Russound Catches Fire in Customers Home

ARussound CAV6.6whole-house audio controller installed in my home started on fire ARussound CAV6.6whole-house audio controller installed in my home started on fire and except for a fluke of timing and some quick work with a fire extinguisher, could have burned down my house and killed my family. I was truly surprised that relatively expensive home electronics like the Russound CAV could burst into flames. With all the regulation and focus on safety these days, I thought units of this type from well known manufacturers like Russound were virtually fireproof.

Russound My Home, Its On Fire!As my wife approached the basement stairway, she could already see the smoke coming up from downstairs. I awoke to her screams as she saw the burning unit and tried to awaken our son Ryan, who was sleeping about 20 feet from the fire.

As I entered the basement, it was dark with smoke, although the burning Russound CAV6.6 was easy to spot with the flames visible through the vents in the cabinet. Rather than run for a fire extinguisher first, I pulled out all the connecting cables from the unit. Flames shot out the back of the unit as more capacitors exploded and as I yanked the cables free.

The Fire In The Russound Is Out!

First there was a feeling of joy knowing the family and pets were out of the house and the fire was extinguished. Then a cold empty feeling started to sink in. We wondered how this could have happened and how close we came to losing our house or maybe even our lives. Although there was no burn damage to the house, the smoke smell was so severe I sent the family out to a movie, shopping and dinner while I opened every door and window to clear the smoke.

Russound CAV-As a Precursor to the Letter Below To TUV Rheinland Every time Russound said their CAV unit was safe because it was tested by or listed by somebody, I would send an email to that somebody like the one I sent to TUV Rheinland on September 8th, 2003. I was truly impressed with the overall response I received from the testing community. They were willing to talk openly with me even before we were sure they were not the testing company. More than one of these people I talked to recommended I contact the Consumer Product Safety Commission about my Russound CAV unit and someone even sent a CPSC brochure was even sent to my house.

Russound CAV6.6 that Caught Fire

These are the pictures that I attached to the emails I sent to Mr. Mario Espinal. Asking if they are not curious what caused the melted and charred RCA jacks? Is it not their obligation to investigate further if they have reason to believe that conclusions drawn by Russound are false? For more information please visit: http://itsonfire.org/
