President’s Message 1st March

To the members of Southport Rotary,

We would all like to thank you for choosing us as recipients for your grant and helping us purchase new

bikes. We love the opportunity to get active and mobile and access our local community in a fun and

healthy way. We are very grateful for your support.

Sincerely,

Intensive Learning Group, Currumbin Community Special School

Anthony Moore is just 16 years old, but he spoke very eloquently and without notes about his experience

at the National Youth Science Forum. He is a young man blessed with brains, health and good looks.

His potential is unlimited. In comparison the children taught by Camille Curtis have not been so lucky.

To quote a couple of student profiles from the Currumbin Community Special School Yearbook: My

biggest achievement this year is using my iPad and picture cards to answer yes and no questions.

Another said: My biggest achievement this year is standing up in my new electric wheelchair with nice

strong legs.

As Rotarians, I hope you are as proud as I am about what we do to be a gift to the world and local

community.

Next week District Governor Anne Egan will be our guest speaker. Anne has recently undergone major

surgery. Her visit at this time highlights her strength of character and commitment to Rotary. Please

bring wives and partners to meet this remarkable woman.

Lea Rickwood

Appreciation certificate from Camille to Pres Lea

Certificate for Anthony Guest speakers with Pres Lea

Thoughts for the week.

Gone are the days when girls used to cook like their mothers. Now they drink like their fathers. You know that tingly little feeling you get when you really like someone?

That's common sense leaving your body. I didn't make it to the gym today. That makes five years in a row. I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning. Last year I joined a support group for procrastinators. We haven't met yet. Old age is coming at a really bad time. When I was a child I thought “Nap Time” was a punishment. Now, as a grownup, it feels like a small vacation. The biggest lie I tell myself is, "I don't need to write that down, I'll remember it."

I don't have gray hair; I have "wisdom highlights." I'm just very wise. If God wanted me to touch my toes, he would've put them on my knees. Why do I have to press one for English when you're just gonna transfer me to someone I can't understand anyway?

Of course I talk to myself; sometimes I need expert advice. At my age "Getting lucky" means walking into a room and remembering what I came in there for.
