Presidents Message for the Meeting of the 20th
September
It was lovely to hear from Jeanne Pienaar again, having
already spoken at our Club a couple of years ago, before
her trip to Cambodia to teach. Tonight we were told
what she did, the experiences she had and an insight into
the plight of young women, particularly those that are
victims of sexual abuse and trafficking, their education,
and Cambodia’s politics and corruption. The number of
questions reflected our deep interest.
It was nice to have Ian Craig back amongst us and
recovering, and to be able to report that Lea’s surgery
was successful and she appears to be making a good
recovery at this early stage.
In last week’s Rotator I had included an Invitation from
the Rotary Club of Coomera Valley to join them on the
17th October when Jeremy Scott is their Guest Speaker. I
have been told that when Lea mentioned it at the meeting
there was considerable interest and one of our members
tonight suggested to me we consider making it a social
Club visit and cancel our Tuesday meeting of the 18th. I
would appreciate your comments either in person or by
email and if there appears sufficient interest your Board
will consider it.
We have a new computer attached to our projector to
allow easier power point presentations. This has been
donated to the Club by Merv, thankyou Merv.
Next week you will be fortunate to have Marion as acting
President while Christine and I, along with Peter and
Barbara, Lionel and Yvonne and Merv and Glenda are in
Charleville on our “Spirits Raising” mission with
Outback Links. I will be on a property helping to turn
some disused Shearers Quarters into “self contained “ ,
four room accommodation for a Governess, while the
others clean restore and paint the Museum Heritage
House and do some gardening around Homesteads. We
will strive to serve and make a difference in and around
Charleville.
Until the 27th,
Graham Cooper

Thoughts for the week What school do you greet people in? Hi School ! Why did the teacher marry the janitor? Because he swept her off her feet! Why were the teacher's eyes crossed? She couldn't control her pupils! Teachers always tell us to follow our dreams....BUT yet they don't let us sleep in class. Why did the teacher write the lesson on the windows? He wanted the lesson to be very clear! What is the center of gravity? The letter "V" ! Father: How do you like going to school? Son: The going bit is fine, as is the coming home bit too, but I'm not too keen on the time in-between!
Teacher: whoever answers my next question, can go home. One boy throws his bag out the window.
Teacher: who just threw that?! Boy: Me! I’m going home now.
When Chuck Norris was in middle school, his English teacher assigned an essay: "What is courage?" He
received an A+ for turning in a blank page with only his name at the top
