Description of the Location:

We will be setting this specific scene in the Cafeteria in Southgate Secondary School. We will be

setting the scene here, when the group of teenagers reunite to collect their ideas on how they will

go about finding out whether Ms Grahams Is actually a ‘’killer’’. We will be using a variety of shots in

this scene; low angle shots will be used when the teenagers come up with an idea of how to find out

if Ms Graham’s is a killer. This will be done as the low angle shot will connote they are more superior

than Ms Graham, as there are more of them in comparison to her. We will also be incorporating an

establishing shot, this is to inform the teenage target audience (uses and gratification theory) that

this scene is set in a cafeteria, which will help in attracting a teenage target audience as they will

recognise that the film is aimed at them as cafeterias are conventional of films of the chick flick

genre.

Purpose: We will be using this specific setting as it is a convenient place for the group to be filmed

sitting, as they discuss how they will find out about Ms Graham. It also allows the pace of the

sequence to slow down because of the characters sitting down, this enables the teenage target

audience to fully absorb all the information (uses and gratification theory) that they will need in

order to know what the group will decide to do next. The slow pace will also create an enigma for

the teenage target audience as they will be left in suspense and left to wonder what the group will

decide to carry out.

List three points that make this location suitable for the purpose:

The teenage target audience can identify (uses and gratification theory) with the cafeteria,

as it is where teenagers are stereotypically found in chick-flick films.

We are able to see all the characters interact in a group rather than with just one person at a

time, this offer the teenage target audience the information (uses and gratification theory)

that they are all involved in finding out if Ms Graham is a killer.

It is a place where the teenage target audience are able to be informed (uses and

gratification theory) on what the groups plan is, as they are at a distance from teachers

hearing.

List two points that might make this location unsuitable for your purpose:

There may be other pupils in the cafeteria, who are not involved in the filming; this may

make the location unsuitable as they may make loud noise making it more difficult for the

characters voices to be projected. Also if there are other pupils in the shot, we must receive

their permission.

The cafeteria also has a limited time in which filming can take place, this is due to the

staff having to prepare the canteen for break and lunch times, when children from all

years will arrive to have their lunch. This will constrict the time we have to film, meaning

we should complete the filming quickly and efficiently.

If you use this location what will you have to be aware of at all times?

We must be aware, that there may be people who walk into the cafeteria and disturb

the filming; this will be due to them not know that the filming is going on.
