Big Bear trip news:
The Snowdrifters will be
adding a Big Bear trip this
year. Those of us who have
been around long enough may
remember the weekday trips
to the resort. The trips were a
great break in the middle of
the week for our members to
ski the closest ski resort to
San Diego. Single day trips
are also less expensive than
the three-day trips and require
much less planning.
XTC Tours will provide
the trip travel for the first Big
Bear trip to determine club
support for the mid-week trips.
The cost last year was $116,
this year the cost is TBD (Lift
ticket and transportation will
be included in the price.)
The date for the Big
Bear trip has not been set yet
so talk it up with your friends
and family. We already have a
number of people who want to
go. I will keep the club updat-
ed on the status of the trip
schedule and pricing. I will
also provide a map to the
pickup points.
Here is the Itinerary:
A deluxe bus pickup at 5:30am
at 5770 Morehouse Drive at
one of the Qualcomm build-
ings off Mira Mesa Blvd.
A second pick-up in Escondido
at the North Broadway park
and ride lot #11 off Lincoln
Parkway will be scheduled if
there are anyone from North
County. The bus leaves the
mountain at 4pm and will
arrive in SD around 8pm. The
bus will provide a cold bever-
age and a Subway deli meal
(extra $) while a movie will be
played on the return trip.
The Big Bear trips were an early part of our club and provided our members with great skiing entertainment. I realize that not everyone can
make a mid-week trip but please take time and let me know if you are interested in the concept ([email protected]).

Summer Meetings were a great success !!
The Snowdrifter's Ski & Board Club had
their summer General Meetings outdoors at beau-
tiful Presido Park off I-8 and I-5 overlooking the
Bay, sorta on August 11th and September 8th.
The location was perfect for our summer meet-
ings. Tree shrouded, uncrowded and on two
warm and breezy summer Friday late afternoons
and early evenings. The meet-up started about
4-something as the early arrivals began to show
up to chat and have a refreshment or two. Dinner
was served at 5:30.
The August meeting featured hot dogs/
buns and condiments supplied by the Club and
cooked by the Club's very own VP Barry with
ample help from his numero-uno lifemate, Nora
Lee. The membership supplied the sides and to-
share dishes including potato and macaroni
salad, leafy salads, snacks, fresh fruit and
scrumptious desserts. The September meeting
supplied a main dish which featured home-made
Italian spaghetti and meatballs produced from the
famous Cook's kitchen of Nora Lee Cole with help
from the ever-helpful husbono. The attending
members supplied Garlic Bread, Caesar Salad,
other salads, fresh fruit and, again, some awe-
some desserts. Libations, as usual, were supplied
by the Club and included red & white wine, regu-
lar & lite beers, sodas and water; all in cans and
plastic in keeping with the Park's requirement that
no glass containers be used. After dinner was
served, President Nick Cowell brought everyone
up to date with the Board of Director's most recent
plans for the fall and winter seasons.
August and September had good turnouts
with many of the regulars and a few new member-
ship "candidates" and a few past members taking
another look. We had close to 50 folks in attend-

ance in August and a few less in September. If
you did not join us, for whatever reason, try to
join us in October, as we go indoors for our
winter meetings, beginning with the Mammoth
sign-up meeting on October 11th at Filippi’s in
Kearny Mesa.
Hope to see you there.

Many of our Snowdrifter members use our
website as a means of keeping up with our
club’s activities and news. Don’t forget we also
have a Facebook page. Facebook is a great way
to keep up with friends and other members.
You can post mes-
sages and update
the club on activities
and ideas.

So are you looking to go away for a long
weekend to Mammoth Mountain and not have to
worry about driving, or cooking and just looking
forward to going skiing and have some time to
relax with some good friends and great food, hop
on one of the 4 trips to Mammoth and the only
thing you would need to do is bring some clothes,
and sunscreen. If you don’t have ski equipment
no worries, Mammoth Mountain has a great
selection of equipment to rent. If you don’t know
how to ski, there are plenty of other things to do,
like snowshoeing or hiking up at Tamarack, snow
mobiling, beer tasting, shopping and you can
even get a massage.
We stay in nicely appointed 4 bedrooms/3
baths condos at Chateau Sans Nom which is on
the City bus line. Our trips leave on Thursday
night at 5:00 pm and come back on Sunday night
usually by 11:00 pm. We have two pickups. One
off the Highway 805 at Governor drive and the
other one off the Highway 15 off El Norte. Both
have park and rides where you can leave your
car for the weekend. So for $350 per trip, come
and join us and make some wonderful memories.

Joint Happy Hour - North Island & Action Ski
Clubs
Many members of NI & Action Ski Clubs
met at the new Stone Brewery in Liberty Station
for a joint get-together to enjoy friendship & liba-
tions. Over 65 club members joined together for
this event. Many ordered delicious meals and
snacks from the exotic menu.
We had so much fun that we are planning
to get-together again in October.

If a trip goes full, a canceling member may request consideration for a partial refund from the North Island Snowdrifters Executive Board in writ-ing within 14 days from the start of the trip. The Board may not grant a refund if a trip does not generate enough income to cover the trip.
If a canceling member finds a substitute who is able to accept the bed assignment and any monetary exchange is made outside the club, the substitution will not be considered a cancellation.
Any other consideration for a partial refund must be made in writing within 14 days from the start of the trip by writing the Travel Director and the North Island Snowdrifter’s Executive Board. As stated above the Board may not grant a refund if a trip does not generate enough income to cover the trip.
