WELCOME TO HOLY INFANT PARISH

Welcome to all who have come to pray with us on this 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time. We're delighted to have you with us and hope that you find a warm welcoming community here at Holy Infant Parish. May we gratefully accept this day as a special gift from our Lord and an opportunity to draw closer to Him. Please call us at the Parish Office, (636) 227-7440, if we can be of help to you or if you would like to become a member of our parish.

MEN AND WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY

Come, spend one hour on Tuesday mornings deepening your appreciation for God’s word with the Men and Women’s Bible Study. We meet every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. for one hour in the Holy Infant Room during the school year. Using the Ignatius Catholic Bible Study Guide, books from the Bible are read. This year we will read from the Book of Daniel. The Guide has the Bible passages in the top half of the page, so there is no need to bring your own Bible. It also contains commentaries, explanations of the biblical text and historical notes.

At the end of every chapter, there are discussion questions that deepen your understanding as well as questions that give you an opportunity to apply the spiritual learnings and insights into your life.

The cost is $8.00 for the book. There is no need to register or make a long term commitment, just show up any Tuesday—next week or next month!

“FRIENDS OF PRIESTS” PRAYER CAMPAIGN

The Friends of Priests Prayer Campaign for all priests, deacons, seminarians, and consecrated religious will begin on Sunday, October 2 and end on Thursday, December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

All parishioners are invited to sign a pledge to pray ten Hail Marys each day from October 2 through December 8. The completed pledge sheets will be presented in book form at the 5 p.m. Mass on Saturday, December 10, at the Cathedral Basilica. All are welcome to attend.

A binder with forms for signing your pledge can be found in the Church vestibule. Please pray for our priests, deacons and consecrated religious who so generously serve our Archdiocese.

DYNAMIC CATHOLIC, ALIVE! archstl.org/dynamic

A little faith can go a long way—sometimes that small first step is a giant leap forward toward salvation and eternal life. Think of all the occasions in which Jesus says “your faith has saved you” even after a simple word or gesture that expressed the tiny faith beginning to grow in one of His disciples. Can we take that important first step toward deeper knowledge and love of Christ? (CCC 186, 2607-2615)

CHRIST RENEWS HIS PARISH

The following women will be presenting the Women’s CRHP retreat on October 15/16. Please keep them in your prayers.

Wendy Buehrig Doreen Gilliam Andi Martin Angie Trost Chrissy Chilton Shannon Goodson Sarah Poulos Kim Waller Tammy Eilers Stephanie Lombard Renee Rogles Ann Wittman

It’s not too late to join them. This is a great opportunity to renew your relationship with Christ and to connect with other parishioners. For information call Andi at (314) 406-0417 or email [email protected]. To volunteer to help, please call Amy at (314) 603-3089 or email [email protected].

STEPHEN MINISTRY

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 Jesus wants us to love and care for one another. That’s why Holy Infant established the Stephen Ministry program. Stephen Ministry is a ministry in which people with special gifts for caring can offer these gifts to you or someone you know who could use a special friend. To request a Stephen Minister or for more information, call Mary Emke, (636) 227-3820.

MASS INTENTIONS “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest…”

Matthew 11:28

Dear Parishioners,

I would like to invite all in our community who have experienced the loss of a loved one to attend a special Mass of Remembrance which will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 30th in honor of all our faithful departed. We are taking this time to give thanks for the lives of our loved ones. Moving through a time of loss can be difficult, lonely and sad. We want those who have experienced loss to know that as part of our Holy Infant family, we mourn with them.

This Mass of Remembrance gives us an opportunity, as a spiritual family, to join together in prayer, to ask for healing, and to give thanks for the lives of those who have gone before us in faith.

If you or someone you know, would like to attend this special Mass, we will prepare a candle which will be presented during this celebration. The candle is a symbol of our baptism into the resurrection of Jesus Christ and is a reminder to us that we have the hope of eternal life. We would like to place the names of those we are remembering on the candles, so we ask those who would like a candle to fill out the form at the end of this column and place it in the collection basket or simply drop it by the parish office. If you are not able to attend, we will be happy to include the name of your loved one to be read during the Mass.

I hope many will consider attending this Memorial celebration. It can be a time of healing and comfort. May the Lord continue to give strength, encouragement, and solace to all who have experienced loss.

Please fill out the form below and return it to the parish office, through the collection basket, or by dropping it off before October 14. This will help us plan for the Mass. Thank you.

God’s blessing for a great week,

Mass of Remembrance October 30 12 Noon

(Please print) Name of Deceased:

HEAL BROKEN RACE RELATIONS THROUGH JN17 BIBLICALLY BASED SMALL GROUPS

Holy Infant’s Adult Faith Formation Committee is partnering with neighboring parishes this fall to host a series of small group discussions on healing broken race relations in St. Louis.

JN17 is a biblically-based, multi-ethnic training that guides participants to develop deep and enduring cross-cultural relationships essential for racial reconciliation and healing. It is based on John 17, in which Jesus prayed that His followers would be one, even as He and the Father are one.

Small groups will meet in Holy Infant’s upper cafeteria for eight weeks, beginning Sunday, October 23 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. to discuss and share experiences in life, based on the topics in the manual, The Christian Life Primer. This program was developed by the St. Louis Reconciliation Network. For information, call Kathie Hanneke at (314) 704-2350. To register, email [email protected].

TOOTSIE ROLL DRIVE

The Knights of Columbus will be handing out Tootsie Rolls and collecting donations for the developmentally disabled this weekend. The money goes to the Developmental Center at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital as well as other local charities who assist those with developmental challenges. Thank you for your support.

PRAYER SHAWLS

The Prayer Shawl Ministry will have Prayer Shawls on display in the church lobby after the weekend Masses on October 22 and 23. Please plan to stop by to learn more about this wonderful ministry and pick up a Prayer Shawl for someone who would benefit from it. There is no charge. Love offerings for buying yarn and fleece are always appreciated.

Please share your generous and caring spirit, that is an attribute of Holy Infant parishioners, by participating in an hour of prayer on Saturday, October 15th, the adopted day for our parish to pray in front of Planned Parenthood. Any hour of prayer that is convenient for you from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

It is a peaceful, legal hour of prayer that is such a strong witness of our faith and prayerful presence for the unborn babies that has many times touched the hearts and minds of many moms and dads and saved a baby's life—in fact, more than 800 women have changed their minds since 2011 and had their baby.

When you participate and give an hour in prayer, you are joining more than 4,500 people of different faiths and backgrounds!

This is truly a chance to make a difference, when so many times we feel like I'm only one person, what can I do?

We are signing up prayer volunteers in the church lobby this weekend; the second sign-up weekend will be on October 8-9.

We have all been so blessed and given so much, won't you please prayerfully consider an hour of prayer on October 15th to help an unborn child have a chance at life!

If you need more information about the 40 Days for Life Campaign or about carpooling, please call

Linda Thien at (636) 225-9197.
