The Club
Formed in 1877, Dornoch has now been a Royal club for over 100 years! A Royal title means exceptional standards and we always aimto exceed the expectations of our frequent visitors and loyal members. However, we aim to do this in a relaxed, informalenvironment, with an emphasis on traditional highland hospitality.
The responsibility for actually designing our Championship course fell to the legendary Old Tom Morris who used the uniquelinks-land features to create a magical golfing experience – one that prompted Tom Watson, five times Open Champion, to say ‘it’sthe most fun I’ve ever had on a golf course’!
Over the years the Championship course has been tweaked and enhanced by greats such as John Sutherland and our ownex-professional and greenkeeper, Donald Ross. Open Champion, George Duncan added new holes after the war ensuring that thecourse has remained a challenge in the face of ever improving equipment and continues to be regularly ranked within the top 15 bestcourses in the world.
And it’s not just the Championship course that benefits from the challenges that links-land throws up. The recent addition of five newholes on the Struie have transformed this course into one that still maintains its role as an enjoyable and entertaining course for thewhole family, but one that tests even the lower handicap player.
Royal Dornoch has a modern clubhouse and everyone is welcome to enjoy the facilities. We have a generously stocked bar and arestaurant serving anything from hot filled rolls to a full dinner menu. And for those who don’t golf, Dornoch’s superb ‘blue flag’beaches and historic old town are just a short walk away.
Royal Dornoch is a true haven of peace, tranquillity and, of course, world class golf. We look forward to welcoming you soon.
The Course
As you play over classic links land that borders the North Sea at the Dornoch Firth, you will be awed by its wild magnificence of sea, sky, mountains and ancient, grass-covered dunes while having every shot you have in your bag tested. This course saw golf beingplayed long before the establishment of the Club , the first written record recorded in 1616. It is consistently ranked within the toptwenty of everybodys list of the 100 best courses in the world.
