What is Rock Academy?

Now in its 5th year, La Motte Streets Rock Academy has be become one of the islands most

sought after youth music experiences.

Two courses are held in the summer holidays, one at Christmas and one at Easter. Course dates are

published in the preceding term. Rock Academy combines a great musical experience alongside a social

and supportive environment for young musicians.

Participants must be aged between 11-16yrs (inclusive) and must have a basic musical experience in at least one of

the five musical disciplines; bass guitar, guitar, vocals, keyboards and drums – we allocate five places to each

discipline.

Students will enjoy five days receiving shared music tuition sessions in the morning then forming bands in the afternoon -

rehearsing and compiling songs towards a concert.

The course days run 10.00am to 4.30pm and there is a morning, lunch and afternoon break with a fully equipped Diner available

for hot snacks, confectionary and drinks. Alternatively participants may also wish to bring a packed lunch.

The final day is a full 10am to 9.30pm day ending in a fantastic musical performance to invited guests.

“Young people are bound to have a fantastic time” says Senior Youth Worker, Ivor Richards. “the chance of getting

music lessons in your own instrument, plus the opportunity to be tutored on working together in a band is pretty

unique and there is always a real buzz about the final gig too. If your son/daughter is interested in music whether as a

soloist or as a member of a band, this is a chance to meet up with like-minded musicians, get into bands and get up

on stage”.

Rock Academy courses are tutored by young Jersey musicians, most of who are currently studying in English universities. We

place importance on lessons that are fun and also delivered by working musicians. Our tutors are chosen because the have the

musical knowledge and experience of just what you need to make it in the industry.

The popularity of Rock Academy means we are unable to promise all participants will get their first choice of instrument. We

therefore ask all applicants to make a 1st

, 2nd

and 3rd

choice. We make every effort to ensure young people get their first choice,

but in the eventuality they are allocated their 2nd

or 3rd

choice, we know they will have an equally amazing time learning

something new and challenging yet with superb tuition and a great deal of support.

Participants are not chosen on a first-come, first-served basis – rather that we need an even spread in the disciplines and across

experience. Successful applicants will be notified following the closing date. The full fee is refunded to unsuccessful applicants.

The full fee is requested at the time of application as a way of establishing a full commitment to the course and its other

members - regardless of which of your three chosen disciplines you are allocated.
