The entertainment world according to Jess MOVIES / MUSIC / READS / REVIEWS @gf_jess the lit list fright night I hope you’re loving Girlfriend ’s ~fresh~ new look! So first, let me give you the lowdown on our new and improved entertainment section, now dubbed ‘Fan Club’, where I’ll be giving you a more personalised entertainment experience – basically anything I’m vibing on at the moment. And this month I’m vibing hard on Halloween! It’s my fave day of the year, even more than my b’day or Christmas, because nothing’s better than having a day that’s dedicated to watching horror flicks and dressing in freaky outfits! Hit me on Twitter (@jesskalynch) with bands, movies, shows anything – you’re loving and think I should jump on board with. I’ll check it out and might even feature it in the next issue of Girlfriend. Catch y’all on the flip side! Stranger Things If you haven’t got on the hype train that’s Stranger Things yet, do it immediately, it’s so worth it. Admittedly I was late to jump on this bandwagon, but take it from me you’ll likely end up binge watching the entire season in one sitting – because like Pringles, once you pop, you can’t stop. Insidious A family move into a new home, and of course freaky sh*t starts going down, like doors opening by themselves and weird creaking noises coming from inside the house – all that terrifying stuff that would have had me NOPE-ing out of there quick smart. Soon after, their son goes into an inexplicable comatose state and becomes possessed by demonic beings – and that’s when it really starts getting cray. Sharknado OK – so it’s more absurdly hilarious than scary, but if you feel like watching a cult flick that’ll have you laughing at the sheer ridiculousness of it, this is totally the film for you. Because honestly, you really can’t get more ridiculous than a movie that’s about a tornado filled with sharks… a.k.a. a sharknado. Scream Based on the epic ‘90s slasher film franchise, the TV show adaption follows the more modern storyline of a YouTube vid that goes viral and is the catalyst for a bunch of murders by a mysterious killer (the creepy guy in a mask) who is after the teenagers (obvs) of Lakewood, leading to the discovery of the town’s sordid, murder-y past. Orphan A couple want another child, so they head to the orphanage to adopt a daughter. They end up drawn to a strange Russian girl called Esther and are like, “Yep, let’s take this one.” BAD. MOVE. I won’t spoil it, but it gets VERY freaky. For anyone who knows me IRL, you’d be aware that Halloween is totally my jam. There’s not much that makes me happier in life than dressing up to look as wild as poss and scaring the little kids on my street when they ring the doorbell. Just kidding! (Or am I… ?) Anyway, here’s a bunch of freaky flicks and shows that are available on Netflix rn that’ll have you sleeping with the lights on this Halloween. Muahaha! WHAT’S HOT THIS MONTH Stealing Snow DANIELLE PAIGE In this totally fresh twist on The Snow Queen fairytale, Snow is a chick who’s spent most of her life in a mental institution. Enter a ~muy~ mysterious and handsome new orderly and some cray-cray dreams about a tree (stay with me here), and she soon realises she must GTFO of Whittaker Institute like, ASAP. Once she makes her great escape, the lines between reality and fantasy begin to blur, and a huge fam secret is spilled. Pretty wild stuff. The Sims 4: City Living Are you all ’bout that city life? Then this is totally for you. Take your Sims to the city and explore everything it has to offer, from new neighbourhoods to festivals, and everything in between. You even start off with your own little apartment and if you’re savvy enough you can work your way up to a ballin’ penthouse that would make Kimye jel. OUT ON PC AND MAC NOVEMBER 3. Imagine This FOREVER ENDS HERE OK, so I *might* be a tad biased because the boys are buddies of mine, but I’m legit impressed with their latest tunes. Having developed their sound into what I’d describe as super catchy pop-punk, the Sydney locals continue to up their music game – so much so that they just wrapped up an insane national tour supporting Canadian rockers Simple Plan! It doesn’t get much cooler than that tbh. IMAGINE THIS IS OUT NOW. Forever Young: The Story of Troye Sivan ALANA WULFF Here at GF we can’t get enough of the amazingly talented YouTuber/singer/superstar Troye Sivan, so when we found this awesome read we HAD to have it. Following his road to success, Forever Young is filled with detailed info on Troye’s life, along with exclusive interviews and even a pullout poster (yasss!).
