Mr. Law Yu Wing was injured during work and hadsevere burn injuries to the face, the upper body and bothhands since 15 years ago. He received very intensivemedical and rehabilitation programme, and wasparticularly impressed by the contribution of the reha-bilitation professionals. Mr. Law is very enthusiastic involuntary services for burn rehabilitation. He is now thechairman of the burn patients self help group (Prince ofWales Hospital). In 2001, Mr. Law donated $380,000 toour department, to develop a joint research and serviceprogramme in the Department of RehabilitationMedicine, Nanjing Medical University, China. A burnrehabilitation unit was set up there to provide a com-prehensive rehabilitation programme for patients withburns injuries, and to support a clinical study in scarmanagement for these patients in Nanjing. At present, his donation has facilitated more than 100 burn patientsin poverty to receive rehabilitation services free ofcharge. Our research project titled “A prospectiverandomized clinical trial to compare the effectiveness ofpressure therapy, silicone gel sheeting and combinedtreatment on post burn hypertrophic scar”, also gainedhis support to be conducted in China with fruitfulresults. Being an alumni of our University, Mr. Law notonly supports our research activities through hisgenerous donation, but also helps us to extend ourservices and development in China. Our hats to Mr. Law!

The aim was to let the freshmen familiarize with thenew environment of our university and to make friends. When the freshmen first met in PolyU, the feeling wasreally strange as they couldn’t even remember eachother’s name. However, in the O’camp, the team spirit wasbuilding up. Whether they won or lost in the games, laughter and cheers were everywhere.

Throughout the exhibition, all the participants workedtogether to promote the public’s awareness of the healthissues. The team spirit was very united and the team workwas excellent. The public’s response to the event was alsovery positive. We had approximately six hundred peoplevisited our exhibition. This demonstrated more people inHong Kong show concern towards their health.

The physiotherapy health information day was a greatsuccess. All the volunteers of the exhibition enjoyed theirwork and were rewarded in seeing the public couldimprove their health through such meaningful activity.

Physiotherapy Student Society O’camp 2003In the camp, all the seniors treated the freshmen as

their younger sisters and brothers, caring them fromeating to taking a shower, and making sure of their safe-ty. All the freshmen treated their group mates as brothersand sisters, ensuring that nobody was neglected, and theycheered one another up whenever they were depressed.

The PSS O’camp 2003 might not be the best, but thelaughter and enjoyment shown on freshmen’s faces madethe event a memorable and unforgettable one.
