eLAN™

Open, flexible access to all substation and distribution devices, from any authorized user or application Protocol conversion/normalization Powerful automation processor

RuggedCom’s eLAN™ product family solves a wide range of communications and data integration issues, from the substation to the control center and into the enterprise. The eLAN™ family of products is based on the Linux operating system and includes the Substation Communications Server, Universal DNP Gateway and Front End Processor. Each product is focused on a specific application within the utility’s communication infrastructure. The eLAN™ Substation Communications Server addresses the utility’s need for accessing IED data from a number of control center and enterprise applications.

eLAN™ Substation Communications Server Overview

The eLAN™ SCS typically resides in the substation and has a direct connection to all IEDs. It provides a single point of access over a Wide Area Network (WAN), or modem connection (dial-up or leased-line). The strength of the eLAN™ SCS lies in its ability to support multiple, concurrent host interfaces; each getting the specific data it needs. For example, from a particular relay, SCADA data may be sent to the EMS, using a SCADA protocol; a different subset of data may go to a historian, such as PI or eDNA, and fault files may be automatically extracted and distributed to interested users.

Substation Communications Server Hardware

Features Substation-hardened hardware platform Up to 24 Ports in a single 1U chassis 48 or 130 VDC power supply C37.90 hardening on all I/O

CrossBow™

Transparent access to IEDs from any software application Blocking and logging of specified IED commands Meets NERC standards for cyber security

CrossBow™ is a proven Secure Access Management solution designed to provide NERC CIP compliant access to Intelligent Electronic Devices. The CrossBow™ Station Access Controller complements the product family by providing a solution at the substation for managing local IED access, while maintaining stringent security methodologies in line with NERC CIP compliance and industry best practices. This allows the CrossBow™ product to further enhance productivity gains for administrators and users while achieving full NERC compliance in managing, securing and reporting on remote access. When used in combination, the CrossBow™ Secure Access Manager and Station Access Controller form an integrated, comprehensive solution with a seamless configuration environment.

CrossBow™ Overview

RuggedCom’s CrossBow™ application addresses the need of utilities to interactively access remote field IEDs, for maintenance, configuration, and data retrieval. Crossbow™ allows an IED maintenance application to remotely communicate with its associated IEDs, as if the user were directly connected to the IED via a serial cable or network connection. User access is governed by the appropriate authentication model (e.g. RSA) and all user activity is logged and reported per the NERC CIP specification.

Features Individual user accounts and access permissions High level of automation for device management

(e.g. passwords, firmware and configurations) Support for IED polling applications (e.g. SEL 5040) Supports wide range of remote gateways and servers
