1.0 INTRODUCTION

During July16th of July through July 29,1997, a diamond drilling program consisting of 1

diamond drill hole totalling 481 meters was conducted on the Joa Option by Bradely Brothers

Drilling Contractors

The diamond drilling program on the Joa property was part of a continuing effort by

Battle Mountain Canada Ltd to test a Sericitic Feldspathic Alteration Zone for potential Au

mineralization. Along strike of the Golden Giant mine

A review of diamond drill core and previous work on the Sericitic Feldspathized

Alteration Zone, by Bond Gold and Newmont Exploration of Canada Ltd. suggested the Sericitic

Feldspathized Zone in the eastern section of the property maybe a product of hydrothermal

alteration due to the presence of intense Sericitic and Silicified units. These units maybe focused

along a significant structural break, with elevated trace elements similar to that seen at the

Hemlo deposit.

2.0 LOCATION AND ACCESS (Figure 1)

The Joa property is located along the eastern boundary of Lecour Township and the

western boundary Pic Township, approximately 16 kilometres east of the town of Marathon and

18 kilometres west of the Hemlo deposit (Figure 1).

The Trans-Canada Highway transacts the southern portion of the property and several

access roads off of the Trans-Canada Highway allow access to the northern part of the property.

Holes J97-1, J97-1A were collared near old existing skidder trails. Most of the southern part of

the property is overlain by a black spruce bog.

4.0 Regional Geology (Figure 3)

The Joa Option is located within the Archean Schreiber-Hemlo greenstone Belt which is

part of the Abitibi-Wawa-Shebandowan Subprovince of the Superior Province. The area

contains a dominantly east-west striking sequence of metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks

that dip steeply to the north. These units are bounded to the north and south by large granitoid

plutons.

The supracrustal rocks underlying the majority of the property consist of tholeiitic basaltic

flows with subordinate tuffs and epiclastic arkosic wacke and siltstone. Interbeds of intermediate

to felsic volcanic tuffs and/or volcaniclastic sediments occur locally, and feldspar */- quartz

porphyry dikes and sills intrude both volcanics and sediments. In the south eastern portion of the

property is the northern edge of the Archean Heron Bay Pluton. Previous work has revealed a

favourable geological setting for gold mineralization. Several zones of sericitic hematite - stained

and silicified porphyries have intruded sericitic altered clastic metasediments and mafic

volcanics.

A zone of baritic rock, which varies from nearly massive barite to baritic cherty siltstone,

associated with green mica-bearing rocks, graphitic and calc-silicate altered sediments, plus

fragmental units occurs along a mafic volcanic l sedimentary contact. The zone strikes

approximately east-west through the northern part of the adjoining Hemlo West property and

extends for at least 800 meters into the Joa property.

5.0 PREVIOUS WORK

The Joa Property has experienced considerable exploration since the discovery of the

Hemlo deposit. Much of the work was concentrated on the eastern portion of the current

property.

The following is a chronological summary of the previous work performed on various

portions of the Joa Option.

A total of 91, 1 metre samples of drill core were split and assayed for Au with negligible

results. The diamond drill hole logs and assay results for each hole are contained in Appendix 1

6.2 Results

The hole collared in to mediium to fine grained clastic sediments which are interbedded

with argillaceous sediments (*7-graphite, pyrrhotite), The finer grained units are sericitized with

feldspathic alteration laminations. These include from the following three intervals from between

115.55 - 134.09 metres, and 270.6 - 286 metres. The most intense alteration is between 393 -

399.9 where a Sericite Schist with 2 - 307o pyrite is present. Despite, the alteration in the above

three intervals they hosted insignificant gold values of < 5 ppb . The medium to coarse grained

sediments are biotite rich and have minor quartz carbonate veins that are sometimes assocaited

with sphalerite, galena and chalcopyrite. Gold values of up to 54 ppb were returned from a 1

metre sample between 290.1 - 291.2 metres, hosted in a sericitized greywacke . The hole ended

in a thick sequence of massive garnetiferous mafic flows. The feldspar +I- quartz porphyry that

was intersected 100m to the west of J97-1 by Newmont Exploration Canada Ltd.HWT was not

encountered in J97-1. Gold assays were quite low with the highest value being 52 ppb Au.

8.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The results of the 1997 diamond drilling programs which tested the Sericitized

Feldspathic Zone on the eastern portion of the Joa option indicate limited potential for economic

gold mineralization along the Sericitized Feldspathic Zone. This alteration zone has not been full

evaluated and 2 more drill holes were proposed but due to limited funding exploration will

continue in 1998.The south-eastern part of the Joa Option which hosts numerous feldspar +I-

quartz porphyry intrusives that warrant a more thorough evaluation. Future work programs on the

Joa Option should focus on this area which may have some potential for Hemlo type

mineralization.
