1ST GRADE - NPL NSW MEN’S

Miro Vlastelica has given Sydney United 58 a new lease on life and the will be out to add

another three points when they host Hakoah Sydney City East on Saturday.A late fight back helped United 58 to a 3-1 win against Wollongong last round to give the Reds their third straight game of scoring three goals. For Hakoah, Round 17 was one to forget as the Eastern Suburbs based side suffered a 2-1 defeat after Marconi’s Peter Pelekanos scored a final second winner in the 93rd minute.United 58’s well known attacker in Panny Nikas has been in fine form of late and is once again rediscovering the form he hit wowing many in the NPL in the last few years – a player that will give the Hakoah defence plenty of headaches and one to watch out for.Mitchell Stamatellis demonstrated his class in a losing team last round with a brilliant performance against Marconi. The veteran defender was solid at the back and pushed forward late in the match to create an equalising

goal for Hakoah. His presence in the side makes a big difference to the Eastern Suburbs side’s chances.Sydney United 58 have been flying high in recent weeks, but Hakoah need a bounce back win and will leave everything on the pitch as they strive for a vital three points on Saturday.

#NPLNSWMATCH REVIEWSWollongong Wolves 1 – Sydney United 58 3 at WIN Stadium

Two goals in the final five minutes has helped Sydney United 58 to a dramatic 3-1 victory against Wollongong Wolves at WIN Stadium on Sunday.

It was a frantic end to the match as Goals in the 86th and 90th minute to substitutes Patrick Antelmi and Sam Perre wrapped up the three points for the visitors and their third win in as many games.

For the Wolves, it was a frustrating afternoon at the office, with the side creating numerous chances but failing to take them and were punished as a result.

The victory maintains United 58’s hold on third position on the ladder one point ahead Blacktown City who have a game in hand.

The hosts would open the scoring in the 18th minute after a strong start.

Hakoah Sydney City East 1 – Marconi Stallions 2 at Hensley Athletic Field

An incredible final second goal from Peter Pelekanos has given Marconi Stallions a last ditch 2-1 victory against Hakoah Sydney City East at Hensley Athletic Field.

The centre back was in the right place at the right time to find a last gasp match winner after it seemed Hakoah had done enough to claim a draw.

After a slow start to the game, Hakoah had the best of the first half chances but it was Marconi who took a 1-0 lead into the break thanks to a headed finish from former Socceroo Michael Beauchamp.

With the clock ticking down Hakoah thought they had snatched a point when Anthony Frangie hit the back of the net in the 87th minute to level the scores at 1-1.

However, there was another twist in the tale to come and Pelekanos’ 93rd minute goal sent the visiting fans into raptures as they claimed an unexpected three points.

NPLNSW.COM.AU U20’S MATCH PREVIEW

Sydney United 58 will be looking to boost their finals hopes when they host Hakoah

Sydney City East in the late game at Sydney United Sports Centre on Saturday afternoon.

They could only manage a scoreless draw against Wollongong Wolves when they travelled to WIN Stadium in Round 17, missing a fantastic opportunity to close the gap on their opponents to a point. Instead, they remain four points off the pace, and face a tricky match with fourth-placed Hakoah on Saturday.

Hakoah Sydney City East lost 1-0 to Marconi Stallions last weekend, a result that will make it difficult to crack the top two, but which still leaves them with room to breathe as they sit five points ahead of their Round 18 opponents. Hakoah edged a 1-0 win over Sydney United when the two sides met back in April.
