• In a time of freedom and expression Jazz music allowed musicians to improvise and express themselves without a rigid musical format.

Louis Armstrong

• Is probably the most famous and influential musician the United State has ever produced.

• Armstrong played with King Oliver's band at the beginning of the 1920s, by the end of the decade he had moved on to a highly successful career playing around the world with nearly every famous jazz musician.

• Armstrong, known as "Satchmo" or "Pops", is the foundation of 1920s jazz. He experimented with nearly every musical style, including Hawaiian, gospel, bluegrass, and popular music of the twenties.

George Gershwin• George Gershwin was an American

composer and pianist. Gershwin's compositions spanned both popular and classical genres, and his most popular melodies are widely known.

• Jazz has evolved since its inception and spans many forms from ragtime to free form.

• Jazz improvisation is a basis on many jam bands today.

• The music of the twenties defined the era and is a symbol of rebellion and good times still today.

• Dancing of this era has influenced groups such as the new boys… and crumping.

• Many artists today continue to pay homage to the late greats of the roaring twenties.
