Innovation and Engineering

SCHURTER is an internationally leading innovator and manufacturer of

fuses, connectors, circuit breakers, input systems and EMC products

as well as a PCB assembly service provider for the electronics industry.

Success for and together with our customers is our permanent incentive. We are

accustomed to being innovative to meet challenges in diverse markets. We boldly

realize new ideas, we support and drive forward our r&D teams, each day anew.

Renewable Energy Technologies

uninterrupted electricity supply represents a key competence in the 21st century.

photovoltaics (pv) and fuel cells in particular are of special importance because

of their sustainability and environmentally friendly technology. in contrast to water

and wind power, however, these sources produce Dc voltage which, in order to

be used commercially, must first be converted to ac voltage at the appropriate

line frequency (50 or 60 Hz).

Tasks

photovoltaic systems and other renewable energy technologies work on a similar

principle. Through chemical or physical processes, energy that is already there is

transformed into electric energy. This electric energy is then processed and made

available in a standardized form (see diagram on page 6). The electricity gener-

ated by such a system, however, must be used immediately, at the same time

that it is generated. and that is why there is the need for a storage medium which

can hold energy when there is no immediate consumption. Where electricity is

fed into the grid, the utility company will take on this task by constantly readjust-

ing the inflow of energy produced by third parties along with the fluctuation in

overall energy demand.

Such systems basically require two interconnected subsystems: the power

system, which makes the energy generated available in a grid-compliant form,

and the control system, which ensures – and monitors – the reliable and safe

operation under power.

3 | ASO/FSO

The quick-acting ASO line fuse

is designed for DC applications

of up to 1000 VDC and is capa-

ble of safely breaking nominal

currents of up to 30 A, making it perfectly suitable for

short-circuit protection in the individual lines of PV systems.

FSO, the matching touch-proof fuseholder, is designed for

DIN rail assembly and therefore perfectly suitable for use in

junction boxes.

7 | 10 | 11 | AVTS, AVTP, AVTT

The connection between the

solar generator and the trans-

former/inverter stage inside a

building is governed by the VDE

0185 lightning protection standard which specifies that

all power and data lines must be protected against power

surges. SCHURTER provides the suitable surge protection

components.

10 | ISR

Pulse transformers such as

ISR are used for reliably control-

ling power transistors and for

converting measured values,

galvanically isolated, from the power circuit to signals in the

control circuit, in order for it to be able to derive from the

power circuit the necessary parameters for controlling the

solar inverter.

10 | Touch Panel Unit

A solar inverter, like any other in-

verter, needs to be parametrized

using the appropriate system

parameters. The Touch panel is

an easy-to-use input medium highly suitable for this task.

Touch panels with a sealed membrane are impervious to

dirt and liquids, therefore easy to clean and hence perfectly

suitable for use in harsh environments.

11 | SHT 6.3x32

Circuits must be protected with

fuse-links against short circuit if

separate electronic modules are

used. E.g. The prallel switched

outputs of inverters are protected with fuses of the type

SHT 6.3 x 32 mm.

12 | FMAC ECO, FMAD, FMBC

NEO, FMBD NEO…

The DC voltage generated by PV

systems is converted to stand-

ardized AC line voltage using

frequency inverters or solar inverters which reassemble the

maximum solar energy supplied at the correct line fre-

quency (50 or 60 Hz) and amplitude (250 or 380 VAC). The

conversion process, however, causes interference which

makes it more difficult to comply with the line quality as

specified by the law. This is where SCHURTER individual

components or entire AC filters prove remedial. For off-

grid systems, sinusoidal filters are also suitable.

8 | FMER SOL

This DC filter reduces interfer-

ence caused by energy conver-

sion due to the solar panels’

long connecting lines. It reduces

interference to a minimum, thereby considerably increas-

ing installation life span and safety. The type FMER SOL

filters are suitable for voltages up to 1200 VDC at nominal

currents of between 25 A and 1500 A, i.e. for small off-grid

systems as well as for power plants of up to 500 kVA.

9 | 10 | 11 | FUL, FEC, FUA, FUP,

OGD, OGD-SMD…

Protection against short-circuits

and harmful residual currents

in electric appliances must be

ensured during maintenance as well. For such purposes,

SCHURTER offers various fuse mounting designs featuring

open and shock fuseholders with built-in touch protection

and various IP ratings.

10 | DLF, DFKF

Linear chokes such as DLF are

used for smoothing out output

voltage fluctuations in step-

up/down transformers, while

current-compensated chokes such as DFKF are used for

attenuating electromagnetic interference in auxiliary power

supplies.

SCHURTER’s qualification laboratories are equipped with the latest in meas-

urement and test gear. Various physical and chemical key parameters such as

force-displacement curves, load-shutdown behavior, high-voltage resistance,

long-term temperature behavior or the viscosity of liquids and their wetting

behavior on surfaces can be established here.

Before going into mass production, SCHURTER products are extensively

tested in climatic test cabinets, on durability test stands and at the EMC labo-

ratory. Strict permanent quality monitoring will continue in mass production.

Enabling Our Staff to achieve Excellence

At SCHURTER, success is not based on technical excellence alone. After all,

it is people who see to it here that people elsewhere receive a maximum of

benefits and safety. An optimal work environment, a good work climate and

the continuous support of our staff, therefore, are corporate goals that enjoy

top priority in SCHURTER’s corporate culture.
