Balance

The first photograph shows the rule of balance because

the trees on each side balance each other out. The

second photograph breaks the rule because there’s

nothing to balance the light on the left side.

Avoiding Mergers

The first picture illustrates the avoiding mergers rule

because the bottoms of the trees are not cropped off.

The second picture breaks the rule because parts of the

trash can are cropped out.

Framing

Framing is demonstrated in the first photo because the

fruit roll up wrapper serves as a frame. The second

picture lacks framing because there is nothing eye-

catching in the foreground or the background.

Lines

The first photograph shows lines because the chairs

create many diagonal lines, making the picture

dynamic. There are no lines in the second picture

because it’s not at a good angle.

Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds is illustrated in the first photo because

the construction worker is at the upper left of the picture

instead of the center. The second picture breaks the

rule of thirds because the flower is in the center.

Simplicity

Simplicity is demonstrated in the first picture because

the flower is the main focus. In the second photo the

fence and the light are too distracting and take away

from the picture.
