rsadesign & development
Welcome to the Road Safety Analysis (RSA) product catalogue; a place to find inspiration, ideas and campaigns that will help you to be free to get on with the job of delivering road safety in your community.
If you thought that RSA was only a research body, you might be surprised by what you find in the following pages, but you can be assured that when RSA is developing a campaign we are looking to implement the principles that underpin the rest of the business. Where possible we will be looking to build on an evidential basis for the interventions that we develop, working with other road safety professionals, market testing products and evaluating outcomes. The materials developed are carefully selected to be appropriate to the audience or campaign purpose; we have been using a number of them successfully for years as part of a programme of local road safety work.
Many of the products that you will find here are marked as ‘Evaluation Included’ which means that they are campaigns that we are proactively working with others to evaluate or have previously conducted evaluation studies on.
RSA boasts a team of experienced professionals who have collectively been involved in a wide range of road safety work at a national, regional and local level for many years. Together, they have been involved in delivering numerous Prince Michael International Road Safety Award winning schemes and the multi award winning MAST Online platform; they are on hand to help you.
Design & Development
Key to the success of RSA in recent years has been the ability to design and develop cost effective campaigns from the bottom up. This means starting with an analysis of the road safety issue in hand and taking it right through a structured social marketing process to the creation of posters, leaflets, events, training resources, workbooks, websites, viral video and smartphone apps to get your message through to your target audience.

In Car SafetyIn car safety is supported by a range of age appropriate resources and publicity materials. Booster Boy and Girl, both 135cm tall, providing a fun and engaging reference point for children to test themselves against the legal minimum. The specially designed mini-comic and other materials reinforce the minimum height message for the family to take home. The impact of your child car seat checks can also be improved through our range of banners and ‘baby on board’ signs for parents. RSA has also worked with TRL to provide the Seat Selector smartphone app in support of this important area of road safety work.

Fact BoxIf you are under 1.35m tall
you will need a car seat. It’s the law!
Your bones are still developing even after you
have stopped getting taller. They need extra protection
in case of a car crash.
You can use your space computer (or a mobile phone!)
to see which seat you need on the ‘seat selector’ smartphone app.
You can also download a fun and free game from our website.

Scooter Safetywhite-outline
The all new Scooter Heroes campaign is a response to increasing numbers of children scooting to school through the primary age range. Developed with the help of children in the target age group the Scooter Heroes comic and workbook presents a positive, aspirational message about being the best you can be. Banners, badges and balloons will all attract attention to any scooter safety events you are running, and the positive messages can be further reinforced through the trading card game.

The flourish manual has been created with support from the healthcare profession and addresses a range of important issues such as eyesight, mobility, medication, alternative forms of transport and where to go for further advice.
Motorcycling Safety
Safer Rider received great acclaim after the success of the Crashproof Bike campaign, and has been at the heart of RSA’s initiative to tackle motorcycle safety. In addition to plugging into the overall campaign management, there are a number of the resources available that have been successfully used at biker events in recent years.
If you need help developing the right resources for your initiative then talk to us. After years of merchandising a wide range of road safety campaigns we have significant experience in sourcing and designing clothing and materials to draw on.

What would your thinking distance be before you braked?
If you had to brake quickly when driving at 30mph, even on a dry road with good tyres and brakes you would travel 14m after you’d hit the brake.
To nd out, get a friend to hold this card at the top, then place your nger and thumb either side of the checkered ag, not touching it. When your friend releases the card try to catch it between our nger and thumb without moving your hand.
Where your ngers land indicates your ‘thinking distance’ at that speed.

maps and in car assistants. They tell us where we are going, what lane we need to get in, but they don’t tell us of the obstacles ahead. And if we try to reprogramme them whilst driving it is both illegal and dangerous.Tips to avoid distraction:
1) Plan your journey in advance 2) Position the unit away from your line of vision 3) Never fully rely on your sat nav
Technology is great but changing channels on the stereo or fiddling with your iPod means diverting attention away from the road. Avoid the gadgets and instead focus on the road. If you want to switch channels, do it when you have pulled over in a safe place or ask your passenger to do it for you.

ART-KIP
The Have a Kip Campaign won a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award in 2010 for the innovative way in which it tackled the issues of driver fatigue. The resources that were developed for the campaign are available to be utilised as posters, billboards, banners and petrol pump advertising.
RSA have developed a number of drink drive related resources including posters and the new ‘Morning After Calculator’ smartphone app.
Addressing the issue of ‘failed to look properly’ related collisions as well as in car distraction from things like mobile phones and food, the ‘looking good’ resources are visually appealing to capture attention.
Throughout the year RSA are creating a wide range of road safety related publicity materials such as posters, leaflets and interactive items to facilitate engagement in addressing issues of poor driver behaviour.

what is Urban Limits?
Hundreds are returning to cycling
as a way of staying fit, improving their
lifestyles and reducing demands on the
environment; all of which is great news.
However, the number of cyclists who
are being injured on our roads has also
started to rise.
Urban Limits wants to support cyclists
in getting out on the bike, but in a
responsible way.
Urban Limits provides advice on where
you can find the best routes; thoughts on
kit and maintenance; advice on security,
road positioning and visibility. Join the
discussion online, download the app or
