1926.502(f)(2)Warninglinesshallconsistofropes,wires,orchains,andsupportingstanchionserectedasfollows: OSHA Recommedation: A warning line is used 6-15 feet from the edge of the roof, dependaing on the slope. The warning line meets or exceeds the requirements in 1926.502(f)(2).
1926.502(f)(2)(i)Therope,wire,orchainshallbeflaggedatnotmorethan6-foot(1.8m)intervalswithhigh-visibilitymaterial; ManufacturersRecommendation:Spacingbetweentheroofedgedelineatorstobe6’-10’.
1926.502(f)(2)(ii)The rope, wire, or chain shall be rigged and supported in such a way that its lowest point (including sag) is no less than 34 inches (.9 m) from the walking/working surface and its highest point is no more than 39 inches (1.0 m) from the walking/working surface;
1926.502(f)(2)(iii)Afterbeingerected,withtherope,wire,orchainattached,stanchionsshallbecapableofresisting,withouttippingover,aforceofatleast16pounds(71N)appliedhorizontallyagainstthestanchion,30inches(.8m)abovethewalking/workingsurface,perpendiculartothewarningline,andinthedirectionofthefloor,roof,orplatformedge;
1926.502(f)(2)(iv)Therope,wire,orchainshallhaveaminimumtensilestrengthof500pounds(2.22kN),andafterbeingattachedtothestanchions,shallbecapableofsupporting,withoutbreaking,theloadsappliedtothestanchionsasprescribedinparagraph(f)(2)(iii)ofthissection;and
1926.502(f)(2)(v)Thelineshallbeattachedateachstanchioninsuchawaythatpullingononesectionofthelinebetweenstanchionswillnotresultinslackbeingtakenupinadjacentsectionsbeforethestanchiontipsover.
