So once again we’re looking forward to what we hope will be the biggest and best Rustic Fayre to date: as this is the Rotary Club’s twentieth we must be doing something right, come along and judge for yourself,

Preparations for this Year’s Fayre, our twentieth, have been well under way since January and before.

Now, as the big day draws near, all thoughts are turning to the hope that we’ll enjoy a fine, dry afternoon - perhaps the start of an “Indian Summer”

Our arena is again full of local favourites, with a main attraction of Trick Cyclists - - or with a name like “MAD” should it be psychiatrists? The Archers, Classic Vehicles, the Relate Bake-Off competition are all on board, and more stalls than ever will be there vying for your pennies. You may have been offered a travelling balloon by our local Cricket Club; the Balloon Race will set off around 5pm making a colourful finalé in the arena. We will of course have to advise the RAF of the balloon release, in case it impedes the expected fly-past of a vintage Spitfire accompanied by a Hurricane, how rustic is that?!! We did ask about a Lancaster, famous for the “Dambusters” raid, but they said we’d have to be content with the damn Spitfire - you can’t win ‘em all! Verwood Rotary Club has gone from strength to strength over recent years with membership now touching thirty (people that is – unfortunately not years!) and among that number we’re pleased to welcome Louisa, our first lady member. But even with our increased “squad” we could not put on such a popular event without the stalwart support of many organisations and individuals, and as ever, my sincere thanks go ALL of you. ur Verwood Rotary President, and local dentist, Anthony Inman has chosen “Dentaid” as his charity during this presidential year. “Dentaid”

is one of the UK’s leading oral health charities, and has

supported around 260 projects in 60 countries around the world. This ranges from supplying freshly refurbished dental equipment to sending out volunteers to provide hands-on dental care.

As part of his initiative Anthony plans to spend ten days in Uganda providing dental treatment and, just as important for the long term, training and mentoring local health care professionals. He will take with him a “Dentaid” box which contains all the equipment needed to provide basic dental care in remote places. We’re pleased to be able to display a “Dentaid” box which will be set up in the Rotary Marquee at this year’s Rustic Fayre. Do pay him a visit, and give him your support.

We have moved from the recently closed Verwood Leisure Centre and now operate our classes out of Verwood Hub on a Sunday from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. This session is open to anybody. The Thursday sessions start at 5.30pm to 6.30pm for the Little Tigers from 4 to 7 year olds, then we do our mixed family/ beginner session from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Thursday’s venue is Verwood Parish Hall next to

St Michaels Church. The two venues work well and the classes are running as normal.

We recently had a club grading test and we had over 100 students

going for their various grades. Congratulations to all who took part in the busy weekend grading.We also had some of our students attend a national Black Belt Grading in Bristol. There were six successful First Degree Black Belts. Congratulations to Eloise Arkell, Gabby Jung, Steffi Jung,

Elliott King, Aimee Phillips and Samuel Powell. Well done to all of you who achieved your First Dan Black Belts. The classes we run currently suit anybody from 4 to 84! We truly have an amazing mixture of people and anyone can achieve black belts with a little dedication and commitment.
