CLUB HISTORYLike many local football clubs, the history of Rossington Main FC has been revised several times in recent years. Originally thought to have been formed in 1926, local knowledge has since revised this date to 1919 when ‘Rossington Colliery’ entered the Sheffield Association League, playing their fixtures on ground at the back of the Colliery offices. A club had competed under the Rossington Colliery name in 1917, but only since 1919 has the club been in continued existence.

The club moved to their current Oxford Street ground in 1921, and just a few years later enjoyed their best ever run in the FA Cup, reaching the 4th Qualifying Round in the 1924-25 season, where they were beaten 3-0 at Lincoln City. The club continued under the name Rossington Colliery for thirty years, enjoying its most successful season at the end of the Second World War when they did the ‘Doncaster Double’, winning both the Doncaster Senior League and Cup in 1944-45. Following the nationalisation of the mines in 1948, the club endured a change of name to Rossington Miners Welfare, and under this moniker they lifted the Doncaster Senior League Premier Division Cup in 1974.

In 1983, now known as Rossington Main, the club became founder members of the Central Midlands League, being promoted to the Premier Division as runners-up in their first season. The following year the club took the top flight by storm, winning the Premier Division title and completing the double with the Premier Division Cup. In 1991, following the erection of floodlights and a new Main Stand at Oxford Street which were christened with a friendly against Leeds United that attracted a crowd of around 1,200, the club made the step up to the Northern Counties East League and have remained in Division One ever since. In 1998, after lengthy negotiations, the club merged with near neighbours Rossington FC.

Formed as Station FC in the 1970s (initially changing in a small building at the pub of the same name for games on the adjacent Tornedale field) they had begun life in local Sunday football, but had progressed rapidly, relocating to Rossington Welfare and joining the Central Midlands League in 1986. Here they excelled early on, lifting nine awards in their first two seasons in the league including the Division One title in 1987-88.

Rossington FC continued to grow operating four teams; a Sunday side and an Under 18s team flanking their 1st and 2nd teams in the Central Midlands League. But, despite growth and development on the field the club

were unable to match the expectations of the Central Midlands League financially, and in 1998 they elected to leave the league; facilitating the merger.

Immediately after the merger Main ran both an over 35s and an under 18s team to much success. The over 35s made good progress in the Wragg Sheffield & Hallamshire League finishing Division 2A Champions in 2001 and Division 1A Runners-up the following year. Whilst the under 18s enjoyed continued success in the Doncaster & District Boys League. The club’s reserves, competing in the Doncaster & District League, have also enjoyed much success since the merger. They achieved a League and Cup Double in 2000, have reached the Cup final on three other occasions in the past decade, and finished as League runners-up just last season.

The early years of the 21st century weren’t as kind on the Rossington Main 1st team, but recently the club has enjoyed a revival of fortunes and reasserted itself at the heart of the community. In 2008 much work was done at Oxford Street to bring the club’s home back up to scratch, a job rewarded as the club hosted Doncaster Rovers,in a pre-season friendly.; the gate receipts from which enabled the club to regain a financially sound footing. Further ground improvements have followed each summer, as the club have looked to provide better facilities for players and supporters alike, most notable of which is the new clubhouse which has enabled the club to bring in much needed revenue. The pride in the club’s off the field set-up continued with the club’s programme picking up awards in both 2011 and 2012 whilst edited by Pete Murden.

Off field progress has been matched on the pitch too, with Main reaching the final of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy in 2011. And in 2011-12 the club enjoyed its best ever season in the Northern Counties East League, breaking club goalscoring and points records to finish seventh, despite losing 11 members of the 1st team squad along the way.

Rossington Main now operates two sides on a Saturday. The aims of the club are to provide a unified approach to football in the village so that there is a natural progression in the development of the game. The club strives to sustain competition at the highest possible and affordable level, to continue to provide excellent facilities for both players and spectators, to give opportunity for local players to progress, to reward loyalty and cater for the progression of football in the community of Rossington.

Good afternoon and, for the final time this season, a warm welcome to Oxford Street for this afternoon’s game. Today we extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Appleby Frodingham and we trust that all connected with our neighbours from along the M180 enjoy their visit to the ground today.

So, in the words of Barry Manilow, “looks like we made it”. With just two games to go, we are effectively sure of retaining our NCEL status for another season (though a further point would help make it mathematically certain). With a large number of players having left us over the past 16 months in order to earn a bit of money from their football it has proved a very difficult season for us at the club. We will never stand in the way of players who wish to move on, but we are always sad to see them ply their trade elsewhere, as we work to establish a community club here at Oxford Street.

Despite the undoubted talent which has left us, a huge amount of credit is due to the current crop of players who have made the step up to fill their boots. It has not been easy, but whilst other clubs in the town struggle to survive or see out their fixtures, that we are still able to field two teams every Saturday is a huge achievement in itself.

Thanks and praise are also due to Steve Lodge, George Spears and Ian Wilson for helping the players to make that step, and of course to our wider committee and volunteers who keep this club going at the heart of the community. My stint as programme editor may be ending today, but the Main will be here again in 2013-14 and that is thanks to you and your continued support of your local club. Let’s end the season on a high today.

The penultimate match of the 2001-02 season didn’t quite go to plan or the form book for Main eleven years ago today.

Rossington had been on a good run of form since the turn of the year with their only defeats coming at the hands

of promotion chasing Gedling, Bridlington and Lincoln Moorlands. Staveley meanwhile were firmly in the bottom two and without a win since November. The archetypal coupon buster then, but it did little to alter the fortunes of either side as Rossington ended the season in 8th.

Seventeen years ago today the pre-merger Rossington FC defeated current Evostick Premier side Mickleover Sports 3-1 on the Welfare field in the first of four successive wins that would bring a positive end to their Supreme Division campaign.

A Robbie Nelson penalty got Rossington off the mark, and though Sports pulled a goal back a strike from Scott Henderson maintained the home side’s advantage going into half-time.

The points were wrapped up after the interval when JohnTemperton struck a third for Ian Wilson’s side.

Across the field, here at Oxford Street Rossington Main were also in action closing out their season with a 1-1 draw with Garforth Town. The match was something of an anti-climax compared to The Colliery’s other two games in April which had seen them trade 14 goals with Eccleshill in back to back games; 2-4 and 3-5.

Twenty-two years ago Rossington FC were in Central Midlands League action away at Shirebrook Colliery. This was the fourth of six successive away games as ‘Station’ played out their season into the first week of May,

After victories on the road at Brailsford (3-0) and Long Eaton United (5-3) this was a somewhat disappointing return for Ian Wilson’s side.

Current Main manager Steve Lodge played in goal for Rossington in this one whilst Ian Wilson named himself as a substitute, but didn’t send himself on.

The 1990-91 season was also rolling on for the 2nd team too as they were in action at home to Priory, but also tasted defeat. Goals from Scott Risdale and Martin Abonyi failing to prevent a 3-2 loss.

Brumby Hall Sports Ground is the home of Appleby Frodingham Football Club. In 2010 the Scunthorpe Council took over the ownership of the 36 acre site. However they have given a 99 year lease, at a peppercorn rent, to the Appleby Frodingham Works Athletics Club who govern all the sporting sections including Football.

After the Second-World War had finished Appleby Frodingham were one of the founder members of the Lincolnshire League. Then in the mid seventies they played in the Midland League before moving into the Northern Counties East League In 1986, the year of the steel strike, the management and team moved mid season to Winterton Rangers. Thankfully the side reformed, and after three years in local football they returned to play in the

A WARM WELCOME TO APPLEBY FRODINGHAMLincolnshire League in 1990. The early and mid nineties was Appleby Frodingham’s most successful period as they won the League, County and Challenge Cups. In 1998 with chairman Ron Bailey at the helm, a five-year plan to install floodlights and enter a team in the Northern Under 19 Alliance League was set up.

After thirteen years in the Lincolnshire League the club joined the Central Midlands Premier Division in season 2003/04. The management team of Mark Jenkinson and John Simpson guided the team to 4th place in the League after an excellent unbeaten mid season run of 14 games. At the end of the season Appleby Frodingham were promoted into the Central Midlands League Supreme Division. In the first two seasons the side finished in the top half of the division and also reached the semi-finals of the Floodlit and Challenge Cup only to be beaten by Barton Town. In 2005/06 Appleby Frodingham were nominated for the FA Charter Standard Community Club National Award. Regretfully, they were not among the regional winners, however the club were the Lincolnshire F.A. winners at County level, a feat repeated again in 2007/08.

Michael Guillatt - 23 - GoalkeeperMichael has recently returned to the UK after playing in the USA for the last few years. He has settled quickly into the team and his prowess in goal has really shown in the few games he has played so far.

Josh Reid - 20 - Full-BackYoung player who has progressed through the U10’s into the1st team. Voted young player of the year last season and has become a regular choice in the right back position this year.

Oliver Bradbury - 20 - ForwardJoined last season and quickly settled in with the rest of the squad. His work rate up front is excellent harrying the opposition’s defence. Will hit the back of the net if given the opportunity to do so.

Matty Fowler - 19 - Centre MidfieldA young player who has developed very well through our U19’s where he has been voted manager’s player of the year for the last two seasons. Very good mid-field player who has excellent stamina and is strong in the tackle.

Richard Girling - 22 - Centre BackSecond season with Appleby Frodingham having moved from local football. Played well last year and is still improving. Promising young player who will have a long career with the club.

Season 2008/09 marked a new chapter in Appleby Frodingham’s history when in March that year a letter from the secretary of the Northern Counties East League was received asking if they would be interested in joining the League; an offer which was gratefully accepted.

After a poor season in 2010/11 worse was to come in 2011/12. The pre-season friendlies produced good results but a poor start to the league season resulted in some of our players moving to other clubs. We did not recover from this and amassed only eight points all season. We were extremely fortunate, but very grateful, that Handsworth were expelled from the league allowing us to retain our place for this season.

David Bocock - 23 - Full BackPlayed for the club for several years coming through the reserves to play in the 1st team. Fit player who is good at tackling and closing down the opposition in mid-field.

Chris McDonald - 28 - Att. MidfieldOutstanding player who played in our U19’s before joining Lincoln Moorlands. Re-joined us during last season and scored 10 goals before suffering a serious injury. He is still a very skilful, talented player.

Samir Own - 20 - GoalkeeperPromising young goal keeper who has progressed through our U19’s. Good shot stopper and bravely dives at the feet of the opposition strikers to minimise their goal scoring chances.

Matty Robinson - 26 - Centre MidfieldFit consistent player with a superb engine although he can be temperamental. Left footed player and a strong tackler who can win the ball in the centre of mid-field.

Callum Render - 20 - Centre MidfieldRecently transferred from Winterton Rangers. Strong player who can win the ball and distribute it well to other players. Quality player who is a valuable new addition to the squad.

Tommy Spall - 33 - Centre MidfieldExperienced player who has played for several clubs at a higher level e.g. Brigg Town. Very confident on the ball which he does not lose when in possession. Popular very talented creative player who also likes to get on the scoresheet.

Paul Tait - 26 - ForwardJoined Appleby Frodingham as a goalkeeper but tried him up front last season where he performed well scoring some good goals. Very fast player who will get away from the defence if given the opportunity to do so.

Josh Turgoose - 20 - Centre MidfieldYoung player who we have recently signed from Winterton Rangers. Previously played with App Frod U19’s so he has quickly settled into the team. Can play anywhere in midfield or in the full back position. Very promising new recruit.

Nathan Watson - 23 - ForwardAnother recent signing from a local Sunday team. Played well for Appleby Frodingham when he was younger and he has developed physically. Nathan will become a regular squad member.

Matthew Oates - 24 - DefenderRejoined Appleby Frodingham this season having played for Bottesford Town in NCEL Division One last season. Usually plays on the left side of the back four. Left footed player who is also good in the air.

Huge congratulations to Scarborough Athletic who barring an incredibly improbable set of results in the next week have secured the NCEL Premier Division title. The team formed by supporters of Scarborough FC effectively secured the title with a 2-0 win over Retford at Queensgate Stadium last Saturday. Scarborough’s vastly superior goal difference means that Brighouse Town will have to notch rugby scores in their final two games in order to surpass them.

And whilst we’re dishing out congratulations, well doneto Albion Sports too as they have secured promotion to the top flight from NCEL Division One. Albion have been very welcome visitors to Oxford Street, always staying for the post-match hospitality and we wish them well with the step up. A win at Bottesford for Albion today would give them the title from second-place Athersley Recreation.

ROSSINGTON MAIN 1-3 WORSBROUGH BRIDGE ATHLETIC

Our visitors were in the middle of a glut of games following postponements earlier in the season. But Worsbrough Bridge’s form this season has been excellent and has seen them gain their highest League placing for several years, whereas we came into this game suffering from a heavy 6-1 midweek defeat at Eccleshill.

Worsbrough certainly started the brighter and they were working hard all over the field to close us down whenever we regained possession. Therefore it was somewhat against the run of play when Ben Hunter finished well after mid way through the half to give us a rare early advantage on 25 minutes.

Our lead was to be somewhat short-lived though as within 6 minutes our visitors were in front. Firstly the unfortunate Nathan Cook diverted a right wing cross past the despairing Jordan Wildey and then the Worsbrough left winger struck an unstoppable effort from fully 25 yards that hit the underside of the bar and ricocheted across the line before keeper Wildey had barely had time to move. The final fifteen minutes of the half were fairly even though as we began to match our visitors’ work-rate up to the interval.

The whole of the 2nd half was a fairly even contest as both sides went in search of the vital goal that might decide the match, our visitors striving for the 3rd goal and ourselves seeking an equaliser that might put us back in the game.

However both midfields seemed to cancel one another out and defences tightened up so that there were very few goal-scoring opportunities created. Both Hunter and Jonathan Mirfin went close and John Tunney made some excellent interceptions at the back before some indecision between keeper and back four allowed Worsbrough leading scorer Garside to poke home that vital goal with 10 minutes remaining. Despite a late surge we were unable to break down a resolute Worsbrough defence and suffered another home defeat when we were easily a match for our opponents, the difference being more unity and a greater desire being displayed by our opponents.

MAIN IN ACTIONSAT 20TH APRIL // NCEL DIVISION ONE

BOTTESFORD TOWN 4-1 ROSSINGTON MAINMain Manager Steve Lodge had four absentees for this visit to Scunthorpe-based Bottesford and gave rare starts to Adam Wisdom and Robert Kilmartin. Our situation at the foot of the table was still not certain at this point, although the sides below us had to win their remaining games to overhaul us, and so a more determined team effort was required to gain something from this game and so seal our survival in NCEL Division 1 for next season.

In rare sunny and warm conditions we gave a good account of ourselves in the first half and led at the interval through a Wisdom goal, the striker on hand to apply the final touch after Brandon Fallon’s header had struck the inside of the post.

Minutes later a fine chest and volley from Wisdom went narrowly wide before Bottesford should have equalised, their striker missing an easy chance at the far post with the goal at his mercy. Moments before half-time we came close to extending our lead once again as Nathan Fraser’s shot beat the substitute keeper but shaved the wrong side of the post.

Ian Wilson must have thought that 3 or 4 players actually went with them as we showed a 2nd half collapse.

To Bottesford’s credit they showed far more determination whereas we struggled to put three passes together, and kept seeing the ball coming back to us as we failed to keep any kind of possession. Their first goal was a screamer into the top corner from fully 30 yards, with no-one more surprised it seemed than the actual scorer. Following Cook’s substitution their 2nd looked well offside when their striker took advantage of a rebound, he did finish well mind! We were 3-1 down when we failed to deal with a long throw into the box and it became four when we again failed to deal with a ball delivered into our goal area, this time from distance from a deep free-kick. In between keeper Wildey made some good saves that prevented a further punishing result, wheras the Bottesford stand-in was rarely troubled. Certainly a 2nd half performance to forget, although unfortunately I will not.

MEET THE MAIN MENSteve Lodge (Manager)Steve took over the reigns for the end of the 2010/11 season, leading the club to the Wilkinson Sword Trophy. Last season, Steve’s first full season in charge, was also successful as the first team broke a number of club records to achieve their best NCEL finish. A firm believer in club spirit, which is why most players and officials at the club are local.

Ian Wilson (Assistant Manager)A former Wales youth and amateur international Ian also does an excellent job as club groundsman amongst other roles. Previously in charge of Rossington FC, he took that club from local Sunday football to the top flight of the Central Midlands League

Lee ApplebyNow in his 7th season at the Main, making him one of the top appearance makers in recent years Lee was instrumental in our record breaking season last year with some outstanding performances and 12 clean sheets. Dedicated, honest and hardworking as well as agile, quick and boasting superb handling Lee is one of the best keepers the NCEL has to offer.

Jordan WildeyYoung Jordan will provide competition for the number one shirt this year after some impressive displays in tough games for both 1st and 2nd teams last season where he performed maturely and competently. He is a fantastic shot stopper, agile and very confident.

Bradley BillamFlying full back Brad continues to grow at left back; combining athleticism, confidence and consistency with a willingness to work forwards and backwards to become a valuable member of the Main squad. His attacking prowess was clear to see last year as he was credited with 8 assists.

Dan ElcoatPrimarily a central defender, Dan can play anywhere across the back four and also in

central midfield. He is strong in the air and tenacious in the tackle, boasting good communication skills and a strong desire to play.

Chris HansonChris joined the Main late last season from Yorkshire Main, playing a versatile role in the Rossington defence. Chris is calm in possession and is a good reader of the game.

Tom HarteVery good on the ball and well organised Tom came back to football last year after some time away from the game. He played with the Reserves last season but has shown during pre-season that he is capable of becoming a 1st team player.

David Holvey2011/12 Manager’s Player of the Year; Club Captain Dave lead by example last year and his never say die attitude and loyalty to the club make him an invaluable asset. A great leader and robust defender Dave is also capable of pin-point long range passes that turn defence quickly into attack.

Dean JonesDean can play in any position across the back four, as he has done for the Reserves. Another player to return to the game after some time away, Dean is a good footballer and very good in the air.

Will Rowley2011/12 Reserves Players’ Player of the Year. Long-time Main man Will is an old school central defender who provided some excellent displays last season. Solid in the air, well-timed in the tackle and a threat at set pieces he is reliable and extremely valuable for both sides.

Richard SpearsVery hard working, committed and energetic, Richard played an important role in the club’s strong 2011/12 campaign. Richard will no doubt look to continue working hard to cement his place in the team.

1919 Q&A feature, so here is an insight into the world of central midfielder JONATHAN MIRFIN

Q1. When was your debut for Rossington Main & who was it against?A1. My debut was against Staveley down at Oxford street. We won 4-1 I think it was and I scored too!

Q2. First footballing memory?A2. My first footballing memory is playing football with my brother and his mates down at the park trying to join in; being annoying I bet!

Q3. First team you played for?A3. Carcroft Village Boys. Probably under 7’s. That was my team for a long time.

Q4. Which team do you support?A4. Manchester United! I always keep an eye out for the Doncaster Rovers score as well and its good seeing them do well.

Q5. Which footballer was your boyhood hero?A5. Definatley Eric Cantona. Turned things round for Manchester United. Won matches on his own and never a dull moment with him. Cheers Leeds!

Q6. Who do you consider the greatest player in your position? A6. The best player I have seen play centre midfield is Zinedine Zidane. Closely followed by Paul Scholes!

Q7. What was the first professional game you ever went to watch?A7. I went to watch Sheffield Wednesday play Manchester United at Hillsbrough. I don’t think you ever forget the first time you walk out into a stadium and see the pitch for the first time

Q8. If you could travel in time to attend any match ever which would you choose?A8. If I could have been at any game it would have been the F.A Cup semi final between Manchester United and Arsenal [in 1999] to see Ryan Giggs’s goal. I can remember going mental when he scored that.

Q13. What is your most prized footballing possession?A13. I’ve got a signed and framed Cantona shirt which is definitley my prize football possession. My girlfriend bought me it; I proposed a few weeks after...

Q14. Who is the best player you have ever played alongside?A14. Probably Adam Feasey. He could have gone a long way but he quit at a young age! Never seen anyone score so many bicycle kicks

Q15. Who is the best player you have ever played against? A15. Neil Redfearn. I was only young and he gave me a lesson to be fair. He scored a twenty yard screamer to win the game in the last minute as well.

Q16. What is your proudest achievement in football so far?A16. Scoring the winner in a Cup final for Carcroft when I was younger... Against Rosso !

Q17. Sum what Rossington Main means to you in 5 words or less.A17. Playing for Rosso you don’t get many boring games![That’s a few more than five Jono!]

Q18. What has been your favorite moment whilst with Rossington Main? A18. Probably beating Worksop 4-0 at their ground last season. Some of the football we played was class. Q19. MEET THE MAIN MENShaun PendletonShaun played the majority of last season at centre back before moving into central midfield where he put in some great displays. Versatile and very professional in his approach, Shaun is a hard worker. His defensive attributes are as impressive as his offensive ones. A very strong passer of the ball, he can play a vital role in playmaking from deeper positions.

John TunneyJohn joins the club from Yorkshire Main after several very successful seasons there. A versatile player who is equally capable of playing anywhere in defence or midfield.

Marcel ChipamungaYoung local lad Marcel is making his first steps into senior football this season, hoping to gain experience and develop as a player. Marcel has already shown the management team that he has bags of potential and willingness to learn.

Ben ClarkYoung and enthusiastic with a good attitude to learning the game. wide man Ben is also making his first step into senior football. He is full of pace and positive running which will no doubt cause a problem for defenders.

Niall DoyleAs the Reserve team captain Niall has become an important part of the club, helping the Reserves to a close title race last season. Niall likes to keep the ball moving and push forward into goal scoring positions whenever possible.

Nathan FraserAnother very versatile player who is naturally gifted, Nathan loves to attack and run at players and his creativity could prove important . Nathan’s ability to play out wide, down the middle, up front and even at the back makes him a key squad member.

Jonathan MirfinMain’s 2011/12 Supporters’ Player of the Year. Jonathan continues to impress at the Main with consistent displays in the centre of

midfield. Jonathan rarely gives the ball away, starting attacks and creating chances for his team mates. The controlled midfielder is also useful from free-kicks.

Danny TaylorDanny joins the club from Askern this season and can play across the midfield and at full back, is very confident in possession and looks after the ball well.

Brandon FallonBrandon burst into the Main squad in March. Tall, powerful and very quick and for such a young lad he fits in very well at this level. After only seven appearances last season, we are waiting to see even more of Brandon this year.

Tom McLaughlinPace, dribbling and finishing are just three attributes that make Tom a very dangerous opponent for defenders. He can play up front or on either wing. Tom joins after several seasons with Askern Villa and will be looking to cement a starting role at the Main this term.

Scott MaughanThe club’s overall top scorer last season.as he make his return to football after some time away from the game. It proved very successful as he fired the Reserves into a title chasing spot. Scott is a natural finisher who comes alive around the penalty area.

Dean ThorntonA former regular scorer for the Reserves, Dean has returned to force his way into the 1st team. Dean is excellent with his back to goal and good in the air, but equally as effective running past the back four. A natural finisher and confident in front of goal.

Adam WisdomAdam is blessed with pace and power and his physical attributes and appetite to work make him a handful for opponents. A threat running beyond defenders, but really comes alive from close range, where he scored all of his goals last season.


STARTING ELEVENTHIS ISSUE’S XI... WORDS YOU ONLY EVER HEAR IN FOOTBALL1. ExpungedI noticed this when writing out the Doncaster Senior League tables for the programme; clubs who cease to exist for whatever reason never have their results removed or deleted from a table, they are only ever ‘expunged’.

2. AplombAside from a well-struck finish, how many other things can you name that have ever been put away with ‘aplomb’? ...Exactly.

3. Come-and-get-me PleaA term that should only be issued by hostages towards passing helicopters, or young kids who’ve had enough of their first sleepover, but instead it has come to describe footballers who are supposedly angling for a transfer.

4. Want-AwayIf a player does issue a ‘come-and-get-me-plea’ then that would mean that they are free to be described as want-away’. Footballers don’t look to move on, they don’t seek alternate employment, nor do they consider their options, instead they are ‘want-away’, like a toddler trying to make a grown up get rid of their coat for them.

6. SitterWe’ve all used it to describe an easy chance, but with no knowledge of the origins, its just accepted that a wasted opportunity is a missed sitter. The only other occasion you can miss the sitter is if you’re an American child throwing objects at the nice girl from down the street who your parents have paid to keep an eye on you.

6. Adjudged In the eyes of officials players are never ‘judged’, always ‘adjudged’; “He was adjudged to have handled by the referee”. Perhaps the extra ‘a’ helps give a sense of purpose. Who knows?

7.Row ZHow often is Row Z actually the furthest from the field? And how many grounds actually have a Row Z for you to toe-end a ball into anyway? Wouldn’t ‘over the fence and into the allotments’ be a better description?

8. Fully (in relation to distance)Only in football is ‘fully’ used in relation to measurements. “He shot from fully thirty yards”, because thirty alone would imply you’d sneaked a couple of extra yards in.

9.PlumpedOften used round team selection - “Sir Alex plumped for Kagawa up front” - but I can’t think of anything I’ve ever plumped for personally. 10. HoofAnimals possess the plural, and you can be caught on one too, but only in football is hoof used as a verb, you can’t ‘hoof ’ things in everyday life, only footballs, and often in the direction of the aforementioned Row Z.

11. All-SeaterA modern phenomenon both in terms of architecture and language. They are simply seated stadiums as oppose to all-seater, seater isn’t even a word on its own, let alone when completely seater-ed.
