdom and answer his call.

With praise and thanksgiving, to God who is living,

The tasks of our ev’ryday life we embrace. Our faith ever sharing, in love ever caring.

We claim as our neighbor all those of each race. One bread that has fed us, one light that has led us

Unite us as one in his life that we share. Then may all the living with praise and thanksgiving

Give honor to Christ and his name that we bear.
