Christmas Fayre
Project
At Selly Oak Nursery, we encourage the children to think about
making or creating things that we can sell. Every year, Selly Oak
Nursery School holds a Christmas Fayre in order to raise money for
the School Economy. We talked to the children about what we could
sell at our Christmas Fayre, and they came up with some wonderful
ideas. With adult support, we talked about selling jam jars filled
with exciting surprises such as small toys, hair accessories, sweets,
stationary etc. We asked the children’s families for help in filling
some empty jam jars in order to raise money to purchase resources
for the school.
We closed the Nursery for half a day in order to transform the
Nursery into a Christmas Fayre. We asked parents to volunteer to
set up the various stalls such as bric a brac, tombola, international
food and our Jam Jar stall. Here are some of the photos
This boy wanted to win a Jam Jar, so he paid 50p to the girl
who was helping on the Jam Jar stall, and she gave him three
raffle tickets. He had the correct number and won a Jam Jar
with lots of surprises.

children purchasing second hand toys
Here are some more photographs of parents and
the children enjoying all the exciting activities
that took place at the Fayre.

After the Fayre had finished, the children were given
the opportunity to look at the money they had raised
from the sale of the Jam Jars. They looked at the
coins and talked about what they would like to purchase
with the money. With a little adult support, they
decided that they would like to buy a new mat for their
group corner. Here are some of the photos of the
children looking at the coins. (Currently, we are waiting
for the sales in the shops in order to purchase the mat!)
