Sacraments
Sacrament of Baptism
Parents requesting the baptism of their child should be
registered members of St. John’s or St. Vincent’s and
attend weekend Mass on a regular basis. Please con-
tact the Parish office for a census form if you have not
already registered at either Parish. If this is your first
Baptism, parents are asked to attend a baptism prep-
aration class. Classes are held one Sunday a month
at Noon (no classes August or December) in the St.
John’s Hospitality Center. Advance registration is re-
quired. Baptisms are celebrated one Sunday a month
at Noon at St. John’s; and the second Saturday of the
month at Noon at St. Vincent’s. Families registered at
St. John’s or St. Vincent’s are welcome to request any
of the available baptism dates. Scheduling of the
sacrament is dependent upon completion of baptis-
mal paperwork (including Godparent sponsor certifi-
cates), preparation class attendance (if needed),
and available space.
Godparents
Those to be Godparents (sponsors) must: be registered
members of a Catholic parish; be practicing Catholics
which, above all means going to Mass every Sunday;
be at least 16 years old; be Confirmed; and if mar-
ried, married in the Catholic Church. Persons who do
not fulfill one of the above, cannot be Godparents.
Once all requirements are fulfilled, they must obtain a
sponsor’s certificate from their own Parish. The spon-
sor’s certificate cannot be substituted with any sacra-
mental records like Baptism or Confirmation certifi-
cates. It should clearly state Sponsor’s Certificate.
Only one Godparent is required. If two are chosen,
they must be one man and one woman. In addition
to the one Godparent who fulfills all requirements, the
second person may be of other Christian denomina-
tion, such person will be a Christian Witness. Catholics
may not be Christian Witnesses. If the second person
is Catholic, but does not meet the requirements, they
may stand on the altar during the baptism, however,
only Godparents and Christian Witnesses are listed in
the Church sacramental registry.
Sacraments of First Eucharist & Confirmation
Two year preparation required. Please contact the
Religious Education Office to register.
Sacrament of Marriage
Preparation course required. Please contact the Par-
ish Office at least eight months in advance.
RCIA
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process
whereby adults become members of the Catholic
Church. For information, contact the Parish Office.

Family/Marriage Prayer Opportunity:
The Pilgrim Queen is a 8x10 Marian shrine that travels
between 10 homes, staying for three days in each
home. Each shrine group is comprised of 10 fami-
lies. There is a chance to join now. If you say yes,
the commitment would be for your family to host Mary
in your home for three days each month. On those
three days, you and your family take some time in
prayer in front of her. You can say the rosary (or part
of one if you have little kids) or simple prayers to her. It
is just a way to promote prayer to your family. If inter-
ested, email [email protected] or call 508-
322-2625.
