Recce shots Costumes: the costumes really added to the mise en scene, the hat in particular really sign posted the era and feel of classic noir. This trilby did add to the feel of noir, however we did really want to get a fedora, they are bigger and cast a bigger silhouette. The detectives suit is all black with a white shirt, it is smart and well fitting, this shows he cares for his appearance, the criminal who was trying to escape was is a shiny suit with the trilby. This may indicate he is seedy and sleazy. As far as lighting is concerned we had a few issues, we needed to light a full alley way- for more specific shots we had the security light- it was a wide beam and was useful for casting shadows. The long shot is light by Jamie’s mams car; these wide beams light the full alley and created a great effect for our film. To keep to the noir theme when we are running down the alley and are fully silhouetted. We had a few mini torches which in the end where ineffective within the scale of the alley. The security lights had to be powered by the two extension leads running into Jamie’s house, this, unexpectedly caused no issue. When using the car we needed to drive it round to the back of the alley, for this we needed Jamie’s dad to drive it and park it in the alley. When we where filming the match on action we used the security light- it was more accurate and really helped.

Costumes: the costumes really added to the mise en scene, the hat in particular really sign posted the era and feel of classic noir.

As far as the match on action with the cigar was concerned we still used the light of the car but also had the light of the match to light the detectives suit. The match on action with the shutting of the matchbox worked well, however we did forget to position the box the same in both shots. When we came to finding locations for the filming we encountered a few issues firstly we wanted to shoot in a derelict building to add character to the setting, but we agreed it was to dangerous and not worth it, in the end we used an alleyway, this in fact fitted better with the noir theme- for the interrogation scene we needed some place quiet- for this we used the TV studio.
